The 2020 Ride SuperPig Snowboard Review

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On August 15, 2019

Board: Ride Superpig

Size: Medium

Camber Option: Directional Hybrid Camber. A directional cam rocker.

Bindings: K2 Indy

Stance: 21.5 Wide 15 Negative 12 Goofy

Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10

My Weight: 195lbs

Resort: Arapahoe Basin

Conditions: Overcast skies, snow falling, warmer temps, chunder pow, perfect groomers, and some wind.

Flex: This board has a middle of the road directional all mountain flex. So there is a slightly softer nose that tapers back into being a stiffer tail. There’s a moderate amount of torsional flex which makes this board playful.

Stability: That wider platform coupled with the carbon array and camber profile really make for a stable ride. Yeah you do feel some chatter when you hit death chunder at full speed, but on a groomer or in soft pow it doesn’t have a lot of vibrations.

Ollies: HOLY SHIT! Years and years ago the Ride DH2 came out and had pop. This board feels like that. You can load it up and it will snap and not just a little amount I mean you’re boosting to the moon. Yeah it takes a little work, but it’s not going to hurt you. Sidehits, cat track gaps, natural hips, etc. etc. become launch ramps.

Pop On Jumps: Just haul in and pop off the lip and send it. This board boosts. Don’t hesitate hitting a jump of any size.

Butterability: That nose is amazing for locking into a butter. It just presses in and holds on so well. There’s a little fight to it, but not a lot. The tail takes more effort due to the flex pattern so be prepared to work for it.

Jibbing: Oh this board jibs. You have such a stable platform with the wider shape. The nose will press easier than the tail due to the rocker in it, but the tail holds a press well too. Getting sideways the camber profile will hug it.

Carving: Want to rip a hard carve? Yeah, go for it! Want to do a short mellow carve? Yeah you’re golden. This board drives through turns and you can push off the tail to really accentuate your carves. There’s enough torsional flex in this board to really snap a carve however you want.

Rider in Mind: All mountain freestyle guy that wants to downsize.

Personal Thoughts: If the MTN Pig is too aggressive and the Warpig is too soft, this board fits right between them and leaves the Twin Pig to do its own thing. This board is so much fun to ride and I didn’t want to get off it. If you get a chance to hop on one, do it. JUST DO IT!

Wondering your thoughts on Superpig or Yes Not So Basic (new version of Basic Decade) for a dedicated jump board? all i wanna do is boost on this deck!

Also 5’7, 160lbs, 10US ,~100 days a season- and except park most of my quiver is dedicated to bigger boards (treehunter 161, dupraz (5’5”/165) etc.)

    Thanks for your time avran

I’m 5’9″ 155lbs with a size 8.5/9 boot. For an all mountain ride do what would be your suggestion on small vs medium. I’ve ridden a 2017 warpig in 148(small) the past couple of seasons and enjoyed it, but the flat base, length, or combination thereof made it feel a little squirrelly at speed and sketchy on hardpack/icy days.

Thanks man! Keep killing. #1 reviews imo

Don’t know why you’re giving your height that’s the least important factor in finding a board but whatever. Superpig unless you need something real stiff then Mtn Pig.

was thinking to add height for reference to the size of boards they offer. The biggest they have is a 158, non-wide.My last boards have been 162w and 164w.

With your expertise, would you think the 158 would work, or too small? (always use your links to purchase btw!)

Hey there. I’m about the same weight as you and saw that you rode the 151. Did you feel that the 151 handled your size or that the 154 would’ve been better?

I’m 196lbs with a size 10 boot. Looking to mainly carve with the occasional box/rail and jump. I want something loose under my feet to transition from heel to toe quickly but still want the confidence to bomb a hill.

Thanks for the videos. It definitely helped me with purchasing a snowboard.

For what you’re looking for the 51 would be ideal. If you wanted to charge more and have a bit more stiffness underfoot that’s where bumping up to the 54 would come in.

Hi there! Relevant but maybe not since I’m referencing the lady version of the warpig (Psychocandy). She’s ridden a 136 Burton Lux pretty much her entire life and is petite around 96lb. I want to recommend her the 138 psychocandy, but hearing that the board is wide, do you think this would be a good fit for her? She wears a size 6 boot for reference. Also mainly bomb hills, with some light park. Truly appreciate the help!

    • Angrysnowboarder says: October 2, 2019 at 8:46 am

That’s a tough call. If she’s a strong competent rider it might work for her, but if she has any hesitation or lack of ability to throw her weight into a carve it’s probably going to be too wide for her.

I love the camrock in the burton custom but have heard so many good reviews of the warpig. I only hesitate cause of the flat of the warpig should i be concerned considering my older board . I bounce from one to the other in terms of which i would buy for a do it all mountain board. FYI keep up the good reviews like the honest opinion rather than the biased i sell these boards opinion

160 lbs here. Rode a 158W Nidecker The Smoke into pieces, over about 15 seasons (can’t afford more than a week or 2 each year..). Big camber but a lot of flex, with a huge nose for powder, and a 265mm waist width (like the 151 Superpig). I tried a 2018 Warpig for a few days, 151 or 154, liked it a lot but I was missing that camber a little.

So the Superpig is looking perfect, right ?
But 151 or 154 ? Nowadays I do more carving and less fooling around, but I can’t tell if the 154 will be too rigid or if the 151 will be squirrelly..

Thanks for all your answers, they already helped me a lot.

A bit of a weird comparison, but I’m looking at both the Ride super pig and the Lib Tech BRD and am stuck between them.

I would describe myself as someone who like to go fast and carve, hit the small jumps and features, duck through the trees, and tries to find the unridden powder whenever possible. Park riding is limited to jumps but I do love my airtime when I can find it!

Thoughts on the two boards suitability? (X-posted onto the BRD review as well)

The 54 will be better for the lower angle terrain Breck has as well as more nimble in the trees especially if you’re riding anything on Peak 10 or lower Peak 6. 58 will give you more optimal float if you’re riding imperial or charging a groomer full speed.

Hey Angry, thanks for all these reviews.
I think from all my research, its either the Warpig, or Superpig for me.
I’m after a quiver of one board, where I’d want the board to be best suited to ollies, side-hits, trees and just low-level messing about, and charging. A good all-rounder.
I think I prefer the camber-profile of the Superpig, but I’ve seen a few people suggest the Superpig is more suited to an advanced level rider, which im not, I’m more intermediate.
Which (or perhaps an alternative) would you suggest.

Hi, how does this board deal with unevan terrian or/and busy resort like saturday afternoon? I’m wondering if this would be good chocie for second board for such situation. For now, I’m using Rossignol Templar for my second board for playing around when there is more people cuz v.fast edge to edge, easy maneuverability, great for such conditions etc. It looks like downsize with SuperPig could be good replacment because Templar is to narrow (25cm) for my 11 boot size especially for soft snow. Just don’t want to lose this maneuverability so I’m curious what is your opinion on SuperPig during bad conditions and busy resort?

You were right! I had oportunity to test SuperPig 154cm and WarPig last saturday in such conditions. I’m really like wider platform to CARVE and rocker nose with aggresive sidecut for maneuverability. For me is 80% carving, 20% freestyle carving, no park. Any other similar short-wide boards worth for testing with all moutain but still freestyle character for soft snow, slash, busy resort, narrowed slopes?

Those boards are on two opposite ends of the spectrum. Sounds like you’re riding a small resort I’d get the Crux it’ll be more freestyle versatile for a tiny hill.

54 or 58. It’s kind of dealers choice here. 54 if you want it more playful and 58 if you want it to be a bit better at charging.

So here’s the thing the Mercury will be the most well balanced but probably not the best tool for Japan since it’s decent in powder but not powder specific. Superpig would be the most well balanced but be a bit lacking in the jumps and switch department due to the shaping which means the Warpig would be better. It’s almost like you’re needing 2 separate boards. Might be worth hiring a pow board in Japan and then picking up the Mercury for at home.

    Hi,

Firstly thank you for all your reviews, I find yours to be an honest no BS review, unlike some others out there.

I really want to buy a superpig but I’m worried that it’ll be to wide and It’ll be a struggle to get on edge..

My boot size is 9.5, I’m 218lbs, 5’8. Would 154 work for me?

If not the superpig, could you recommend another board with similar characteristics? It does not have to volume shifted.

Shouldn’t have an issue with it. But if you’re looking for something else that’s not as wide but kind of all mountain versatile and directional check out the Wired Vantage, Niche Maelstrom, maybe a Burton Deep Thinker.

    Great review thanks!
I’ve been riding the Burton Tough Cat as my stiff directional cambered plank in groomer/chunder/slush conditions and want something more damp with less chatter at the front. I’m mostly bombing freeride and doing some carving, but still want to mess around with my kids on the lower slopes. You’ve sold me on this already!

    Hi Avran,
I have tried Burton Custom X with Burton Cartel EST bindings and I liked the speed and how the board carved. Still, it did require quite some work and focus to get those pencil lines (I think partly due to the fact that I was in a lower weight range of the board).

I am looking for something a little more playful and started thinking about the Ride Pig family, especially the Superpig. Do you think it is the right choice or I should consider Warpig? I recon from your review that the Mountainpig is more aggressive than the Superpig, so I left it out for now.

    Best regards!

So can you please name a few similar boards, If there are any?

Love all your reviews! I’m on the fence about getting this board. After I test rode my friend’s Nug I’ve always wanted something volume shifted like it. I’m around 185lbs in the East Coast I’m mainly in groomers and ice I like just bombing down the mountain but I also love glades. My friends are into park so I’ll go in from time to time but I’m not great at it, I’ll hit small to medium jumps and side hits but tend to stay away from boxes. I currently ride the Jones Mountain Twin at 160 but I find it’s too long to maneuver around the glades, would the Superpig be a good alternative everyday board with how I ride? Or maybe the Warpig?

I bought this board based on this review, a couple of overheard bar comments and the fact you said I could go either way between this or the ravine. Compared to my full blown freeride board the pig is slow, but that’s exactly what I wanted for mellower days and shit visibility. This board is so much fun to get edge to edge, lay down in a euro, weave through the trees, butter until the cow gives up and ride those hidden powder spots! Can’t thank you enough for all the work and reviews you guys put out and will definitely be supporting on AngrySnowboarder.vip!

My current board is Never Summer Proto CT from 2012 rocker between foot camber under foot. I’m trying to up my skill on carving and blue/black run. Proto CT seem a bit loose on carving and doesn’t grab icy/hard packed snow very well. I haven’t get into park and tricks yet, but would consider doing it on coming seasons.

Which one I should get? Superpig 148? Or I should consider other board?

You are my go to for board reviews. I’m looking to volume shift down from a 160cm. I’m 5-10, 180, 10 boot. I love charging down the hill, but wanna get off pow searching in the trees a bit more next season with my buddies. I def spend most of my time ripping the fast runs, but also want something to handle the pow days. I say I’m advanced intermediate verging on taking it to the next level and want a board to help take me there. I been hitting eastern BC a lot the last few years and will continue, places like Revy, Big White, Red, Silverstar, SunPeaks, Apex… I don’t want something that is going to be too much of a beast to turn fast with, but I also want something I can rip fast on. Want something that isn’t going to rattle me in the chunder to much either. 151 or 154? Thoughts?

    Hi,

first of all thanks for your reviews. I ride most of the times on slopes and my traditional camber board works pretty well for that. I’m looking for a new board only because I have boot drag from time to time. I was looking at the Superpig, the Skunk Ape and the Stump Ape. The Skunk Ape would work only as 170 and I’m not sure if I want to go bigger. From your reviews I would assume that the Superpig would be the right board for me. However, the Superpig 158 is only 0.5cm wider than the Team. The Stump Ape 162 is 1.2cm wider but probably not as good for carving. Which one would you recommend?

    My weight: 225 lbs
    My height: 6’5
My boot size: 12.5 (boots: NITRO Anthem)
My board: NITRO Team 165W (27.2cm waist width)
My stance: 23.5 wide, left +12, right -9

Don’t know if it is because they are new but the ratchets at my NITRO Phantom bindings worked far better. An alternative was the Ride LTD but probably the same issue with the ratchets. One of you at angrysnowboarder recommended the Burton Clutch. I have also an eye on the Burton Malavita. Any thoughts on that or another alternative?

Basically just messing around on the entire mountain. But need a board that is able to take it relaxed and laid back on when with the family.

Its between this, mercury, mountain twin (the new 2021 which is supposed to be softer) or GNU Nuzoid. Im really eying the Gnu or the superpig the most as switch isnt the most important factor for me.

    Hey angry,
Bit late to this but I recently had the chance to try out the warpig (151). Im looking for an all-mnt board thats mainly good at powder/tree runs and also charging groomers. I ride at random times throughout the season so always have varying conditions. I loved the warpig in the trees/ powder but my only complaint was that it got pretty chattery at high speeds on steep terrain when the snow was less than ideal. I also rode a capita DOA the same week and found it much more enjoyable in those situations. I questioned the guy at the shop and he advised against going up to the 154 warpig to add stability due to the added width (I usually sit around 175lbs). The superpig seems like the next best alternative but I see reviews saying the superpig is “a lot of board” or “for the more advanced rider” which seems odd considering how easy and playful the warpig was compared to most other boards. While I don’t think a more aggressive board would really be a problem, I’m mainly worried that I’m going to loose everything I liked about the warpig (playfulness/turn initiation/float in powder) by going for the more aggressive superpig. But I’m also willing to for-go some of that if it means better control on steeper sketchier terrain. I guess my question is, what would I really be “giving up” (if anything) by going for the superpig. And for what I’m looking for, would it just be smarter to go up to the 154 warpig instead?

Most of those people saying that wanted a Warpig and didn’t realize the Superpig has a different camber profile. That makes a load of difference. For what you’re looking for a 51 Superpig makes total sense.

I’ve ridden standard all mountain boards my whole life. Burton customs for 20 years and jones mountain twins for the past 5. Umt then the mt. I much prefer the umt. Unless the snow is prefect I have to Really manipulate the mt to hold and aggressive edge. Also I’ve always ridden big boards like 164w. I’m 205lbs size 12.
I’m 45 and I honestly still rip, but am slowing down and a shorter board sounds fun. I don’t mess with big park jumps anymore because I don’t bounce like I used to. I treat the mountain like a skatepark. I also take my carving very seriously though. The thought of going to a tiny board that can still rip carves intrigues me. I see you recommended 154 to guys my size a lot. I think im going 158 , it will feel like a skateboard compared to a 164. Also switch is very big part of my Game. Is the sidecut centered on the sp? Doesn’t matter too much since I rode the custom so long with a set back sidecut. Prefer the twin sidecut though. Long winded Sorry! I want to try something completely different I wish snowboard reviews didn’t exist haha they make me overthink. What do you think? Unfortunately when I go to a shop they automatically think you can’t ride And treat you accordingly. I guarantee im better then most of them and it drives me nuts

I guess I’m looking for a shorter board to make throwing it around easier as my reflexes are getting slower but I have the need to keep ripping it up, most importantly to inspire my 15 y/o son. How come nobody talks about effective edge anymore? Can these volume shifted boards really provide enough effective edge to drive a hard carve?

Hey, I’ve been reading comments on sizing for a while and I know your probably tired of answering sizing questions. But… if I’m 5’11, 150lbs, and wear a size 10 boot, should I be getting a 151 or 154? This board would be my everyday board for everything (steep runs, trees, pow, park). What size do you think I should get?

Hey man of course I trying to decide on a new board. I live in Ohio where most of my riding happens so it’s usually kinda shitty man made snow but recently have started going out west once a year. I don’t really ride park but might hit some small jumps here and there when bored. I do like to try and carve hard and when in Colorado hit the glades and maybe some bumps. I have an old twin camber I ride that fucked me over in powder last year, so I’m looking for something that can hang on in harder shitty snow here and when the time calls if its powder when I’m out west can do decently. I’m 6’1” and around 205-210lbs size 10 boot. I’m kinda intrigued by volume shift stuff with the idea of getting over farther in a carve and a little more float in powder. I’m interested in the Superpig and Yes. the Y. Is one just way better than the other? Is there another board I should look at? I’m kinda leaning towards 154 unless one or the other I should size up? Sorry for the excessive writing and thanks for all your awesome reviews!

I would look at the Y over the Superpig only because it’ll have better edge hold for that shitty bread basket icy crap you get in Ohio.

Right on man, do you think I’m headed down the right track with the 54 for the y? I think yes says the upper limit is 170lbs so I was also considering 57 just incase I would overpower the 54. Last question, do you think a mini disk binding or standard would match up better?

Great site. Looking for a new board, maybe two to replace my old gear. I have a very old 2003 rossignol Sly+ 159W that I have used forever. It’s a pretty stiff board and fairly heavy by today’s standards. I weight190lbs 5’11, 10.5 shoe size (boot is 10-11 depending on brand). I live in Japan so try to hit powered when I can but spend a far amount of time in groomers with family these days and usually like to carve hard. Hit jumps and park when I go by but not super regularly (also my current board has zero “pop” so not great on the jumps).. Looking at Superpig or Mercury as daily and maybe picking up capita BSOD or K2 alchemist for days I am off by myself and can fly down the mountain. Any thought there?

Get the Superpig and the BSOD it’s the perfect 2 board combo and doens’t have as much overlap as the Mercury/BSOD or the Mercury/Alchemist.

Hi Angry! Thanks so much for your reviews, I’ve been spending a lot of time on them.

I’m female, 5’8″, 145-155lb, and currently ride a 142 Salomon Rumble Fish that I love in almost every way except for its performance in powder. I was in Vail Feb. 4-6 of this year with 3 consecutive powder days, waist deep in the last day, and my back leg and I were exhausted by the end.

Looking for a board that can handle 4″-4’+ of powder and can be taken through bowls, trees, and future Japan trips. I’d like some tail and something that’s not terrible on groomers or switch. Current shortlist is the Jones Mind Expander 150/154 (mens since I’m above the weight limit on the women’s version), Rossignol Sashimi, and Ride Psychocandy (146/150 — not sure if this board can hang in deeper powder, though).

WDYT? Open to other suggestions as well!

Out of that list I’d probably recommend the Sashimi first then go with the Psychocandy. Another one to look at would be the Rome Ravine male or female you decide.

Sorry Angry, you must be sick of these questions but here goes one more, I’m ordering once I read your answer!
    Me: 41, 195lbs, 6’4″, 13 boots.
My riding: All mountain charging, powder when I can, when not I’m a fast carving side hit junkie, but also love buttering around my kids, 180s of rollers, occasional park lap.
It’s boiled down to Warpig or Superpig, L or XL.
Seems like either Warpig in 158 or Superpig in 154 would both make sense?
    What would you take?

Sounds like you’re landing wrong and breaking boards and nothing is going to help that. Or you have a binding like the Burton Malavita and it’s pushing into the top sheet and snapping it.

Dude, what are your thoughts on the Telos Backslash 143 vs. Ride SuperPig 148? I’m about 150 lbs, 8.5 boots, looking for a volume-shifted, quiver-killing, pow-stash hunting, side-hit sending, tree-slashing, hard-charging, groomer-bombing board that loves to get airborne. Narrowed it down to these to based on yours and other reviews, but open to other recommendations, too.

Thanks for the great site! I’ve learned a ton from your comments and reviews. My question: I’m 5’10”, 224 lbs, athletic build, 11.5 boots. Advanced freerider based out of Colorado. 80% bomber/carver, 20% trees/powder/bowls. No freestyle or backcountry. What’s your recommendation for a superfast, straight-line bomber/charger and maybe a second all-mountain freeride board for days where I want to ride more casually?

I’m 47 and have been riding consistently since my first Red edgeless Burton Performer, metal skegand all. Im now old and fat 5’10 220 and coming off of a 157 NS Ripsaw and I mainly ride the north east with one or two trips out west a year.. Spending less time in park but like to ride the mountain aggressively. Question is Warpig or super and what size do you think.

Hey Angry, I dig your youtube videos!

    Looking for some advice:
An all mountain board that can maneuver trees well, keep an edge on non pow days, hit jumps in the park (don’t care about jibs), manage the chunder and ride switch. I have a Pillow Talk Saloman for deeper pow days. This new board would be a quiver to fill the rest of my needs.

I’m a pretty decent rider looking to push further but still have a fun playful board. Im 127lb, 5″4.

Between the Warpig, Superpig, and Protosynthesis what would you recommend? also open to any other suggestions.

Its more about finding a board with the right utility for mentioned above and is still playful/fun. The volume shift is nice because Im a 7.5 boot and women’s boards tend to be pretty narrow (not too many mens board are made in the 146 range that I ride).

6′ 185lbs 11 boot in Wisconsin. Currently riding a 151 Twinpig. I have not had an opportunity to ride the super but I want to add something similar to the twig while gaining some extra directional attitude when we take trips. Demo’ing the board isn’t a reality and I am thinking of sizing up to the 154 for that extra oomph but don’t want to shoot myself in the foot since the board is already going to be more aggressive.
As someone who has ridden both, are they different enough to get value out of them in the same size?
