Yes! There’s Life After Burton
Wednesday, January 28th, 2009
Just before the start of the season Burton announced they were cutting almost all of their truly seasoned pro’s. This left guys that had been under the Burton umbrella with a huge gap in their sponsors and posed them with the age old question of, “Is their life after Burton?” Their response was, YES WE CAN! Thus Yes Snowboards was created.
Yesterday I finally got a chance to check out Yes and talk with JMZ himself. The guy has a genuine love for snowboarding and the people he’s working with. He knows the situation they were put in better than anyone and is helping out with the art direction. Knowing that Nidecker is doing the boards means to at least myself that their is some serious quality behind them.
When I was looking at the decks I could see this quality and was impressed compared to some other brands I had seen. JMZ also introduced me to the founder of Nideckers son who was stoked I knew about their company and some of their building practices. We shot the shit about the rocker they’re doing and it turns out they tried it 10 years ago.
The boards are going to be sold in limited quantities with different graphics coming out every few months. Right now as they’re such a small operation there were only a few samples of the September graphic on hand. I did talk to them about getting on one to ride and we exchanged information, so we’ll see if a possible review will be coming out.
All in all I was stoked with them as a company and with their product. I wish them the best of luck.
