I chose a Burton Deepthinker. I can rip groomers , pipe , powder or just ride mellow.
perfect board for me with the kids!
I ride a Rossi xv mag as my daily driver. My 10 year old is always trying to out run me.
He’s trying to usurp dominance, you should probably run him over.
But, but arent libtech boards renowned for being dead as a plank after like 30-40 days already? How come you recommend it?
Also does capita do something that sort of matches the Rome Ravine? I’m a capita fan, sorry!
Think you have that confused with Never Summer there guy, Libtechs make it to at least 50. The closest thing in the Capita lineup would be the Kazu.
Oh nice. I thought libtech were in the same category. Actually I thought all us made boards were in that category.
Did the kazu not make the list because its an inferior board or because you guys can’t ride every board on the planet? (Also read you didn’t have the best 2017.) Here is hoping ’18 is better already.
The thing with U.S. made is there’s good and bad in every factory, some do it better than others. Lib’s no where near the best, but it’s definitely better than most. I still say Marhar is probably the best U.S. based manufacturer. Utopia up in Canada is probably the best for North American.
Pretty much just didn’t get to ride it yet. Looking at it on paper there’s a general idea of how it rides and talking with TJ over at Board Archive I’d tend to agree with what he has to say about it.
Yo dear sirs!
How does the jones explorer hold up against the #1 pick here? The jones seems way cheaper, is there more good tech stuffed into the rome board or?
It’s just an entirely different beast. The Explorer is more of a budget friendly all mountain board.
I noticed that the number 2 pick, the libtech dagmar has TNT base (extruded). Which I notice alot of people seem like is the end of the world? Would you notice it as an middle of the road intermediate?
Or are sintered bases an absolut must?
As long as you understand how to go to a tune shop and get structure in your base you’ll be fine.
What would be your 2 top picks Avran (BA)? Or did you give your 2 cents while filling up the shitter?
Dysentary got me. Basically it they would be a combo of Mercury, Mountain Twin, and Typo.
So not even a directional board? Are the actual advantages of true directional not that significant compared to direction twins if you dont ride switch or go park alot? as Kevin mentioned rad dads are prob only filming their kids in the park and not doing anything else.
The belief that you need a directional board if you never ride switch is a farce.
Im a beginner-intermediate dad who is looking for one board daily driver to do all, and my park extent will be riding through it and to follow my kid.
I’ve been riding 4 years now, and my rental boards have been flat and camber. I was able to ride both down reds fine-ish and blacks I can get down but it takes a little bit longer.
Should I get a rocker board or setback hybridt camber / rocker – like the arbor iguchi rocker or should I grab the ravine? Im unsure when you get which board and for what circumstances
For what you’re describing get the Iguchi rocker.
Thanks, do you have affiliate links for EU by any chance? I might be blind and didn’t see it?
Negatory, been looking into it but all the programs suck ass.
Hi Angry Snowboarder(s). Thanks for what you do. Am 200 lbs, 9.5 US size feet and an old guy of 50, snowboarding for about 5 seasons.
What would be good twin/twinnish/or asymmetrical All Mountain board choices for days out with skiers mainly on groomers with decent edge hold on hardpack or ice without being too catchy? I ride switch near 50% of the time. This will be an addition to my first board – still loving my Rome Reverb Rocker 160 which I’ve used the last 3 seasons and been progressing with but if riding with ski friends is wobbly at speed and not great on hard pack or ice.
Thanks for any ideas.
You could check out boards like the Yes Typo or Standard, Jones Mountain Twin, perhaps a Libtech TRS (might be too stiff) or Hot Knife (once again might be too stiff), Gnu Head Space, Ride Wildlife or even a Berzerker (might be too stiff), Capita Mercury.
Hello mr. Angrysnowboarder
Searching for a board that does well on groomers – easy to carve and a catch-free ride on flats and catwalks, and needs to be a fast turner since i go in moguls and trees at times.
I was looking at never summer insta/gator, but you seem to have some quite good points regarding never summer. So what should i look for in your expert opinion?
Why would you get an Instigator when it’s more freestyle focused vs something that’s going to give you more power and finesse where it counts. I would look at something from the Arbor line like the Iguchi Pro Rocker, Coda Rocker, or even the Element. That center reverse camber will be catch free but the Griptech will still let you carve.
Looking alot like im going to buy the Lib tech dagmar this fall. But curious about the ravine aswell – how are they different if you are able to say with a few words? And wouldnt the dagmar be better for someone who is a intermediate, since the camber to flat on the ravine looks a bit gnarly?
Im plan on using the board as do it all snowboard with the smallest interest being park stuff.
Fuck the Brainstorm. Ravine will have more snap and be lighter weight and a bit more lively.
Oh and also, looking at the Slash brainstorm. But not sure how that compares.
Thanks guys for the reply. The Yes Standard appeals and I can pre-order a 2019 model at a discount. At 195-200 lbs I’m a little over the upper level of the recommended weight range for the 159cm (185lbs) . Should I let that bother me and get the even wider 162cm (190lbs) or not worry about it? Thanks again.
Don’t sweat it.
Looking at a Powder/freeride board to compliment my Mod Rocker. Trying to decide between the Guch Rocker, Coda Rocker, Capita Kazu and the Capita Mercury. Looking for a similar feel to the Mod Rocker in a more Freeride profile.
Am I on the right track?
I ride in the Canadian Rockies, 41. 6’1”, 220lbs, size 10
Been riding 22 years.
Any other suggestions I’m missing?
Eh there’s a bit of overlap with your Mod Rocker with the Coda Rocker and Mercury. I would say the Kazu might fit the bill of what you want and that Guch rocker would be more freeride oriented than the Coda or your Mod Rocker.
Hi Angrysnowboarder, I’m very interested in how the Rome Ravine compare to the Yes Optimistic. Can it hold an edge on hard pack like the Optimistic? I’m 145lbs and 8 size, need to choose between Optimistic 151 and Ravine 152. Living on Alps, it can get icy.
Thank you for sharing your opinion!
If you keep the edges sharp you’ll be golden. There’s some different tech between the two companies as well as the Optimistic being volume shifted so that changes a lot of the dynamics.
Rome Ravine vs Lago Open Road? Worth switching?
I already have an Open Road and like a lot of things about it, and only a couple of things to only mildly dislike (or leave me wanting)… which are 1) It is ok/good, not great in pow and 2) I personally find carving on it meh. I prefer my Rome Blur on groomers (but the Lago in shallow angle pow compared to the Blur).
I like the idea of the Ravine because a) it is not stiff and can do ‘dad’ speeds while riding with others and b) Curious about trying the 3D/spoon nose.
So am looking to get more pow and carving performance than the Open Road. Any thoughts? Is it worth unloading the Open Road and getting the Ravine?
That’s honestly a tough call.
Came across this topic while searching for a new deck. Hope you don’t mind the revival if it works. As I am old school Rad Dad. Still Have the OG 2009 Burton Custom V Rocker (straight rocker ). Love everything about this deck. It’s held up I will say that. I am sure it’s well past it’s flex date but I still love the playful ride this thing gives. Holds pretty decent edge on the groomers in the medium to soft snow. I picked up a 17-18 Roam Blur to charge the corduroy and pow like I love little while back , but I just keep going back to the old Cuatom V Rocker. You just have to charge that Blur it feels like and you really can’t olay around on it. . It’s definitely fun when your flying down the mountain , but I am riding more with my daughters at little slower speeds and looking to bridge the gap
Trying to decide on a board to upgrade to to fall in between those. Very little park at 44yo. Was looking Arbor Coda /Iguchi Rocker , Yes Brainstorm, Lib Tech T Ras , Jones Mountain Twin
Thoughts
Get the Iguchi Camber.
