Here we are another week has gone by and it’s time for another Thursday Throwdown. If you were in CO this past weekend I hope you were able to get some of the amazing powder we got. Possibly the best storm of the whole season.
I have a question concerning powder specific boards. Currently, most
powder boards (with few notable exceptions like the Banana Hammock and
the Sickstick) rely on variations of the same concepts: bigger length,
directional shape, noticeable setback, long nose and taper. This means
they’re not that great out of powder, and are not meant to be ridden
switch or for performing any kind of tricks. Can the new rocker techs
change this ? Will we have equally efficient powder boards (no back
leg burn, good maneuverability), that have a true twin shape, are
shorter, can be ridden centered and be used for freestyle ? If so,
have you already tested/heard of notable candidates for next season ?
Just to clarify, I consider the Banana Hammock to be too powder
Rocker and reverse camber are where it’s at when it comes to powder riding. The ability for better float in pow is absolutely insane. Leg burn becomes a thing of the past when you’re riding any board with these properties.
When it comes to riding a twin tip with these properties there’s a bunch of them. It all depends on how powder specific you want to get. The K2 Gyrator is going to be the rockered twin pow slayer. That’s a fun board in terms of a rockered pow deck that you can ride centered. If you go with reverse camber I’ve spent a bunch of days riding my Never Summer Circuit R in pow and while it’s not as damp as I’d have liked. Previously to that I was riding a 59 NS Revolver R and that thing was a champ for being a twin wide park deck.
