Their Take: Yes Snowboards

Yes Snowboards is one of the most hyped brands for next season. A large part of this is due to three of the guys behind the brand and their untimely departure from Burton. JMZ gives us their take on a few things including live after Burton. Check it out.

The economy is in the shitter world wide, yet you guys are one of the most anticipated new brands for this upcoming season. What benefits do you see from having a more affordable price, a high profile team, and a huge anticipation factor? Also what adversities do you potentially see ahead this year?

I think the underlying message in YES. is that you can always find possibilities in a shit show and turn them into something positive. Snowboarding right now consists of way too many big companies that steer the sport in a particular direction not necessarily benefiting snowboarding. We just saw this is as an opportunity to take a small piece of it and then do what we want with it.

How much influence does Nidecker have on you guys and how important is it to have a manufacturer in your home country?

We love the fact that the factory and headquarters sits in Switzerland right next to epic mountains. Within a day you can create something at the lab, check it out, take it on the hill for and make it back before closing to give your 2 cents.

What geographical areas are showing the most interest in Yes and do you feel that offering seasonal graphic changes will effect certain areas more than others?

We are getting such good responses from everywhere and even though people have been cutting orders, they still have managed to create room for a new brand. Scandinavia, Canada and the Southern Hemisphere have been showing a lot of interest, that’s cool because we all have spent time in these places and have been inspired many times while visiting.

Are Romain, DCP, and JP defying the old rumor of once you’re done with Burton your career is over? Also is there a need to keep the older more established riders around to utilize their knowledge and skill sets?

YES. big time and it’s been a long overdue message to send out. There are so many ripping people that are far from even peaking at what they do but since you “gotta keep it new and fresh” all the time it’s easy to forget. YES. just wishes real would recognizes real more then in the past. Sometimes smart marketing takes a lot of fun out of things.

What really went down with Transworld and your decks at the Good Wood Test this year? Did that issue get resolved?

That whole deal got blown way out of proportion because of a language barrier and some things things that needed to fall into place within deadlines weren’t possible, we missed the boat on that one.
Next year, our wood is good though!

How receptive has the media been to you over all?

The response and help from all media around the world has blown our minds. And we are very thankful for all the help and kind words that people have been saying.
It makes it that much more easy for us to keep our minds focused on the what we are trying to do here, and seeing how stoked people are.

If people get one thing out of what YES is doing what would you hope that is?

Knowing that YES. is created by snowboarders for snowboarders and feel connected with the true message of our company. YES NOW BOARD.
