Welcome to Top 5’s where your host decides what their top 5 picks are. You might agree with them, you might disagree with them, but the fact of the matter is you’re watching them. In this episode Avran takes a look at what he thinks are the Top 5 Resort Ripper Volume Shifted Snowboards of 2021. This is by no means a definitive list, but this is what he’ll be recommending to people. As 2020 has been a shit-storm of a year this and every other subsequent Top 5 is using different metrics to pick the list.

Is the gremlin a replacement for the fun guy?
Kind of, but it’s softer.
I’m 5’9 140lbs sz 9 boots. Would you go 148 on the superpig and gremlin?
Yes.
Im 5″11 200lbs size 9 and a intermediate rider and bought the k2 party platter 152 20/21 as a resort ripper, for some pow, and general partybording but it feelt abit “big”. I am selling it now and i am looking to exchange it with the Gremlin. Is it a Good option för me? Or should i just downsize the k2 to a 147?
I like to jib and play abit and just chill down groomers but also just hit it and go all in on speed. Some jumping but no serious park riding.
So basically im looking for a volumshifted do it all board.
Oh god no. The Gremlin is stiffer and more aggressive than the Party Platter. I’d downsize to the 47 honestly.
Thanks for the reply. I will downsize the PP. But IF i may ask another question, what kind of board do you think would be a Good match as a 2 quiver One with the PP? I would like a bit more aggressive board to.
Something directional and more normal in shaping like a Ride Berzerker, Capita Black Snowboard of Death, maybe even a Rome Ravine Select or a Jones Flagship/Ultra Flagship.
Thanks man! Really appreciate it!
Back again. I have now sold the PP. But instead of buying a new one i got offerd a Ride algorythm or a gnu Gremlin for a really Good price. Buy the Algorythm as a One quiver right?
Sure.
Great video, picked up a 157 PP this season off your recommendation and now I am all in on volume shifted, I’m looking for something A bit more aggressive that can lay trenches and will be nimble/suited for glades/bowls (home mountain crested butte). Leaning towards the telos backslash 158 based on your two reviews but also love yes (I also rock a 164w PYL) so the optimistic 157 is in contention. Which would you recommend or should I be looking at something else all together?
I’m 6’5 230 with a size 12 boot if it matters
Since you want more aggressive I’d go Optimistic.
Appreciate the response! I’m looking for the deck to carve well and slash trees, given my size (240lbs, 6’5, 11.5 boot) would you recommend the 153 telos or the 157 opti (or even the 154) for the best maneuvering in the woods?
Thank you for the response
At that size I’d probably snag the 57 optimistic.
I’ve got a Gnu SPAM that I bought after your rave reviews on that board, and the Gremlin has been a board I’ve been curious about since it seems like a less tapered evolution of that board. I’m aware it’s probably been a couple years since you rode a SPAM, but do these boards ride pretty similar. If I split open my SPAM and wanted to replace it, would you recommend a Gremlin?
Shape wise they look the same, but overall ride the Gremlin is just WAY more aggressive.
I really want to get on a volume shifted board as my size dictates I ride really long boards. I’m 6’, 220lbs, size 9 boot. I’ve struggled on wide boards as some 162 or longer boards are wide. Is that gonna be the same issue with volume shifted? I’d love to ride a super pig or gremlin as a daily driver.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Personally I’d put you on the Superpig 51 at your specs and you would probably love it.
Hi Avran,
I am riding Capita Mercury and want to one of these volume shifted boards to supplement. I am torn between warpig and superpig. I assume warpig is more laid back/ forgiving and that is what i like. But… my previous experience with flat boards (Salomon Sanchez) wasn’t that good, I just hated how unstable it was when ripping groomers. As for superpig I do like that it would be better for carving, just just concerned if being more aggressive it does not loose fun/party factor, especially after apre sk :)i. Also, I don’t go to the park anymore. What in your opinion would supplement Mercury better?
Get the Superpig.
Thanks for quick response. Would you suggest 151 over 154? My weigh is 180. My Mercury is 159
Either honestly. More playful 51. Softer 54.
Gremlin or Dancehaul (or other rec) as a volume shifted quiver of 1? Early-Mid-Late season. Mostly free ride with 50/50 on small to medium boxes and rails. Up to medium jumps. Resort powder days whenever it’s available. Thanks in advance
Dancehaul.
Well I was ready to buy a dancehaul but sold out every where. Comparable boards?
There’s literally a list right here.
