The Cockerel Gang Snowboard Review

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On March 18, 2020

Board: Cockerel Gang

Size: 155

Camber Option: Flat Camber. It’s camber 2.0

Bindings: Rome Black Label

Stance: 21.5 Wide 15 Negative 12 Goofy

Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10

My Weight: 200lbs

Resort: Copper Mountain

Conditions: Bluebird skies, average temps, perfect corduroy, and zero wind.

Flex: The overall flex of this snowboard is a middle of the road park flex. You have softer tips then about half way between the contact point and the insert pack it stiffens up a little through the middle. The torsional flex is there and you notice it but it’s not overly abundant.

Stability: This board is very lively, you feel everything with it. Chatter is just going to be something you have to deal with on this deck. In rutted out terrain the board fights you to bend with the contours but it never causes wash out.

Ollies: This board has a ton of snap. The camber profile and the internals of this board create an optimal sweet spot in the nose and tail that when engaged pop immensely. You do have to load it up and it lets you know that it won’t be laid back, but when you do it snaps.

Pop On Jumps: This board is at home on jumps, it does everything you want and more. If you like jumping this board does it.

Butterability: Speed is your friend with buttering. Get your weight out over the nose or tail and man handle it cause this board has some rebound and fight in it.

Jibbing: This board is best suited for medium to high speed jibbing. There’s a tiny sweet spot in the nose and tail that you have to get your weight out over to get it to lock in. Being a bit more calculated and understanding this you can get optimal presses out of it. When sideways the camber profile and flex between the bindings hugs the rail.

Carving: This board is quick edge to edge and rather nimble. When on edge you can over power this board if you’re overly aggressive, that happened to me more than a handful of times on deep heelside carves. That being said you can rip a hard carve with this board but it will have limitations and you’ll notice that you can’t fully lay it over.

Rider in Mind: Park rider that likes snap.

Personal Thoughts: This is a Nitro Cheap Thrills. You’ll see that in the camber, sidecut, and shape. As I’ve already said in other Cockerel reviews these decks are just ripped off Nitro’s with a higher price tag, which is astounding since they didn’t design them. That being said this board wasn’t bad and probably the best of the three that I rode.

Comparable Boards: Rome Buckshot, Capita Outsiders, Yes Jackpot.
