Right now if you’re privy to the website Buoloco then you know that Eduardo Segovia the man on one side of the iChat interviews has been running a series about Corruption In The Media. It’s a topic that many people have many thoughts on and one that he chose to hone in on after a conversation where I talked about my post Buying Into The Buyers Guide. When it comes to the snowboard world there’s truly not a lot of controversy one can stir up within its small confined world, but every now and then it’s great to shake our little hornets nest and see the reaction.
Interview 1 Evan Rose from Burton. Love ’em or hate ’em Burton has been in the game since it started and they have their own view of the media.

Interview two is with former pro snowboarder Dale Rehberg. If you do not know who this man is in snowboarding I suggest you educate yourself. Currently he’s the brand manager for NXTZ.

The third interview which originally was supposed to be the first is from me. Classic quotes and profanity from myself abound. Also I swear I’m not a stroke victim even though I talk out of the side of my mouth.

The fourth interview comes from the side of the media itself. Chris “E Tree” Englesman former pro and current publisher of snowboarder mag just beats around the bush avoiding the question all together.

Expect a follow up to part one when the next few interviews have been posted. But for now what are your thoughts on the whole editorial corruption we face?

I think I won’t be renewing my magazine subscriptions to quite a few mags.
I agree with the assertion ‘relationship driven’
this is what happens in all consumer magazines. no suprise. its the only way magazines can get ad money these days, no saying its right, but without it, they wont make enough money to publish
[…] content like trip reports. If you missed part one of these chronicles you can catch up on them here. But for now here’s 4 more chapters for you to […]
Interesting even if it seems obvious. Most snowboard reviews bang on about the positives as though they’re afraid of being offensive. Maybe we’re expecting too much from a sport where branding and placement is so important, these writers are kept alive by the wrong people.
If the market for snowboard magazines was bigger maybe that would shift the balance, maybe not!
Pretty obvious but usually unspoken. When have you ever seen a bad review in a magazine?
