I’ll preface this by saying Videograss last season was and is by far one of my favorite shred flicks. Something about the way it was filmed and put together that just seemed to capture what snowboarding truly is. Perhaps it was the riders maybe it was just the locations used mixed with the styles of the riders, who knows? But in my opinion it was the quintessential flick for the current generation of riders that have started coming up in snowboarding. So what does Bon Voyage their sophomore shred flick have to offer?
While last years I believe was a super phenominal video in and of itself this one seemed to fall a tad bit short. Perhaps it was that certain riders were missing and others ones have filled their void? Or it just could have been that it was a bad year for injuries and some guys didn’t have parts while others had shorter length ones? I can’t quite place why it doesn’t live up to it. Does that make it a bad movie? Fuck no this thing has sick riding in it still.
So the soundtrack flowed really well with the movie and matched pretty well with most everyones parts of course there is always that one exception. One thing to note was if someone didn’t have enough footage for their part they had a riding buddy. It works with this type of crew to do that and gives riders certain exposure for sure.
So the real stand outs were definitely Mikey Leblancs ender and reminds us why he has knees of steel. Watch it and you’ll see. Ben Bilocq is one of my favorite people to watch in this crew and just makes things flow so well, kids going to be a power house in the next few years at the rate he’s going. Bennee’s part is stellar as usual but the song choice not so much, this is one of those exceptions. For jib mastery of course Jed Anderson delivers and destroys it as well as Gus Engle.
For the comeback pros that would have to go to Jon Kooley, Jordan Mendenhall, and Nima Jalali. Good to see a full part from Jordan he has solid style, Nima looked a bit out of place. I guess the jib revolution has passed him by, it was also weird seeing him riding decks from past seasons and nothing current.
All in all it’s not a bad flick if you like more urban than pow. The bonus features are pretty solid and will keep you entertained but not as much as last years. If you have the choice between VideoGrass and BonVoyage I’d go Videograss for sure.
