Welcome back to episode 3 of The Angry Snowboarder podcast. It might be a little later than the last two but that’s more or less a result of it being prime snowboarding conditions in the Rockies.
In this episode you’ll find your hosts Kevin Hub and Avran LeFeber discussing scam snowboard sites. The return of Forum, Special Blend, and Four Square. The new Chamonix Collection, a brand that seemingly sprung up overnight with everything. The Black Board Experiment and Transworld’s Good Wood. Anna Gasser landing a triple and what this means for women’s snowboarding. Why The Fourth Phase seemed to be a rush job of a movie and what Brain Farm might have done.

So according to a staff answer given to a question on the House website, the Forum boards are a limited release from Burton… maybe the big B decided to get in there before Reeflection. Would explain the channel being on there,I guess.
Chamonix is the new in-house brand at the House. They used to have one called Sapient, I think they are just trying to freshen it up. I was just at the store and they are pushing it harder than any core brands in terms of square footage and store realistate.
Sapient wasn’t there in house brand it was a legit brand, then went pricepoint, then got sold out in closeout. But that makes total sense that it’s their in store brand. Still kind of want to ride some of the boards.
Just bought a chamonix set The borads called the Dolent i belive, in total it was 432 marked down from 700 for board, boots and bindings Whats your thoughts on this being my first snowboad?
Best boots the one that fits your foot and fits your needs, I wouldn’t buy a package that includes a boot just to save money. The bindings are cheap, boards are hit or miss.
Ever rode one? Just bought a package off the house website wondering if i got Got!
Hi guys,
I really really enjoyed the segment regarding ‘The Black Board Experiment and Transworld’s Good Wood’ and regarding reviews in general (honest assessment vs doubious advertisment).
Me and my friends (as many I would assume) try our outmost best to ‘read between the lines’ so to speak, to find out what would / would not work for out-of-shape middle aged amateur guys (did someone say Biesty Boys huh?, pun intended) like us – and speaking for myself and my friends I want to say we appreciate your efforts so much!
May I suggest some future Top 5’s?
+ Top 5 Park Dad Boards (i.e. for out-of-shape middle aged amateurs that still play)
+ Top 5 Best Built Boards (nothing but Construction)
+ Top 5 Base Graphics while performing a Grasser Air
Keep up the good work!
the channel mounting system was not brought to snowboarding by forum. i innovated it in 94 with rev snowboards out of vancouver canada. we had jeremy jones, jp walker and jf pelchat (NOW bindings) as riders. it was adopted by forum after jeremy jones joined. for more info: https://www.facebook.com/groups/9006577522/permalink/10156131129387523/
No shit, listen to what was being said. Burton bought Forum to get the patent on it. Everyone that’s worth a damn knows Rev invented it and it was awful, the Forum one was awful, the Capita one was awful, the Blax/Head one was awful, Burton first gen was better but not by much. Don’t need to join some group of people reminiscing about the past like it was better.
https://patents.google.com/patent/US6089581A/en. if burton owns the patent, then show me their patent, love to see it?? also apart from burton having one instead of two channels for each binding, what difference is there too the original design. yes it may be stronger and more reliable, time allows for this with revisions, but the essential design hasn’t changed. it still attaches the binding to the board, allows for easy and infinite adjustment and works with base and baseless bindings. lastly where did i infer the past was better, seems like thats your problem.
I feel the only reason you’re having any argument in this is because you suffer from the washed up high school quarterback who wants to be remembered syndrome. Forum was great at marketing that was their initial revolution. Anyone remember those first few years of boards where you would flex them and the die cuts would fall out? That was always a sight to see in the shop. Burton snagged them to get some technology whether it’s a patent, license, etc. etc. it was to utilize something, make it better, rebrand it, then utilize it as a proprietary system. It’s all marketing and sales bud. If you can’t realize that then it’s your problem. Seems you’re a bit butt hurt no one gives a shit about you. Also you’re the one that decided to link to the history of snowboarding page. That pretty much proves my point.
so are you saying forum was revolutionary in copying an awful innovation and then reproducing this awfully??
Nice Episode!
About Anna’s triple.. To me it fares super damn well when compared to Torstein’s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJSzjCJ21CQ or Billy Morgan’s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAfSClKOUBI 😀 Big props!
About the shitshow that was The Fourth Phase… have you seen the “Just the Tricks” edit? (free online at: https://www.redbull.com/int-en/tv/video/AP-1P4K44U4D2111/just-the-tricks?playlist=AP-1KERTKXH92111:extras ). No-filler-all-killer 18 mins set to an epic, if very suggestive, NOFX soundtrack.
Now watching it again with the soundtrack and in light of the Brain Farm gossip it did make me think whether that soundtrack was chosen on purpose..if so that was some serious Degenerati shit..
So what’s your beef with TheGoodRide/Beisty?
They seem to have put in a lot of work on their site and are quite helpful.
Guy doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground. He can spit out the exact marketing spiel that the company gives you but can’t say anything about the actual product. No shop background, no tech background in gear, no concept of knowing anything about the stuff he talks about. He’s a fucking poser.
Hahaha pretty harsh.
In a world where everyone is doing research online and buying online at least he’s a partial buffer between the utter horseshit being spewed by the brand marketing and the end customer.
I do like your review method much better tho
No he’s not, he’s fucking incompetent. The amount of people he’s given bad advice is astronomical. I’ve had to personally devote countless hours to correct the bullshit he spews because the guy is an inept fucking tool.
Hey Angry Snowboarder,
Don’t worry, im not going to sue you. Even hate speech is protected speech.
Thanks for the coverage, we sold huge numbers when this came out.
I bet you think it’s a huge number.
Its all relative bro. I estimate you were responsible for about 2000 orders in December, or about $100K in sales. I would have sponsored your show if you weren’t such an ass. But I guess that’s your edge, you are the “angry” snowboarder, and even I appreciate your unfiltered and candid reviews of products. Point is, all press is good press. Have a good weekend!
No.
