The 2022 Salomon Dancehaul Snowboard Review

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On September 20, 2021

Board: Salomon Dancehaul

Size: 152

Camber Option: Rock Out Camber. Flat between the feet, camber under foot, and rocker in the tips.

Bindings: Rome Black Label

Stance: 21.5 Wide 15 Negative 12 Goofy

Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10

My Weight: 200lbs

Resort: Copper Mountain

Conditions: Sunny mostly bluebird skies, a little wind, warmer temps, slushy fast snow, with slightly firm groomers in spots, and chunder or ice depending where you went.

Flex: This board comes in just slightly below a middle of the road all mountain freestyle flex. You have a lot of play in the tips then a stiffer section through the insert packs with a lot of torsional flex.

Stability: For being as soft as it is the middle section of the board through the inserts is surprisingly stable to a point. Really big ruts and chundery conditions will cause you to get kicked around a bit. There’s chatter in the tips at speed and it does resonate back underfoot.

Ollies: With the setback of this board you get more snap from the outside of the back foot than through the middle of the camber section. The pop is there and it’s very consistent and predictable. When loading it up there’s almost no fight from the board which gives it a very skate like engagement.

Pop On Jumps: This board can boost a jump with ease. It snaps off the lip and wants to get in the air without worry. If you like hitting jumps whether small, medium, or large just send it.

Butterability: That rocker section in the nose and tail outside the camber is great for pressing on. It takes very little effort for this board to lock into a butter and it holds with very minimal fight. The tail section goes into wheelies with ease and you’ll notice the flex point right outside the rear insert pack.

Jibbing: This board locks into presses and while it can clap down once you find the sweet spot and lock it in you’re golden. There’s a little rebound from the camber section so expect that but also note that it does give you pop out of the feature. When going sideways it can feel weird due to the setback of the board as you will be off center so be aware you will be putting a tad more weight towards the back foot. The fex of the board does cradle the feature and stay locked in without clapping out.

Carving: This board rolls from edge to edge with ease and just snakes through a series of tight carves. You can drive this thing aggressively and get some power out of the tail, this is due in part to that flex point outside the rear binding it just gives you the drive to do what you need to do. When railing a carve you notice how easy it is to set it over and just feel it lock in. Overall this board can handle any carve variation.

Rider in Mind: All mountain freestyle party boarder.

Personal Thoughts: This is one of those quintessential party boards that does it all. Sure the shape would say that it’s more suited to something else but it gets the job done on all front. It’s freestyle, its mellow freeride, it’s tapered, it carves, you can ride pow with it. The snap is solid and easy to engage which makes it playful yet poppy.

Comparable Boards: Rome Stale Crewzer, Kemper SR, Telos Mike Ranquet

Binding Recommendations: Rome Vice, Salomon Hologram, Flux DS

Thanks for the review. Looking for a pow board that does well in steeps and mellower trees (live in Utah) that’s also great to charge through tracked powder once the party is over, and can also carve on piste decently.
Lib Tech Orca, Rome Stale Fish, K2 Excavator, Dancehaul or something else and why?

    Thanks

The only board on that list you should look at is the Excavator.

Evo has a pro model of the Dancehaul in the works which I confirmed would be 20% stiffer than the regular Dancehaul. How do you think this extra stiffness would improve or worsen the regular Dancehaul?

It’s going to make it more stable and the snap is going to be more powerful.

Dancehaul or Burton Custom for an east coast, non-park, groomer rider?

Dancehaul flex compared to party platter?

Love the reviews, but man, why did you change the font of your website?

    • Angrysnowboarder says: October 4, 2021 at 2:10 pm

Didn’t change it, WordPress lost the rights to that font and reverted it to something else. Party Platter is more consistent of a flex as it’s a twin the Dancehaul is a little more directional.

Having hard time deciding between a 148 warpig or 147 (maybe 152) dancehaul. Looking for do it all party board. What are thoughts on board and size? I’m 5’8, 155lbs and have a 9.5 boot. Any help is appreciated.

You don’t want the 52 Dancehaul, get the 47.

Thank you for the review. I am 5’10, 154 lbs (70kg) and have a 10.5 boot (28.2 mondopoint) and I am thinking about getting 52 Dancehaul.

I would like to use this board for all mountain/freeride and pow purpose. I like charging and carving and jumping from natural features, but I also ride switch. At the moment I have NS Proto 2 wide version (155X with 260mm waist), I would like to replace it with something that doesn’t suck in pow and has camber. My main problem is the boot size and I hate booting out when carving, sometimes it happens even with my current board, that is why I am thinking about 52 and not 47, although I understand from weight perspective 47 would be much better.

Would it be bad for me? What would be better in this case?

You probably want a different board for what you’re describing.

Any suggestions? I have been thinking about Gnu Gremlin 152 and or maybe even Korua TF 54.

Thanks for always being honest. Looking to give the whole volume shifted thing a try. Wanting something that I can have fun on in trees can hold its own in pow but can still be a daily resort driver for an intermediate/advanced Colorado resort rider. I already have a park board so wont be taking it there. Looking at the Niche Pyre, Dancehaul, and Dancehaul pro. Leaning toward the Pro or Pyre as they are bit stiffer. Any preference?

Love your reviews, they’ve really helped narrow everything down. I’m pretty into getting this board but debating sizes. I’m 175 with a 10 boot. I’m right on the cusp of the 47 or 52, but feel like I’d lose some party board feel with the 52. Thoughts?

More party boarding, go 47. More charging and stability go 52.

Awesome reviews, I’m currently riding a neversummer west. Looking for something more powder focused do everything board around the $500 and under category. I’m right at 200 lbs with a size 10.5 boot leaning towards the 157. What are your thoughts on this board or others within that price range?

      1. 57 will be too big for you. 2. Get a straight dedicated pow board you’d be better off looking at the Sick Stick from them or perhaps going for something more like a Jones Hovercraft, Nitro Slash or Mountain, Rome Stale Fish, Ride Superpig.

Great and super helpful review! 🙂

I want to get a volume shift/party board for this season and I’d love your opinion on what would work best.

I’ve been thinking about the Salomon DH (152) or the Bataleon Party wave (151). I don’t do parks. I’m an intermediate/advanced rider, mostly on the side of pistes trying to find some pow and small jumps, cruising and carving. I’m 170lbs, boots 9.5, 5.9ft.

    What do you reckon? thanks!

Solid review, thanks. Right now I’m trying to move from just riding park to more all mountain freestyle, tree runs, and riding bigger jump lines. Would the dancehaul be my go to? I was thinking of the warpig or super pig but the dancehaul just seems to have much better reviews and comments about it. Also, should I go for 147 or 152 if i were to? I’m 6’3 and 135 lbs size 11 boot about to size up to 11.5 (super skinny and still growing for now)

I’m torn between the Dancehaul and a Ride Superpig. I like Glades, trees and bombing groomers mainly. No interest in the park, but love a good side hit and jumping rollers. 6’3 180lbs size 10.5 boot. Do you lean strongly towards either for me?

Looking for a short fat board i can butter around the mountain, jump off everything, surf slush and still rail a carve at decent speeds. Want party board for freestyle progression that rips around the resort. 185 pounds advanced.

Stuck between dancehaul 152, warpig 154 unless you have another opinion?

    Thanks for all the reviews

Hi, would love to get your advice –
Dancehaul 52 vs Hybrid 57 – I’m 6’1, 165 lbs, shoe size US 11. Not going to own more than a single board, looking for something that will be able to handle all (or at least most) conditions (pow, ice, etc) well when riding around the resort & a little off-piste, mostly between the runs. Not interested in the park, maybe very few small jumps.

Which would you recommend? Thanks 🙂
