Board: Capita Mega Merc
Size: 157
Camber Option: Resort V2. Camber to the end of the inserts, then reverse camber from there out to the tips. It’s camrocker.
Bindings: Rome Black Label
Stance: 21.5 Wide 15 Negative 12 Goofy
Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10
My Weight: 200lbs
Resort: Copper Mountain
Conditions: Mostly bluebird skies with the occasional cloud, moderate winds at times, warmer temps, a light dusting of fresh snow on top of creamy corduroy, ice, chunder, and frozen death cookies in spots.
Flex: The overall flex of this board is just past a middle of the road all mountain flex. You do have softer tips that are accentuated due to the rocker zone then stiffen up just outside the insert packs through the middle. The torsional flex is abundant but there’s still some rigidity to it.
Stability: This board has a lot of kinetic energy in it and feels real reactive. This means it’s very lively and you will notice that you do get chatter in this board that somewhat subsides underfoot but changes how the board reacts. In real choppy terrain it pushes through most everything but you do want to keep those knees bent.
Ollies: As mentioned this board is reactive so when you load it up it instantly rebounds right back to its natural shape. This gives you a real snappy pop and helps you boost off sidehits, rollers, and cat track gaps or over slow signs. The camber profile overall is easy to engage and takes little effort. What’s nice is that when the camber section is loaded up it uses that reverse camber section in the tips like a spring board.
Pop On Jumps: This thing can send a jump with ease and little effort. You can boost off the lip on anything from small, medium, or large jumps and have it get you in the air. That reactive nature coupled with the load of the camber and the shape of the lip just all work together in conjunction to get you airborne.
Butterability: So with the softer tips and rocker you have this platform for buttering around that is relatively easy to engage. When you have your weight balanced out over the tips there’s a little fight from the camber/middle of the board but what that really equates to is more snap out of whatever you’re doing.
Jibbing: This board can handle some jibbing. The camber in the middle is nice for locking into a slide and while it slightly cradles the feature it retains the stiffness to not clap out. Doing a nose or tail press you do want to make sure you get your weight out towards the tips, even with the rocker section, it still requires you balance your weight out there to lock in. Once you do it holds the press with some fight which can cause you to slap down so be prepared for that. This board retains its snap out of the tips so you can get pop off the end of the feature.
Carving: This board has a smooth and nimble edge to edge transmission that retains power out of the tail. When you get this board on edge with the camber zone ending more underfoot you can ankle steer for subtle movements with ease. When railing a hard carve you engage outside the front foot but transition your weight to inside the rear foot to use the center of the boards flex with its camber to push off the tail and give you a lot of power to slingshot out of turns. Short quick turns or deep hard carves this board has you covered. On edge you feel secure and locked in which can be attributed to Capita’s Death Grip technology.
Rider in Mind: Hard charging all mountain freestyle rider.
Personal Thoughts: The best way to sum up this board is that it’s an amalgamation of three other boards from Capita. It’s the Super DOA in terms of technology, it feels like the 2021 Black Snowboard of Death on edge, and retains characteristics of the Mercury. This thing is a killer ride that is highly reactive but yet still predictable. It’s a board for the Rad Dad that’s moved on past the regular Mercury but doesn’t want to go to the BSOD fully and the Super DOA is just a little more than they want.
Comparable Boards: Libtech Ejack Knife, Jones Ultra Mountain Twin, Salomon Ultimate Ride
Binding Recommendations: Union Strata, Rome Katana, Burton Cartel

Hey angry not the first time I seeked your advice. I’m currently ridding rossignol 162 rossi revenant and not a bad board. I had a few left foot surgeries and I generally ride a little bigger for stability at higher speeds. Mostly groomers no park. Always looking for the ultimate board for ease of carving, stability and can bomb. Been checking out gnu riders choice c3 but they don’t make it in a 161.5 yet. How well would the capita meg fair for me? Any other suggestions. Thanks again
I don’t think it would be damp enough for you but the new Ultra Flagship from Jones might be something you should consider.
This board sounds similar to the Yes Basic Decade 158Cm I purchased a couple of seasons back. Would you consider this a better option and why? Also has that underbite disrupted sidecut, is that more effective for edge hold than this Capita?
Thanks
It’s in the same category as that deck. The big thing is this deck is more reactive when loaded up and has more power in it out of the load as well as on edge. The sidecuts grip different and that changes how you steer it.
Thank you. Will the new Jones Mercury bindings be a good fit among the ones listed in the review?
Might be a little overkill for it but definitely in the realm of possibilities.
Hey Angrysnowboarder. Could you advise if this board would be good fit to ride some offpiste (between trees) and random powder or it’s more for resort/park riding? Between this one and Ride Algorythm would algorithm be more preferable for some conditions/terrain type?
Thank you!
They’ll both work for what you’re describing.
Hi angry, Love your vids! I was looking at your review and saw that you tested the 157. I am 6′ tall with size 10.5 boots (would be 10 if it wasn’t for wide feet) and weigh 200 lbs. I’m wondering why you tested the 57 when the weight scale on Capita’s site lists it to go up to 190 lbs. while the 159 lists it to go up to 200 lbs.?
I’ve been riding over 30 years and have ridden many camber boards. However, I am coming off of an old Lib Tech Dark Series mid-wide 161. I love this board for its versatility but they don’t make it anymore. I own the Lib Tech Golden Orca 157, but found that it doesn’t float as well as my old board and is not as supportive on the landings. I bought the 161. G.O. but haven’t used it yet (thinking of selling). The Mega Merc 159 or 161, even with the camber profile seems to be a great option. I know I will loose the float of C2 but love the idea of a board with similar specs to my old board. Any thoughts?
Cause that’s what they fucking sent and people get too hell bent on these god damn weight ranges and forget to put personal preference on it. Sounds like you might like the Lib TRS honestly.
LOVE the reply!!! You Fucking rock!!!
Hey Angry, I am looking for a board that is fast and all mountain versatile for the coming season. Groomed and ungroomed terrain, trees but almost no park. I am able to handle black terrain with ease except big moguls. Currently have a Ride Warping. Do you think it is too much for my level? I am 5’9, 150 Lb, boot size 7.5, go with 153, 155 or even 157?
Thanks a lot!
It’s probably too much board for you.
Hello Angry, for this level do u think just capita Mercury might be good? I am considering buy a 2nd boards from mercury 2016(it’s old so I don’t know if I should try the new version or other products) Thank u so much!
You do you.
Hi,
I can’t decide which board to get, I’m looking for a board for the slopes, carve and jumps, for powder days I have the rossignol xv and sushi xv and pogo secret spot.
That do you think better to buy the GNU RC C3 or the Capita mega mercury, I can’t decide, Greetz
Either of those would be good choices. I find the RC C3 is better on edge in firmer snow plus it has that asym sidecut which just rails turns.
thankx,
Greetz from Germany
You said it can be “twitchy”, was that just in chunder or did it happen on flats too? I had last years Merc and “Twitchy” is a great word for that board. It always felt like it was trying to catch and edge while cruising on flats. I didn’t notice the BSOD doing this at all.
Slow speeds not paying attention.
Hey Avran,
I’m kinda torn between the Mega Merc, Mercury, and BSOD. I mostly ride at Mammoth about 30 days a season (trips planned to Idaho and CO) and stick to hauling ass going fast with not as much park anymore, but every once in a while have to scratch that itch. Which board do you think is better suited for that style of riding in the Sierra cement and often icy conditions? Or any other board recommendations as a quiver of one rad-dad ripper. Currently getting by with a Gnu Headspace but desperately need to upgrade before it disintegrates. Thanks in advance man! Your videos are by far the best and most informative in the world of snowboards.
Honestly it sounds like you would do best with a BSOD for hard charging and ripping that concrete snow but it will severely lack in the park if you’re trying to jib, jumps won’t be a problem. The Mega Merc to an extent covers you as an all arounder for everything but you’ll sacrific some speed control and wouldn’t be my first choice for a pow day.
Some serious food for thought. Thanks, Avran. I have been leaning towards the BSOD and this is kinda pushing me that way. Looking forward to your 21/22 review. Is this year’s regular Mercury that far behind the Mega? Unlike your buddy Kookhouse I’m not calling myself a “pro snowboarder” so I’m wondering if the Merc will be plenty or if the Mega really is worth it? Again, I appreciate it, good sir.
So last years BSOD is basically what became the Mega Merc and then this years BSOD got a huge overhaul making it less approachable as an all mountain freestyle board and more of the charger it’s known for. It’s really a more freeride focused deck that cuts through everything in its path. The regular Mercury to the Mega basically goes like this. Rad Dad who does it all get the Mercury you’ll be fine. Mega is for the guy that is either heavier, more demanding, or needs something that’s really snappy and reactive so that it boosts and has power. It’s the inbetween the BSOD and Mercury.
Literally everything I needed to know. Thanks!!!
160lbs, doing a bit of everything (park, pow) with emphasis on side hits and natural features, 153 or 155, or even 157?
Thanks for a great review!

Hey Angry … love all the info here. Sooo helpful. I’m 5’11” and 185 with an 11 boot. Last season I spent most of my time in Colorado and Utah with mixed conditions on a Korua Dart. I tend to board with skiers, charge the slopes, carve a lot, but also like trees and powder. Looking to expand my boarding improving jumps with a little switch now and then. I tend to look for steeps, bowls, diamond and double diamonds. I’ll keep my Dart for Pow days but am looking for an All Mountain Board that has energy, pop for jumps, but also can handle speed and carves well. Do you think the Mega Merc is a good fit? Or maybe the regular Mercury would be better? Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance man. You rock!!!!
Sounds like you want this over the regular Mercury. If you want a second option Jones Ultra Mountain Twin or Libtech Ejack Knife.
Hey Angry, love your reviews. This board looks siiiick. Would you recommend a 157 or 159 for someone who is 5’10 200 lbs? Thanks in advance!
59
Hey love your channel! I’m looking at the merc, mega merc, super doa and bataleon Goliath, or any others you suggest. I like to hit allies off everything cat tracks, bumps, dips, drops and Ride in the trees. Im looking for something to ride while I improve on hitting the large jumps and am not sure which board to get can you help me out? And should I just get two boards for that and the trees? I like a nice nimble board in the tight trees. Sorry for the long question thanks a ton
Just get a Mega Merc you’ll probably be fine.
Ok that’s what I was leaning towards. Would the capita asymulator or k2 manifest team change that opinion at all?
No.
Love your reviews. Appreciate the work you put in. If price is not an issue which bindings would you suggest would match best with the mega merc? I know you mentioned a a few in the video but idk if price was a factor in those choices.
Price is never a factor when I recommend something like that, it’s about how it stacks up with it.
I see you saying to not get too hung up on a size charts so wondering if you can help.
Been riding 154 DOA the last few seasons. Usually around 175lbs, 11US boots, 5’11”.
Let’s say UK lockdowns haven’t been kind to me and around 200lbs currently.
Would of normally just gone for a 157
In it for the side hits, but want a little float from the occasional pow day.
Covid has been kind to your belly. I’d go for the 57.
Great reviews thanks, Could you give me your opinion between the Mega Merc and the Asymulator. I am a Northern Michigan instructor that likes to have fun and play on the hill. No real powder to deal with and at 52 my park runs are timid. Looking for a fun resort board to play on as well as put down some carves.
Thanks for all your info.
Asymulator.
Hey Angry, love your reviews bro. I’m an intermediate rider, basically really trying to ride a lot this season and improve. I can pretty much ride all the slopes, but looking into getting some bigger carves, going faster, and start getting into some side hits and overall having some more fun around the mountain. Was looking at this board and the normal merc. Is there ever an instance where the regular merc would be a better fit than the mega merc? I can basically get either for the same price, so is it a no brainer to get the mega merc or would there be a benefit to sticking with the regular merc (for instance, maybe the mega can be too advanced for skill level?) Basically, would it be dumb to get the regular merc if I can get the mega for the same amount.
Thanks bro!
Sounds like you just need a Mercury.
Hi Angry, loooove your reviews!
I’ve been riding for about 23yrs and have been riding the same deck since 2005. A Ride No.4 (for specs: https://www.evo.com/outlet/snowboards/ride-no-4-snowboard-2007). Super stiff freeride board that was hard to conquer but when I did, loved every minute. Super fast. I’m getting a bit older these days so I don’t spend as much time in the park, mostly groomers, off trail, thick powder. I’m looking for something a bit more versatile, lighter, playful and a little more forgiving without loosing speed (I love bombing and going fast, or carving a hillside). I was originally looking at a Burton Custom until I started checking out your reviews for the Mega Merc and the K2 Manifest Team…I think I’m sold on the Rocker/Camber/Rocker shape. 90% sold on the Mega merc but concerned about having to stay sharp while riding, and working as hard on maneuvering as I do on my current board. Would you recommend something else instead? Is this board too much of a departure? Should I be transitioning to something else?
Thanks in advance and wish you a terrific winter!
You’re a Manifest Team type of guy.
Hello Angry,
thanks a lot for your videos!
I’m currently looking at the Mega Merc as a replacement for my unfortunately broken Mullair.
Mullair was super fun to ride, fast and aggressive. However, the board was a bit difficult for butters or to get the ollies higher. I also rode it a size too big and in wide.
Would the Mega Mercury with more snappiness be a good compromise?
I would also be interested in the BSOD 2021 for its carving capabilities…. But I can’t seem to find anything anywhere.
Any thoughts on this? Thanks again for all your work here!
Yeah
Hey man, love the reviews and all the work you put in to the videos and responding to questions. I’m an intermediate boarder that only rides East coast, so have to deal with a bunch of ice. I’m not interested in park or jumps, just straight bombing runs so I’m looking for some stability. I’m using a shitty old Never Summer cobra I got on fb, but it consistently slides out under the ice we get. I’ve been looking at the capita mercury, mega merc, or bsod, but I can’t really decide. I just want to go fast and be stable! Thanks!
You don’t want the Mega the BSOD is what you’re describing or even the Kazu if you keep with Capita. Otherwise Jones Aviator 2.0 or K2 Alchemist.
Hi Angry,
I need your advice about new board. I’m 39 YO, 178cm and 88Kg, advanced rider, riding 25 years, after surgery of knees I quit riding in park and pipe. Mostly 80% ride on slopes, with side hits and 20% freeride in Italy or home resorts in Slovakia. I can’t decide between Capita Mega Merc, Korua Otto or Salomon Super 8. Thank you for the answer, best regards from Slovakia.
I’d go with the Super 8.
Thank you for the super fast feed back. One more question, is there any difference between 21 and new 22 model? Because 21 model can have in 50% of price… Also what size do you recomend? Thanx and all the best in new year.
Sorry I forgot – my boots US 10,5. Will size 157 fits me?
This didn’t exist in 2021.
And which size you recommend?
Hey Angry
Really appreciate the hard work you put in these reviews.
Intermediate freestyle rider here. Looking for a snappy board that can carve, ride fast, side hits, trees and medium jumps and the mega just seems right. My question is, can you still do ground tricks with this stick, like butters, noserolls and all that shit? Last board was a burton name dropper that really excelled in ground tricks but lacked in every other aspect.. looking for something more agressive this time that still keeps some playfullness for those mellow runs with my girlfriend.
Thanks again for your hard work
Sounds like the Super DOA would be more your speed.
Hey Angry
Currently I am riding the Super DOA. Is the mega merc a better option for carving?
Too similar.
Hi Avran,
my quiver consists out of a Capita Asymulator 154, a K2 Alechmist 163 and a Slush Slasher 143 to pop some beers with the boys.
I weight 180lbs (6’4) and I prefer to ride aggressively.
I feel like I could use a daily driver between my short asymulator (mostly for park runs) and my long Alchemist which is straight up just for charging/deep-carving. Does the Capita Mega Merc 159 fill that spot? Felt in love with it since your review (would get it with a big discount of 40%)
Thanks, and I’m happy that you were able restore this side!
Get it.
Thanks!
I might consider selling my Asymulator, cause of the overlap and get a Rocker/Flat pure jibstick for the park instead.
A budget option would be the Capita Horroscope, but I dont know how well it would handle occasional groomer. Therefore a Rome Party Mod or an Arbor Westmark Rocker would come in my mind.
What do you think? Always open for suggestions! 🙂
Party Mod all day every day.
Great! Hope I can find one available.
Will you ever do a Top 5 Rocker boards?
They just feel so different.
Hi Angry,
Couldn’t figure out if it’s an all mountain freestyle or aggressive board.
You describe it as aggressive but it’s on your top 5 all mountain freestyle.
It’s an aggressive all mountain freestyle board.
Hey, as always, appreciate the no BS reviews.
I now have 5 days on a Asymulator 156 and while I like it, I don’t love it. As I embrace my rad dad fate and rarely enter the park at this point, the Asym 156 just doesn’t feel like it has enough effective edge to rip hard rail to rail turns. Does it get on rail, of course, but the asym on the heel is actually really disappointing. I also loved the pop on day 1, but as it breaks in I’m not getting the instant boost that makes me feel like I can ollie the slow signs. It’s also not ideal in pow, but then again that’s not what it’s made for.
At 180lbs, riding mostly NY and VT resorts, constantly searching for natural hits, destroying soft bases because of poor coverage in glades … is the Mega Merc the quiver of one for me?
It’s interesting that you suggested the EJack, maybe I should give C3 a chance. I rode nothing but Mervin boards ~20 years ago but then I bought the first Riders Choice with banana and swore them off for good because that board was a steaming pile of shit.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry, it was a TRS with banana that was a shit box, had a regular camber RC before that one.
Hey angry, I appreciate the review!
The mega merc seems good for me but the choices are kinda overwhelming. I’ve been riding a 2005-ish nitro T1 156, so yea, lots more options to consider these days. I’m hoping you can point me in the right direction.
I’m 35, 5’11” tall, 175lbs, and 9.5 boot.
I’m an east coaster (PA) and ride black diamonds, look for side hits, carve, and hit small to medium park features (50% park, probably?). When I ride with certain friends I play around with butters and riding switch to stay entertained on the greens and blues. I visit CO resorts every now and then, so something that doesn’t suck in pow, trees, and steeps would be nice.
Thanks in advance for any info you’re able to give on board selection.
It’s definitely one to consider, you may also like the Super DOA or even just the regular DOA or Mercury. I’d also look at the Jones Mountain Twin or even the Arbor Coda Camber.
I want something that performs as you describe this deck. I can grab a Rome National, Stale Crewzer, or Ravine (normal and select) on sale from local shop. Seems as the National is most comparable? This for charging on ice to low pow, and quick setup park turns.
If those are your only options that’s it.
I am an north east coast guy so Rome is everywhere here. For similar comparison to the Mega Merc leaning towards National or Crewzer due to lack of true pow days (Ravine Select). Thanks!
Im looking at this and comparing it to the Rome National. I want a charging all rounder that is fairly stable at speed, can lay a trench and pop some medium size jumps. I ride switch occasionally and sometime encounter harder snow in the Austrian Alps, my home area. If you had to take one, which would you go with?
Libtech Dynamo.
Thank you, I appreciate the tip and for trying to help me see outside the box, but I am not a big fan of Lib-tech and I don’t dig magne-traction. Not my thing. I am also not into tapered boards even though the taper on the Dynamo is negligible. I am going to try and choose between the Mega Mercury and the National. They seem petty similar and I fell pretty good about both, but just wondering if one of those really stood out as ride that was more fun than the other. Thanks again.
Well you’re the expert here I’m sure you’ll figure it out.
You’re the expert and have the experience of riding both the MM and the National, which was why I was seeking your opinion. After reading your reviews it was an opinion that seems respectable, but sarcasm seems to be the order of the day. Okay, I’ll flip a coin. Have an enjoyable 22/23 season!
Cheers for the review Avran,
Looking at getting the regular Mercury or this to slim down the quiver and cover most of my riding so it’ll be either one of them and a short wide tapered board like the party wave + in like a 154 for my Japan tree board.
Anyway, Wanting a size recommendation based on your experience with both boards, I love a good charge but I’m a rad dad that also wants versatility and be able to take it easy sometimes and mainly ride Aus/NZ/Japan.
So- 11.5US, 185lbs, 6’2”
I can only find the regular Merc in a 158w but the mega merc I’ve found in both the 58w and the 60w
What’re your thoughts?
Thanks mate
Sounds like you just need the regular Mercury and the 58w should work for you.
Hey Angry
I am seriously considering spending up on this board. I went from the board I learnt on Yes Basic to A Yes the Greats. At first the greats was a bit stiff for me but relatively quickly got used to it and now freakn love it. Thoughts on the upgrade to Mega Mercury from the Greats? Potentially too much board? I am 170 pounds and thinkn the 153 as I tend to prefer shorter boards. Ride in Australia so quite often on hard snow.
Sounds like it’ll be too much board for you.
whoops, ordered it anyway. sometimes ya just gotta send it!!!! You just make the board sound so rad I got all caught up
