The 2021 Rossignol Sashimi LG Snowboard Review

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On February 15, 2021

Board: Rossignol Sashimi LG

Size: 156

Camber Option: Amptek Elite. A camrocker with 60% camber under foot and 20% rocker in the tip and the tail.

Bindings: Rome Black Label

Stance: 21.5 Wide 15 Negative 12 Goofy

Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10

My Weight: 200lbs

Resort: Copper Mountain

Conditions: Sunny bluebird skies, cold temps, zero winds, light snow on top of corduroy, and anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of pow if you went hunting for it.

Flex: This is another Rossignol board with a reverse directional flex pattern. So once again stiffer nose that progressively softens up from under the front insert pack back through the tail. There’s a fair amount of torsional give to it which makes it playful where it counts. The overall flex comes in ever so slightly past middle of the road in terms of the freeride spectrum.

Stability: This board is stable and plows through chop, chunder, and family of fat skiers. You don’t have to worry about chatter at speeds as any flap you get in the nose is almost completely gone by the time it hits the front insert pack.

Ollies/Pop: The snap is there and when you load up that camber profile it engages the rocker zone to give you pop. Overall this board is meant to boost off side hits, rollers, powder pillows, moguls, and the like with ease. Is it the snappiest board in the category no, but it’s snappier than most which is an added bonus.

Butterability: You have to get way out on the nose to do any butter variation and as that’s the stiffest portion of the board it will fight you so be prepared to work for it. The tail is very minimal and has an abrupt kick to it which makes it do high speed wheelies more than anything.

Carving: This board rolls from edge to edge from outside the front foot but it truthfully engages right under foot and locks in. This is a board that drives carves like no other and lets you lay it over when you want or just be mellow if you’re not feeling it. On edge it stays locked in and cuts through everything in its path. Whether you’re doing a short quick carve or a long hard drawn out one it has you covered.

Rider in Mind: Resort pow chaser that wants something not as volume shifted as other boards.

Personal Thoughts: Last time I rode this board I wasn’t truly in love with it, just felt it was a snowboard and got the job done. Whether it’s had a tweak or two I wasn’t told but I feel the flex pattern is a bit better in this and more relative to how this board is described as working. It holds an edge well, it floats well, and it has pop when you need it. This is a good mid level volume shifted resort ripper.

Comparable Boards: Nidecker Mosquito, Rome Stale Fish, Ride Superpig

This is just in time before my 2-Sashimi LG arrives (albeit the 2020 model you already reviewed)! May I know why the video is set to private? Will it be publicly available soon?

I’ve watched so many of your videos. My wife is going to kill me she is tired if your angry voice.
New orca or the sashimi. I rose the sashimi in Snowbird on a couple monster pow days. I had the most fun with it on the groomers doing massive long carves which made me feel like I knew what I was doing.
Do you think this board is better than the orca HP?
Both times you reviewed this board you seemed super stoked on it.

Hey Angry – thanks for unbiased information, greatly appreciated. My son lives out in your area and I’ve ridden his XV Magtek. I love it for that stiffer nose as it seems help my old knees in chop, (or maybe it’s just the overall dampness?). That said it seems like overkill for my Midwest home hill. Would the Sashimi be a good compromise that might give me the stiffer nose for my old knees and better damping quality while being a better fit for smaller hills? By comparison my daily is an older Jones Explorer. All mtn, no park rider. Thanks again!

Definitely. I think you’d be happy with this for the Midwest and when you come visit.
