The 2021 Gnu Gremlin Snowboard Review

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On January 18, 2021

Board: Gnu Gremlin

Size: 155

Camber Option: C3. Camber 2.0.

Bindings: Rome Black Labels

Stance: 21.5 Wide 15 Negatie 12 Goofy

Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10

My Weight: 200lbs

Resort: Loveland Ski Area

Conditions: 10 plus inches of fresh snow on top of perfect corduroy. Zero wind, cooler temps, and average visibility.

Flex: This board has a every so slightly above middle of the road flex. It’s your standard directional flex with a softer nose, stiffer middle section and tail. There’s a decent amount of torsional flex.

Stability: This board is nice and stable. You can cut through crud and it doesn’t buck you around. At speed there’s a tiny amount of chatter in the nose.

Ollies/Pop: This board has some serious pop. From the camber profile to the flex and the shape of this board it just wants to launch off anything and boost. It’s easy to engage the camber profile and the rebound is exactly what you want in a board like this.

Butterability: The nose is the optimal place to press on. It’s essentially a giant scoop that doesn’t fight you and just holds a butter. The tail is better for doing wheelies at high speed.

Carving: This board is quick and nimble from edge to edge. You can feel it power into a turn and then lock in on edge while snapping out of a carve. Short tight quick carves or long hard drawn out ones this board does it. This thing is meant for ripping turns and how you flex the board in the camber profile makes this board easily maneuverable.

Rider in Mind: Freeride focused resort rider.

Personal Thoughts: Man this board did not let me down. You have power from the mid of the board back to the tail which is great for ripping a carve or doing a power slash in deep snow. The nose is playful which made pow butters an absolute dream.

Comparable Boards: Telos Backslash, Ride Superpig, Rossignol Sashimi

Hi Angry, what’s the biggest difference between the gremlin vs the orca? I’m guessing the gremlin is more playful?

    • Angrysnowboarder says: January 19, 2021 at 8:10 am

Opposite. Gremlin is more aggressive and has a different camber profile.

hi Angry, i wonder what is the difference between the gremlin and the Korua tranny finder?
I mostly carve on groomer and chase pow, and now can’t decide between the Dancehaul, gremlin, and the tranny finder.
    THank you!

Realistically the big things are going to be shape, camber profile/camber amount, and sidecut.

The gremlin and orca seem similar with some overlap. What type of rider would the gremlin suit vs the orca?

More power and camber dominance Gremlin.

Just how similar is the Ride Superpig? Everything I’ve read points me towards the Pig, but GNU being Made in USA is a major selling point for me.

It’s similar on edge and purpose but the Gremlin is stiffer, more damp, and has a bit more power out of the camber.

Gremlin honestly, more damp, and can hold a better edge in that sludge.

    Hi Angry,

Would you say that gremlin is a solid powder board? Or would an gremlin plus a powder board be a solid 2 board quiver?

  • Ian says: January 29, 2021 at 8:23 am

Hi Angry, I’m curious about the answer to the previous posters question. How competent is the gremlin in powder?

    • Angrysnowboarder says: January 30, 2021 at 12:26 pm

How competent are you in powder with a board that’s camber dominant? Competent? Then you’re fine. Been on rocker your whole life riding pow and don’t have a strong back leg, well you’re probably fucked.

How would you compare the gremlin to the Burton skeleton key? I ride mostly on the east coast and like to carve, hit the trees, and do pow when I can. Have rode the 153 orca and wanted something more turny/carvey. Is the gremlin significantly better for carving up groomers? And since I’m on the ice coast would you go gremlin over SK? Thx

Overall it’s a stiffer and damper ride. It also grips more aggressively from the front foot back.

First of all you’re awesome for taking the time to get back to everyone on here.
I’m in my mid 30s and am an advanced rider that finds myself chasing pow and euro forcing groomers when not cruising with the father in law on some slopes. Mainly been a Burton whore for most of my life and don’t really have any issues in medium snow to pow- riding a skeleton key 158 and a 150 bottom feeder, but am lacking in hard to ice coverage. After a weekend on the ice coast and not being able to cut into hard pack/ ice was debating picking up a gremlin. Tossed around the orca, but figured there is too much overlap with my quiver.
So go gremlin or any other Recs? I dig shorter boards.

    Ya Avran!
I am 6′ 0 190 lbs. with a size 10 boot. I am an avid rider in all conditions. Looking for an all mountain one board does it all… I am interested in a volume shifted board, and I currently have a Ride Superpig 148. I enjoyed riding the Superpig, but I didn’t love it, looking for an equivalent or better. I also like to ride switch at high speeds. Mostly riding at Snowbird & occasionally JacksonHole. Interested in your feedback… Did you like riding Gremlin vs the Superpig? Or do you recommend a different manufactures volume shifted board? Thank you !

    Appreciate it.

55 is going to be noticeably stiffer than the 52 and more assertive. You can ride it, but you’re going to be working for it.

Yooo im eyeing this board right now still cant figure out which size to go with. 152 or 155 for a 5’7 185lbs. I like to charge down, hit all side hits/ramps, go into trees and occasional pow (rare, westcoast BC)

Hey Avran! I’m 5’6”, 150lbs, and mainly do blacks and double blacks with moguls. Would the gremlin 148 be an ideal board for really quick turns between steep moguls? Any other boards you would recommend?

Skis? You don’t want a Gremlin won’t have the torsional flex you’re looking for the Yes The Y would probably be a better fit.
