The 2020 Rossignol Sushi Snowboard Review

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On August 15, 2019

Board: Rossignol Sushi

Size: 144

Camber Option: Amptek Elite. 30% rocker in the nose, camber through the middle to the tail with 10% rocker.

Bindings: K2 Indy

Stance: 21.5 wide 15 Negative 12 Goofy

Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10

My Weight: 195lbs.

Resort: Brighton

Conditions: Mix of clouds and sun, slightly warmer temps, a bunch of fresh snow, some groomers, and low wind.

Flex: This board is 100% directional and playful. You have a giant nose with a lot of flex, then it stiffens up under foot, and then there’s the tail which gets just a hair softer than the middle of the board. There’s a fair amount of torsional flex that lets you twist it.

Stability: There’s a lot of flex in the nose which means you’ll notice the tip flapping at high speeds the good thing is that the Lite Frame core doesn’t let that energy transfer back under foot and fatigue that front leg. Underfoot you have a ton of stability, that wider platform gives you a nice chassis to sit on and not get bucked around.

Ollies/Pop: There’s next to no tail on this board so all the pop comes from that back set of inserts. You can load up the camber to get it to pop, but realistically it’s all coming off that back foot to get it to boost. It’s easy to engage, but you have nothing to land on as there’s next to no tail.

Butterability: That nose is so soft and rocker dominate coupled with its width that you have the ultimate platform to lock into presses with. It just holds on and lets you push into the snow with it.

Carving: This board is like a little racer on groomed runs. You can load up the camber zone, push into what tail it has, and slingshot right out of the carve. It does a great job of carving for what it is. Long drawn out carves or tight quick setup turns.

Rider in Mind: Powder hound that wants a volume shifted board.

Personal Thoughts: For 2020 they introduced 2 new models of the Sushi. This one is the regular width 144 which will accommodate people with a smaller foot compared the original 145 which is now considered the 145w. It’s essentially the exact same board as the 145w but 1cm shorter. I will say that it does seem a bit softer than the one I rode last year, but not by much.

What would you take between this and Lib Tech short wide? Which is mor fun and more versatile?

Short Wide is more versatile that’s for sure.

I just ordered one. Thank you for helping my board buying decision making. I got to demo one in mixed conditions from groomers to powder stashes to scraped ice. I loved it in tight trees where it came alive and made easy fast slashy surfy turns. Perfect for my style. Thank you

looking at grabbing last years model: https://www.rei.com/product/158994/rossignol-xv-sushi-lf-snowboard-mens-20192020

I’m 6’0 and 200lbs. Would you recommend I go 144 or 145w? I have a credit at REI that’s why I am considering this. They unfortunately don’t have a 145w… Also are there any other short wide boards that you would recommend along side this?

    Appreciate it bud.

Unless you have a size 13 you’ll probably be fine on the 44. K2 Cool Bean, Telos Backslash, Libtech Orca, Ride Superpig.

Would the sushi and the gremlin be comparable in powder? Would a sushi be worth adding if you already owned a gremlin?

      No they ride entirely different.

I already own a gremlin. What I’m curious about is whether there would be too much overlap if I picked up a sushi for the big dump powder days?

You speak highly of the sushi. I bought the gremlin based on you ranking it #1 of your top 5 volume shifted resort rippers. I also saw that the gremlin received an “honourable mention” in the powder ripper top 5. I don’t want to pick up the sushi if there would be too much overlap.

Would there be too much overlap or would you say that the gremlin is enough for powder days?
