The 2020 Rossignol Sashimi LG Snowboard Review

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On August 15, 2019

Board: Rossignol Sashimi LG

Size: 156

Camber Option:Amptek Elite. 60% camber under foot with 40% rocker in the nose.

Bindings: K2 Indy

Stance: 21.5 Wide 15 Negative 12 Goofy

Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10

My Weight: 195lbs

Resort: Copper Mountain

Conditions: COLD!!! It was hovering around 0 to negative degree temps, overcast skies, high winds, fresh snow in the trees and on the sides of runs where it wasn’t groomed, and of course it was fucking cold as balls.

Flex: This board has a reverse directional flex that’s based off being a more mellow version of the one on the XV this means that you have a stiffer nose and a softer tail. What you get though with this board is a lot of flex in the nose that stiffens up by the front insert pack and progressly softens up to the tail. This means that you can ride it a bit more centered on the board and not worry about it getting bucked around. What I will say is that the torsional flex is a bit lacking which makes the board a bit of a chore to drive in tight trees so bring your A Game.

Stability: This board was super stable in choppy terrain. It just cut through anything in its path. While you will notice some chatter in the end of the nose it does not resonate back on this board which makes it awesome for just charging harder.

Ollies/Pop: Having camber under foot you can really load this board up to pop. Sending side hits was super fun and popping rollers takes no effort. The one thing to note is that while this has more tail than the Sushi you still end up losing a bit of performance off the back foot with how short it is.

Butterability: I attempted no less than 3 nose butters on this board. You have to find a fair amount of soft snow to get it to lock in and go. Then again this board isn’t made for buttering.

Carving: Do you like effortlessly carving? Good, this board is just that effortless. You can really lay it over on edge and get it to drive in with ease. It locks in and holds the carve through the apex of the turn. The edge to edge transmission is smooth and nimble. This board was fun to carve on a groomer.

Rider in Mind: Resort powder hunter that wants a mid level volume shifted board.

Personal Thoughts: Well it’s definitely not the XV and it’s definitely not the Sushi. This is a board that fits perfectly in the spectrum and it’s great for a resort rider that wants to crush wide open pow or get into trees. It wasn’t the best in the overly tight trees we have here in CO, but when they were more evenly spaced out this board just sent it. On groomers this board just fucking rips!

Had my eye on on this board for a while. I’m 185 lb but only 5 foot 6. Don’t know if I should go with the 152 light or the 156 regular

8.5 boot. Pow surfing and surf style boards are my jam. Could I get more playful on the 152?

For the 160 how wide is the rear width of the board where the binding mounts are ? Size 12 boots?

I thought they made a wide version that will fit a 12, I’m too lazy to look it up this morning, but double check that there’s a wide version because I’m pretty sure the regular one might be a tight squeeze.

Will the 156 with its 262 mm waist fit my 11.5 foot? Especially wondering about the back foot, as it seems kinda narrow there for a 0° stance.

Should be fine unless you’re slapping it all the way back on the last insert pack.

The XV Sashimi LG seems like such a great single board quiver for someone who rides powder at the resort, and groomers when no powder. Would you say it’s more like a pow board that carves, or a carving board that floats pow? Love that taper btw!

Big fan of the channel! I’m torn between the 52 and 56. I’m 170 5’10 size 10.5 boot. I think I’m leaning towards the 52 but am just concerned about the width of the board and my boot size.

    • Angrysnowboarder says: January 14, 2020 at 9:14 am

You can get away with a 10.5 on it just note with the taper you’re going to have your boot hanging over more than the front foot and if you slam it WAY back it’s going to only be worse.

Do volume shifted boards kinda suck if you’ve got size 7.5 boots? Any recommendations in the vol shifted realm for smaller feet? Looking for that resort pow surfer with good enough edge hold and stability to make it through cruddy PNW afternoons. Thanks!

I have the sushi wide thanks to your review and it is everything your review said it is. Its great in pow and especially good in tighter and steeper tree runs. BUT, it is not so good on faster chopped up runs as you said. So if i wanted a board that is everything the Sushi is but a little more stable at speed and tracked out rutted up runs would the sashimi be a good choice? it sounds like it would turn very much like the sushi which i love.

    • Angrysnowboarder says: January 21, 2020 at 10:22 am

Sashimi is the next step up from the Sushi for sure. What you’re really talking about is going to something stiffer that can bust through the chop.

56 for sure but I’d be worried about the taper on the tail not being wide enough for your boot.

Looking for a good tree board that can also hit groomers and uneven terrain. Was deciding between this or the never summer west bound x, or YES the Y. Which board should I get?I’m 6’4 190 with a 11 boot. Which one should I get for a good all around board? And would the sashimi fit my size 11 boot if I should get that one?

I’m looking to build a mini-quiver after many years of riding the same one board (including a few years not riding at all, sadly). Trying not to break the bank in the process, so I’ve been hunting the sale sections pretty aggressively.

Already snatched up a 2019 Gnu 4 159W as a starting point (I know you don’t love it, but it was cheap) and now I’m eyeballing an even chepaer ’19 Sashimi 160 for powder days and hopefully just generally charging harder if it’s up to the task.

    6’0″, 235lb, 11.5 boot

I’ll always prioritize powder when it’s available, but thoroughly enjoy charging and carving groomers when it’s not. Rarely get into the park, but love a good side hit and powder drops.

Have also been eyeballing a Slush Slasher 151 as a fun cruisy slasher that can also fill in for the 4 on deeper days but now wondering if the Sashimi might fit my style a little better. Or maybe snag all three and there’s my mini-quiver? Just want to be sure I have something I can confidently go fast as hell on when I want to. (To that end, your recent Korua Tranny Finder review is now complicating things.)

All right, long-winded as hell… Thanks in advance!

Only issue with the Sashimi is the taper on that thing might make it a bit narrow on the back foot with an 11.5, I haven’t looked at the specs on the 60 so could be wrong. Personally if you go Sashimi you don’t need Slush Slasher. I’d probably do 4 and Sashimi if I were you and call it good enough.

Cool review! I have a 20/21 Sashimi 160. I’m 5’11 and 190lbs with a 12 boot. I went with the longer board because of my boot size. I’m really diggin’ it and find your review pretty darn accurate. I’ve only been out on this thing a couple of times (been skiing a bit more with the lack of snow in UT), and I’m still trying to get my stance dialed. I feel like a narrower stance may be beneficial, and perhaps a bit forward of the reference. Your thoughts? Thanks!

Looking to add a 2nd board to my Never Summer Prototype 2. I mainly am a resort powder hunter, and for the price Sashimi looks like one of the best options. Most of the powder i find tends to be stashes between the trees, but on good days I will hike to a lot of big open bowls.

    5’9″
    ~170 lbs.
    8.5 boot

My current board is a 157. I *feel* like the 152 would be a nice compliment to be playful in trees on powder days, while still having all mountain capability when things get chopped up. Given that I’m right at the end of the range per their weight guidelines, worried that the 152 won’t give me enough float on big days.

152 or 156? Or is there another board I should check out? I thought about splurging for the Orca, but this seems like the Sashimi can fill a similar role at half the price.

    Hey Angry,
I’m looking to buy a new do-it-all board as my 1-board quiver. I’m intermediate to advanced and have been riding cheap traditional cambered boards my whole life. I like charging down groomers, mixing it up in crappy uneven snow, and taking powder lines including through trees when the powder is available. At 5’11” at about 160 lbs and 9.5 boot, I am looking at the Rossi Sashimi 156 or the Yes the Y 154. They are both on sale right now. Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Bambini CJJ

I haven’t tried either board so I’m a little lost as to whether they even make sense for the riding I’m describing. Do you think I’m on the right track with those options? If I’m not very interested in the park, would those boards be pretty versatile?
        Thanks
