Board: Ride Algorhythm
Size: 157
Camber Option: Directional Twin Hybrid Rocker. Directional twin camrocker.
Bindings: K2 Indy
Stance: 21.5 Wide 15 Negative 12 Goofy
Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10
My Weight: 195lbs
Resort: Arapahoe Basin
Conditions: Overcast skies, heavy wet snow occasionally falling, chunder pow, ice, chunder groomers, and some wind.
Flex: This board has a middle of the road all mountain flex. There’s a fairly even flex through this board as it is directional twin. The torsional flex is abundant and makes this board playful yet it still retains some precision.
Stability: You’ll feel some chatter underfoot and this board does get bounced around a bit in rutted out terrain but it doesn’t wash out or fold.
Ollies: The snap in this board is superb. You do have to load it up to get pop and be a bit more calculated with when you engage it, but the rebound is amazing.
Pop On Jumps: This board can handle jumps with ease. The snap of the board is accentuated off the lips of the jumps. It can handle most sized jumps in my opinion.
Butterability: The tips lock into presses with very little effort. You can hold a butter for however long you want and then pop right out of them. There’s some rebound but don’t worry about this board fighting you.
Jibbing: This board jibs well enough. You’ll have to put a little effort into presses but the sweet spot is immense and holds only to snap out when you get to the end of the feature. Getting sideways the camber locks in and hugs rails and boxes.
Carving: This board transitions from edge to edge with quickly. When on edge you can drive into the center of the board and get it to slingshot out of turns. If you want to drive hard into a carve and lay it over, go for it. Basically this board just rips on edge.
Rider in Mind: Rad dad who rips the whole mountain.
Personal Thoughts: This board is amazing. It’s the replacement for the Machete GT or so I was told, and thank fucking god. That board sucked, this board does not suck. I can’t stress enough how awesome this board is.

Sounds like the mercury has some competition in the all-mountain freestyle category…
It’s a different ride, it’s softer and more intermediate level and forgiving.
Cool thanks!
Hey Angry, I am currently in the market to replace or add to my current boards. I curently ride an old cambered lib tech dark series 157 and an option Makinen 158. Very similar boards in terms of stiffness and the makinen a bit more all mountain then the lib tech – both full cambered. Would consider myself an advanced-expert rider. 5’10 195lbs and size 9 boot. Im very overwelmed by the new rocker hybrid camber options. My decks are almost 20 years old. I no longer hit the park and mainly charge down anything that doesnt have moguls. Groomers and any powder I can find. Love laying down long carves when there is no fresh snow. I also ride switch quite a bit but would give that up for a board that could help me float better through some powder and turn through some tracked out trees. What boards would you recommend for this rad dad? Cheers.
Time to move on in to some more freeride oriented boards. Check out The Libtech Hot Knife or Swiss Knife, Gnu Mullair, Ride Berzerker or Commissioner, Jones Flagship, K2 Manifest, Yes PYL, Yes Standard, Yes Hybrid, and I think that’s probably enough to get you going in the right direction.
Thanks for the suggestions. I have looked into all of the decks and narrowed it down to the Ride Bezerker, Jones Flagship and YES PYL. Although the YES standard sounds fairly spot on as well.
Then you’re on your way.
Would any other those models lend themselves to having good nimble tree riding in shallow to moderate ridden out powder?
PYL.
Cheers – thank you! All my review reading has had that snowbord come up again and again for my needs.
Buying my first board in 12 years. 6’3,195, advanced rider. Been rocking an old Illuminati Aegis that I’ve actually loved, its just time to move on. I mainly ride CO resorts and spend most of my time charging down groomers, laying down carves and picking through the trees, side hits and the occasional park run (Pretty similar to the guy above). After way too much research im pretty high on this board. Looking for a “quiver of one” since i live on the east coast and only get about a dozen days out west a year. Any reason to look elsewhere or will this get the job done.
Thanks man, appreciate the content.
It’ll get the job done, if you were to look at something else I’d probably throw out the Jones Mountain Twin for something just a hair bit stiffer.
Got it, thanks for the suggestion.
Intermediate level here and this will be my first board, I like to get all over the mountain and stop by the park on the way down to hit a couple of jumps and rails… this board seems a good option. At 5ft9 and 185lbs (although may lose a little) and size 10.5’s would you suggest the 157? or 160W?
Any suggestions on bindings to go with it?
57 for sure.
Does a quadratic sidecut have extra contact points or wtf does it even mean? Can this board hang with the jones mtn twin or mercury as a daily driver?
Quadratic Sidecut is a 4 radius blended sidecut you don’t get any extra bumps. It’s softer than both of those decks.
Intermediate boarder here, looking for a board thats going to allow me to advance my skills with buttering and progressing a little more in the park as well. Is this board a good option for someone whos trying to hone their ability to ride switch? Will the fact that its directional make it a lot more difficult to do so?
This is the board is it 100%. It’s got a set back, whoopity do does 3/4ths of an inch make a difference? No.
Angry love the videos you had let me to this board. Seem like you think it is a great board for progressing as a snowboarder. I wanted to ask you what would be a good binding and boot combo to go along with this board. I also wanted to ask what size you would suggest for me. I am 5′ 11″ about 185lbs size 10.5 boots. Let me know if there is anything else you would suggest for me.
Thanks again!
Dave
I think it’s a 57 or 58 that’s the size you want. Best boot is the one that fits your foot and fits your needs so go try on some boots and see what works for you. Bindings if you go Ride it’s either LTD or Rodeo, Burton Cartel/Malavita, Rome DOD or Katana, Arbor Cypress, K2 Formula, Union STR or Force.
Yo wassup Anngry. Thanks for the reviews. I just got a Capita Mercury and like the board. I don’t luv it because of the torsional flex. I think its just a bit too burly for me. Would the Algorythm be a good alternative? Groomers, trees, and pow. Like to bomb but worried I might loose a little stability. I consider myself an advanced intermediate rider. Should I keep workin the Mercury and wait for it to flex a bit more over time or go for the Algorythm. I am 5″11 and 205lbs. Thx Bro luv what u do.
What size Mercury did you get? Also the Algorhythm will be torsionally softer that’s for sure.
I got the 161. I liked the longitudinal flex but I think the carbon stringers effected the torsional flex. I took it back. I agreed w someone who said it was like ridin a 18 wheeler w a bunch of Ferrari engines. Felt it was harder to control for quick changes of direction and edge to edge. Oh, but I the base was NICE. Maybe I should have sized down.
Due to the fact that you seem trustworthy in a world full of f’fin hype I wanted the Ride Algorythm, very similar to Mercury but softer flex, Ride never got back to the retailer I use in Berkeley Ca.
I went w the Orca but they only had 159. Ideally I wanted a 156 but they did not have it. Fuck it, boots, bindings, board, nothing will ever be perfect. Just gonna take it out and have fun. Kirkwood Ca is the spot!
I’m Black and ya boy Kev said he was takin over for you on a vid because you were out w the idis. That was funny.
To be clear the edge to edge on the Mercury is my main complaint. Feels too slow for me.
Thanks for all the great reviews, really enjoy the site.
I’m currently on a 2015 Jones Mountain Twin. The abuse is starting to show, but I could probably squeeze another couple years out of it. I’m still looking at new boards though and really like the Algorythm.
Do you think a new Algorythm would be too similar to the current 5 year old Jones board I have… and I should consider a different style of board all together (like that party/pow board I’ve had my eye on)? Or has the technology changed sooo much that it’d be a life changing for me?
I’m about a 25 day a season rider, so having that do it all board is fairly important to me cause they’re not all pow days… but I’m not trying to duplicate.
Any advice?
The biggest difference is it’ll be softer than your MT was when it was new, but probably similar in flex now that your MT is broken in. Ask yourself do you need a board to do everything or do you need a party board? What’s going to get ridden more.
190 lbs 6ft 10.5 boots
161 or 160w
Thanks!
The wide will give you added stability but with a 10.5 you’re on the cusp of going with the regular depending on which boot you have.
Can you update your rad dad list for 2020? Thanks in advance.
Somebody didn’t search https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IT340L99bIQ&lc=z232sleymri2v5xmracdp43a5iacndximglewicw5pdw03c010c
180lbs size 10 boot and 5ft9
Should i go 157 or 154
Thanks!
54 if you want to play around more, 57 if you want to charge a bit more.
Hi, if you have 195lbs / 157, can i ride with 155lbs / 154 ?
Thx
Yes.
Angry, long time watch first time caller. Question for you and I am hoping for some guidance. I have been looking at upgrading my board this season and had narrowed it down to the capita mercury or the ride algorhythm but need some final guidance.
Currently, I am riding a 162 wide rossiginol templar magtek from 5 years ago and am looking to upgrade. I have size 11 thirty-two TM2 boots with rossignol cuda v1 M/L bindings. I am 6’1 and weigh 215. I am trying to size the board properly. The specs say I should be looking at the 160W for my weight but want to make sure that is correct. I live and ride in ohio so POW and heavy snow is not a thing for me. 100% resort/groomed runs. Mostly all “mountain” riding/charging with some jumps and side hits in and around the park. Thank you for any guidance!
Yeah a 160 wide is fine for you.
Thank you so much for confirming! Really enjoy the vids and content and look forward every time I see a new vid notification popup in my youtube feed. Thanks again, can’t wait to try out the board!
Wanted to report back that I got my algorhythm yesterday and got it on the slopes today and you were spot on. Love this board! Extremely happy with the purchase. The 160W was spot on! Thank you again.
I’m getting tired trying to keep up with the kids on the steeps, is this the board for me?
Currently on 2008 burton un inc 160 so it’s about time.
5’ 10” 135lbs , would 157 work? Thanks!
I’d probably go with something a bit stiffer like a Jones Mountain Twin but that’s me.
Hey Angry, love the content! love reading and seeing your reviews and top 5’s regarding.
I’m a 6’2 rider with a 12 size boot (possibly 11.5 with reduced footpront shoe), skinny 175 lbs, which size of the algorythm is best for me? 160w? i like to carve, butter, some tree lines, and really like side hits, mainly small-medium.
I think there’s a 57 wide, that’s what I’d put you on.
Hi Angry, Like Ron I’m also a skinny (152 lbs) sasquach (11-11.5 boot size),
i’m thinking of getting the algorythm, thinking of the 155w with the 25.8 mm waist width or the 160w with 264 waist width, worried about toe/heel drag and it being able to charge and carve hard.
If you really want to charge and carve hard get a stiffer board.
Sup Angry~
So, I’m a Rad Dad boarder who is an upper Advanced level. Looking to round out a 2 board quiver. I’m 6ft, 185, size 10 boot.
Right now I’ve got a Neversummer Funslinger 154x for a buttery, soft, party board. And ride a Capita Outerspace living 157 for the all mountain stuff.
I’ve been looking to sell the Outerspace and get either a Mercury or a Algorythm. I do alot of trees and like quick edge to edge and want something capable on pow days or hanging on the steeps in the PNW. Thoughts? Right now the Algorythm is on sale for $200 under a Mercury… But man… Everything I’ve seen about the Mercury looks beastly.
Thanks for your help bro. Love the site~
Honestly save the money get the Ride. Just be aware it’s going to feel like a marginal upgrade from your Outerspace Living. The same would be said with the Mercury.
Thanks!
I picked up the Outerspace before reading your review on it and realized your crits were nearly identical to mine. Im looking for more edge hold and something I can set back more in pow. We’ll see how presses compared between Algorythm and Outerspace, I was never able to really nail butters on the Capita. It’s got a weird flex for it, even tho it has rockered tips.
Went ahead and bought the Ride. Stoked for it. Thanks again-
I’m looking to get the 2021 version but need help on a size I’m 6’’0 210 and after thinking I was a size 12 and getting sized up I’m 9.5 boot. I’m trying to decide from the 157 or 160w
If you have a 9.5 boot you do not need a wide.
Hey man, ordered a 20/21 Algorythm 160W
5’10” 195 to 205 depending on how many tacos that week. Size 10 boot.
Am I good there? Also is there a dedicated heel side, as in does it matter which way I mount the bindings? I’m naturally a reg foot and have no issues riding switch.
Thanks for you feedback(in advance).
John
Well it’s not asymmetrical so one would hope you understand how to read when looking at a graphic and don’t think if the graphic is upside down that is correct.
Sup Angry, so I just bought a 157 of this board… but I was thinking of exchanging to a 154… I do equally both park and all mountain… I weigh 160lbs, 5’9ish, size 9.5 boots… Should I stick with the 157 or go with the 154? I feel I should size down to the 154 but read 3 cms is not that big of a difference…
I’d size down.
Thanks for great review! have a dilemma – which size would be better? I am 5’8″ and 165-170lbs (w/o gear), 10US boots (Maysis). It’s my 3rd season, so kinda closer to Intermediate level. All-mtn 60%, small jumps and spins 30% (both in a park and on flats), powder 10% (enjoyed it but not much experience so far). So 154 or 157 would be better? our shop has no 155w.
I’d do the 57 for what you’re saying you want to do with it.
Hey man, I’m a bit ion the fence between the algorithm 157 and mercury 157.
165-175 lbs, 5’10” size 10-10.5 depending on boot
(mostly all mountain, starting To get into Park, trying to improve my trees so quick edge to edge and powder skills When it’s available. Also Few small-med jumps and side hits, the rest of the time I’m going down hill, trying to control speed) I hear capita is super fast…
Out of Montreal, CANADA – most groomers/med-hard snow + some occasional ice…for an intermediate would you recommend ?
Either will work for you. Pick the one you like the most based on visuals.
Went with 2021 Algorythm 157 (25.4 waist) with union atlas M and 10 ADV Tacticals. My only concern is that it won’t charge as much at 157 (standing at 5’10”)smallest Board I will have ridden…do you think it makes a big difference from 160 That is also offered (in terms of downhill bombing)?
Well your weight is what matters over your height so…
Sorry last question, seeing as I’m 165-175lbs (limit of range for 157 is 170lbs), I should be fine if I’m a couple pounds over (mostly because of equipment)?
No you will horribly explode like a bad straight to VHS action movie when they shoot at a car driving in a straight line.
Hi Angry. I currently have a 155 Yes Basic (size 9.5 boots, 160 lbs, 5’11”) and am looking for my next one-board quiver. I’m an intermediate (lower to mid level) and I do mostly all mountain while hitting some boxes/rails/jumps in the park. I was debating on the Ride Algorythm (either 154 or 157) or the Yes Typo (either 155 or 158). I want something a bit more stable but still being very easy to turn.
Few questions for you…. 1) Would either of the Typo/Algorythm be better than the basic for me? 2) Any thoughts on Typo or Algorythm? 3) What size would you recommend on each based on my specs?
Thank you so much! I follow all your stuff and your reviews are great!
Get a 55 Typo and go ride.
I was debating on going larger (157/158) but I’ll stick to your recommendation of 155 Typo.
Thank you!
I bought this board. Review is spot on. Super fun all over and can hamg in there going fast too. Another thing I was stoked on is the fit and finish of the board. The base is super fast, the sidewalls are perfect, it just feels super well made. It makes my Mervin look like a student shop project :)Got me hyped on Ride again. Thank you!
Looking for a New board to replace burton proces 2011 traditional camber. I am on a 7 days snowboard vacation each year. Norway or the alps
I was Looking at the ride algo or the yes typo, or mountain twin.
I dont do mutch park ridning. Mostly side hits and black runs in the alps.
What would you choose?
Ask yourself what sidecut tech and flex you want and go from there. Algo is the stiffest then the MT and finally the Yes. MT grips the best then the Typo and Algo are kind of tied.
Hi Angry, what do you think about the Flex between the Algorythm and the new 2021 Jones MT, which board would you put a low level intermediate on (as per one of your 2-board quiver video, you mentioned that you can put a low level intermediate to expert on the Ride Algorythm)?
Thanks!
Mountain Twin is softer than the Algorhythm.
Thanks Angry, which of the two would you recommend to a low intermediate who wants to progress in groomers, lay mellow, or tight or long drawn carves, learn to ride trees and pow and side hits and maybe 5% park ride for jumps. And could you recommend a size please, am 5’9″ 186lbs, US9 boots.
Thanks again!
I’d go Algorthym for that and I’d get a 156 to 158.
Hi Angry,
Love your work. Is the 154 ok for a size 10us boot? Or should I go the 155w?
I’m 145lb, 5,11” size 10
Cheers
Should work. Ask yourself if you want more stability if that’s the case then bump up that 1cm.
Thanks. Think I might go the 155Wide then
I have 10s and boot out sometimes on the 57 on deep carves. Board rips though…
Thank you. I’ll heed your advice and go the 155wide
Hi Angry, appreciate your video! Thank you! High-beginner/Low Intermediate here at 5’8” 180lbs and buying my first board for learning/progressing for groomers (learning how make my turns second nature and learn how to get on edge more to start learning how to carve) and side hits mainly off park. I have a good deal at local shop selling a 154cm Ride Algorythm for $188 and 155cm YES Basic for $194. But I’m not sure if the ride would fit me, though it’s cheaper and have higher spec stuff compared to the Basic, but the weight recommended by Ride for 154cm is up to 165lbs whereas the basic fits me at the high end of their recommended weight. May I ask which would be a better buy and still able to progress? And use it for park learning in future! Thank you!
At your level get the Basic.
Thanks Angry! So even with the Algorhythm is cheaper than the basic and the 154cm also don’t suit my weight compared to the YES Basic? Is the 155cm good? Thanks again!
Sure.
Hi Angry. I’m about to buy the 2021 algorithm. I’m just not sure if I should go with the 160w or 164w. I weight 190lbs 6’3 11.5(28.4cm foot size) with Addidas accera (they are not bulky :)) and union atlas bindings. Would appreciate your opinion.
I’d get the 60 unless you’re looking for more hard charging/pow float.
What size would you recommend for 155lbs 10.5 bindings? 155wide or 157?
I’d go with the 55w.
Hi Angry,
I am a 5ft 9.5/10 inch 145 pound rider with 10.5 size boots I ride quite a bit in the “Ice Coast”, but get out to Colorado occasionally, like once or twice a year if I am able. And currently am going to college in Wisconsin so hard pack there.
I would say I’m now an intermediate-advanced all mountain rider, I enjoy trees but I’m looking to learn how to go off side hits, learn how to jump and do some tricks etc. Maybe go into the park a couple times but less than 5-10%.
Off of your reviews, I have been thinking about a few all mountain Boards
– Ride Algorythm
-Capita Mercury,
– Yes Standard
– Yes Typo
– Jones Mountain Twin
A board shop I went to also said the Lib TechTRS C3 is a good choice as well.
I have been leaning towards the Ride Algorithm in 155w but wasn’t 100% sure.
Do you think one of these boards is better than the other, or did I miss a board that might be ideal?
Thank you for your time!
Get that Ride since you’re leaning towards it and go shred.
For bindings, do you still have the same with: Ride it’s either LTD or Rodeo, Burton Cartel/Malavita, Rome DOD or Katana, Arbor Cypress, K2 Formula, Union STR or Force.
Thanks a lot,
They don’t make the Rodeo or LTD anymore so…
Ah I’m a dumbass LOL Should have done some research before copy pasting a previous response. Now that I have done some looking(sorry about that).
I saw the ride c8’s but slightly worried about strap issue with Adidas Lexicon’s (good ride touched upon it)
Any thoughts on the team vs team pro as I couldn’t find a video or review on it from you. In addition would you go for the nitro binding or something like a Burton cartel for the ride board.
Thank you so much for the help much appreciated.
If you want to listen to The Good Ride that’s your choice, I wouldn’t.
I’ll take your advice not listening to the good ride, thanks for having a comment section that is open and answering questions.
Trying to figure out what it is about this board that makes me like it so much. It rides much better than all my other boards. What is the deal with pre cured fibreglass? Thats the only thing I can really see different that this has. Anyway, great recco. Board is so poppy and smooth, its the best feeling board Ive ever ridden.
It’s not a turd.
Hey Angry – Perfect Site and Reviews! Thanks man! I am 193cm Tall, 97kg, Size 12 Boots. Advanced Rider (20 years, 10 days per year in the French or Austrian alpes. Riding Style changed a bit over the years. As i am coming from Skateboarding, I still Love site hits and 360s here and there. But no more real Park or any Rails.my Last Board was a Never Summer PT2 in 161W. What I loved: playfullness, carving!!!, switch, easy butters, Edge hold on ice! What I hated: too much chatter at higher Speed (>45mph), not enough float in pow. Nvthls the Board opened my eyes what carving can mean on a Freestyle Deck!!! My previous one was a Ride Antic from 2008 – pure Camber – damp but boring compared to the NVS PT2. Unfortunately the PT2 broke on my Last trip, when driving into a hidden Stone. My next board should be capable to handle pow and Speed better than the PT2. I would sacrifice a bit of the playfullness and also a little bit of the outstanding carving abilities of the PT2 but like to have a Little bit more of a damp ride. Could the algorithm be what i am Looking for? What size would you recommend? I was also looking for the mercury but fear that the max 160w is too short for me in powder . Some recommended the BSOD to me, but i thought it might be a too big step from softer Freestyle to aggressive All Mountain, as i still like to play around a bit. A 2020 Salomon assassin 163w was offered by a friend, but probably too soft?! So the Algorithm in 164w seems to be a bit of everything I am looking for. What do you think and what are potential alternatives? Thanks a lot and sorry for the Long Text…
You’re good.
Hey Angry, I’m pulling the trigger on a Ride Algo. Size 11 boots, 185 lbs, 6’ 0”. Do you think I can get away with 155W or should I bump up to 160W? I’m only planning on getting fatter from here on out if that helps. Thanks man!
Just get the 55w unless you’re planning on being on “My Big Fat Ass Life” on some stupid channel on TV.
Hey Avran,
Is there a change with the 2022 model? Why does the weight range differ compared to the previous years?
Marketing.
Hey angry how are you. Intermediate rider, 6.1, 185 weight, 11 US boot. Very little park, mainly groomers and some pow.
Do I go for the 157 or the 161? Still progressing and no Wides available with my dealer where I live.
Cheers
61
Hey angry, how did you ride the algorythm? Centered stance, or reference with 20mm setback? Perhaps tried both?
cheers
Well the review shows the stance I used so…
Hey Avron- thx for keeping the reviews so real.
Ok, my question when you might have a second: Algorythym or Yes Greats?
I’m 6 foot, 185 pounds, size 11.5 boot. Intermediate rider, boarding about 10 days/year. I like to board the whole mountain with a freestyle bent. Probably 70% groomers , 10% trees, 20% park.
I can get a hold of a yes Greats 156, or an algorithm 155W or 160 W.
Would love to know what you think.
11.5 boots you’re going to want something wider. I’d say since you ride 10 days a year are pushing for a more freestyle flare go with the 55w Ride.
Makes sense… thanks again for always taking the time to answer.
Heyo, considering the Algo 155W or 157. I’m a tall female (5’11), 185lbs, size 10.5 mens boot. I would say I’m an intermediate rider, but beginner in park and plan on learning to hit more features next season. I’m looking for a board that can handle moderate speed and carving, could still ride on light pow days, but also is flexible/forgiving enough for progressing in the park. Thoughts? Thanks
Wait on getting an Algo and get the new Shadowban that’s coming out from Ride. It’s the little brother to the Algo but shares the same shape, camber, and sidecut. More flexible and better for what you’re describing.
Hey AS:
1. Is the 2023 model any different to this one?
2. How does the Algorhythm perform in icy conditions?
What’s the edge hold like?
Graphic. Keep your edges sharp and you’re fine.
Hello Mr. Angry
I decided I want a Ride board, and its between Algorhythm and Superpig. I ride all over the mountain, I prefer trees and gulleys, sadly I dont get alot of powder where I ride. Park is just lapping it on rare occasions, I dont really enjoy bombing down, but do enjoy carving on piste. I like to jump on natural stuff and butter a bit and switch is not for me.
What should I get? Intermediate rider here, closing fast into Advanced. Size 9.5 US and 185lbs
Superpig.
