The 2020 Bataleon Party Wave Snowboard Review

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On August 15, 2019

Board: Bataleon Party Wave

Size: 154

Camber Option: Mellow camber with Freeride 3BT and Sidekick

Bindings: K2 Indy

Stance: 21.5 15 negative 12 goofy

Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10

My Weight: 195lbs

Resort: Copper Mountain

Conditions: A few fresh inches of snow that was heavy and wetter than normal, warmer temps, overcast skies, and fog.

Flex: This board has a fully playful middle of the road directional flex. Softer nose going into a stiffer tail. There’s an abundance of torsional flex which makes this board playful yet precise when you need it.

Stability: This board got knocked around a bit in the rutted out mid day snow pack but it never buckled. You’ll feel every vibration with it as you charge around the mountain. It’s a very lively board.

Ollies/Pop: This board has ample snap for what it is meaning you can send it off side hits, rollers, and poppers in the trees. You don’t have to aggressively load up the camber section to get a reaction out of it.

Butterability: That nose is a giant scoop, it just wants to roll over and butter with ease. The flex is easy to engage on the nose and you don’t have to worry about it rebounding on you. What’s nice about the tail is that it’s so stubby you can manipulate it how you see fit.

Carving: The sidecut on this deck is perfect for getting it on edge and driving with it through a carve. You don’t have to worry about it not engaging unless you’re on ice, then you’re probably fucked. This board is really at home when you’re railing from one side of the run to the other chasing after fresh snow.

Rider in Mind: Someone that wants to ride the party wave and go party boarding.

Personal Thoughts: The best way to sum up this board was like someone combined the Slush Slasher and the Party Platter but made it a bit bigger. This is 100% a board for spraying, slaying, and slashing. Railing through tight trees on this board turned everything into a giant slalom course. Can’t praise this deck enough.

    Hey Angry,

    Big fan of your reviews!

I’m planning to add a second board to my quiver for Pow / Party Boarding and I’m stuck between the Party Wave, Slush Slasher, and Party Platter. My daily driver is a Gnu Headspace which I enjoy a bunch. Only consideration is I have size 12 feet so width is always a concern. I mostly fuck around in the park and on the groomers and I’m an intermediate rider. Tryna get the most smiles per dollar out of my next board.

    Thanks man!

Get the Party Platter then. Party Wave is a sick board but it sounds like you want something for real party boarding. Slush Slasher isn’t what you want.

Would the bataleon surfer edge out the others (inc. the party wave)?

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it a ton.

At the moment I’m definitely learning to the K2, especially after seeing your review. The only hesitation I had about the party platter was it’s pow capabilities. This being said, I’m realistically gonna get 5 pow days or less this season so I’m sure its less of a big deal than I think it is. I was also wondering how different it would feel compared to the Headspace, I was worried that they might overlap a bunch. Never ridden anything besides twins so have no clue what to expect but definitely eager to mix it up.

    thanks a ton, man!

It’s going to have more float than your Headspace, feel weird because it’s short but wide, and grip differently on snow as well as carve completely different.

This or the warpig for a volume shifted fun board

      Warpig is more well rounded.

Size suggestion for 160lbs? Is the 151 the best option for float in powder?

That’ll give you some solid float and be fine with your weight.

Hey Angry, do you think arbor hemlocks or ~2017 rome katanas would be a better fit for this board? I am trying to figure out what gear to pack when I take my party wave out on my next trip, and cant really spare the space in my bag to bring both.

    Thanks for all the info!

Hi, what size would you recommend for my weight being usually around 168 lbs? (kinda varies from 165 minimum to 172 maximum). Feet size 9. 6 feet tall. I currently ride Ride Twinpig 2019 at 154. Could I make 154 Party Wave work too? The thing is that my store only has 154 size left at a very good price. Thank you!

You can make it work for sure 51 would be better.

Hi Angry, I like to ride a lot of trees. Would you recommend this or the surfer? I’m attracted to the surfy feel in open areas so I’m tempted to lean towards the surfer.

      Either will honestly work.

Following up on our discussion from the stream chat about pow boards w/ pop but still have grip on ice… I see that you mention that this has like no grip on ice, but is it really that bad? The ice I encounter is more on the groomers at the end of the day as I come down the mountain and everyone has pushed the snow down. I would probably only bring the board out on pow days. I guess I still enjoy some taper, and I’d miss out on that with the Bataleon Magic Carpet. Or maybe I’ll go back to the Rome pow division. I just want all the boards 🙁

I’m talking sheet ice, what you’re describing would have more grip.

    Hey!
please help me to understand main differences between Bataleon CT to Party wave? And which one is more success from your opinion?
Can’t decide which one is the best for me.
    About me:
All mountain rider, most of the time riding powder/freeride.
Very difficult to choose, both boards are amazing. 😛

Have been riding a slush slasher for years and love the surfy feel but thinking of changing it for something that can offer something a bit more technical/better pop. Party platter/warpig/party wave or get another slush slasher? Dont want to lose the fun but just want to get a bit more from a board maybe.

You’ll probably want a Party platter if you want a bit more.

Thanks, had a great time on a trail day so seems like a good shot. How does the carving and pop compare to party wave?

If you want more playful and surfy I’d go Union Strata, K2 Lien AT, and maybe a Now x Yes. If you want a little more versatility then Ride A or C 6, Rome DOD, Burton Cartel.
