With months of planning going into what could be called the premier movie premiere of the Northern hemisphere’s shred season, Snowboard on the Block had to fight its biggest opponent, Mother Nature. Luckily for all those attending she decided to hold off for most of the day on douching Denver in more rain and the event was able to go off.
With snowboarders braving the weather from near and far here’s a look at the ins and outs of the biggest premiere in North America. The line up of movies was insane, you had everything from the big guys to the littlest of the little. The problem was that between band sets, the rail jam, and the over whelming vendor village people were not apprized of when certain movies were playing. This could have been fixed with a simple sandwich board being shoved every 3 to 5 booths listing the movie times.
The vendor village was a free gear whores wet dream. You could play games at some booths, nerd out on pros at others, and of course all the free stickers and shirts! If you were a brand and you weren’t here you pretty much blew it on whoring yourself to potential fans.
The weirdest part about this premiere was that they went with a mostly metal theme for the live music. This brought out an eclectic crowd ranging studded up back patched mall punk kids to old school thrash metal enthusiasts. You could tell who was here for the music and who was here for snowboarding.
All in all this event replaces Snowboard on the Rocks, a movie premiere that we found lacking. For a first year event it went well, we look forward to how next years turns out.
Below you’ll find a few photos from the event to give you an idea of how things went.
