So yesterday, October 21st the snowboard world was inundated with the news that The Shred Bots crew released their full movie. It was the typical release announcement of check this out and then go here and buy it. Yet, no one took the time to say whether or not it was worth the $12.99 that Vimeo On Demand is charging.
Well, now you’re probably asking yourself if it truly is worth the money to buy it. It depends on what you’re looking for. Is this a movie for everyone? Definitely not it’s more like a well polished season long edit that features everything from park riding to insane backcountry slashes.
Branded with Torsteins and his comrades unique sense of humor there are multiple moments where you laugh at what is going down. Whether it’s the man himself jumping through a hula hoop or Brage Richenberg pointing out that the one ski patroller that has to help them at a private shoot is the same one that took his pass earlier in the season.
Fans of Andreas Wiig should rejoice. The Norwegian powerhouse has a might triumphant return to the screen. His dominance on jumps is still prolific and he even goes upside down, twice! This is a movie more geared for the jumping audience, so for you die hard jib kids just bask in what Anto Chamberlain has to do.
The filming quality is top notch, but with GoPro attached that is to be expected. 4k anyone? Think of it as a mix between a Standard Film or Absinthe movie crossed with some RK1 crew and then just a hint of what the local guys are doing.
Over all it’s part park, a little bit jib, an over abundance of backcountry, humor for good measure, and just a tiny bit documentary so people can sense what it’s like to be a pro snowboarder. Would I recommend this movie to everyone? No, but for those that are a fan of more main stream polished flicks it’s a definite contender. How would I rank the replay value of this flick? Well, that’s a tough one but I can say this won’t be in top rotation during the old morning shred ritual. So if you have thirteen dollars to spend hit up Vimeo On Demand an download it, if you don’t take that money and buy a movie that’s more your style.
