Last year there was a huge fiasco with Burton ending up in Costco that only people that remotely cared about knew of. This year it seems in place of Costco the Sams Club is now the popular buying warehouse of choice if your shop sucks and you need to dump a product. Now what product would that be, why the snow sliding variety.
Yes, it is true Sams Club now carries real snowboards unlike those plexi glass pieces of shit. But what brands do they carry, well trying to dive head first into the snowboard world they picked up the Big B. Don’t believe me click this link. Now evidently all Burton snowboards are made in the USA and assembled here. Interesting fact I didn’t know just like the Burton Lux is a mens board that retails for $843.08. Damn thats a screaming deal for a Lux, huge saving! But everyting is covered by the Sam’s Club Membership Guarantee. Straight from Sams Clubs website here’s what they’ll offer me for satisfaction
100% Satisfaction Guarantee on Merchandise and Membership – We stand behind our merchandise and Membership completely. If you are ever dissatisfied, we will give you a full refund.
Now here’s a funny article I felt like digging up over on Transworld Business. So it looks like yet again Burton either fucked up or purposely sold to a giant super store. My guess is they sold to the giant super store, but will probably blame some store that of course will remain anonymous.
So my guess is they’ll do the same thing they did during the last round of gray marketing. Here’s what ole Clarky Gundlach had to say about how things went down last time.
Costco has several regional buying offices and it was purchased out of the Northwest and distributed all the way to Denver locations. There was some in California. The bulk of it was in Utah, Idaho and Oregon and Washington. We got a panic phone call from one of our reps – ‘Hey, there’s Customs in a Costco here.’ ‘Are you kidding me? How’d that happen? Go in there and buy some of the product!’ So, step one – we immediately tried to identify the source, then we realized within a day, that this was more widespread then we hoped for. Costcos here, Costcos there, so we sent our sales force out on a mission to identify where they are, and immediately told our sales organization to go in there and buy all the product right now – pay full retail, get it out of there. We cannot have our product in Costco.
So I guess get it while they’re hot before Burton whips out the platinum power spending cards and takes them all back.
