There are two things that are pretty hot in the older snowboarding demographic these days: pow surfing and vintage snowboards. Looking at the fact people are reverting to binding-less snow sliding devices and trading relics of snowboarding’s history it was only a matter of time before snowboarding brought back its roots.
Balance Designs Inc. the makers of the VewDo Balance Boards are bringing back the original Snurfer. Brew Moscarello has been quoted saying, “VewDo has its roots in snowboarding, and with balance being a key part of riding a Snurfer, we thought who better than us to bring this icon back to market. We’re also thrilled to be providing a high quality, made-in-the-USA product, that doesn’t require batteries, and which will inspire adventure and healthy lifestyle.”
This keeps with the original Snurfer’s roots as it was created and made here in the United States. The pro USA made people can rejoice! The one other thing to note is that they’ve added a beefier model called The Nomad, this supped up model fits into the current trend of powder surfing which is gaining more traction in the snow world.
For those that want to go further down the nostalgia kick, Jeff Grell, the inventor of the Highback Binding has launched his own company of Snurfers called Grell Boards. If you caught this edit we posted the latter half of it was completely dedicated to riding his decks at Jackson Hole.
Even though these are a remake, for collectors this can be a slightly cheaper option as original Snurfers on eBay are going for as much as double the price of the new ones. The real question that needs to be asked as the cost of snowboarding escalates will these become the way to break the barrier of entry and cause a resurgence in the do it yourself backyard snowboard movement?
