basich is 100% Flow now – i guess if it pays the bills…
Ain’t selling out if it keeps food on the table.
A lotta people hate on Flow because they’re Flow rather than having actually ridden any product. I know about 5 people who demoed Flow 2011 product and were very pleasantly surprised. Besides, if it’s good enough for Scotty Lago…
flow was started by windsurfers who wanted to make bindings for lazy old men
That Team board graphic is SICK.
Here in the South East we love our flows With short runs who want’s to waste time with straps?
Does Flow need to clean up there line(binding wise) and standardize some common parts so these things aren’t such a problem to service? You bet. In general the trend towards matchy matchy boards boot’s and bindings needs to go the hell away. It’s a retail nightmare.
I’ve ridden Flow bindings for the past 6 or more years. I tried going back to straps last season and a little bit the season before just to see if I was missing something and came to the conclusion that no, I’m not. I rode a pair of Ride Delta Mvmnt binders in 08/09 on one of my decks. Didn’t like em too much, way too soft in the high back and ended up causing me a shit ton of pain down the right side of my shin. Figured it might be the binding so I bought a set of Union Force off a friend, tried desperately to like them because I’d heard such good things. Ended up selling them on to another friend and went back to my Flow set up.
I agree with Terry. People bust on Flow without ever having ridden a set. I hear the same complaints, “They don’t have any control” sorry I’m calling bullshit on that. I feel like I have just as much if not more control than with regular straps but without having to crank them to the point where my toes go numb. “The cables snap” again BS. I’ve had multiple sets, cables never snapped. I’m 230lbs and I ride aggressively. Hasn’t happened yet. “The highback flopped open” I don’t even understand how this can happen. In order to close them you have to flip the lever past a certain point where it is basically impossible for it to flop open unless you have your boot in there so loose that it’s set up wrong in the first place.
Fact is if you don’t like them that’s okay, no one says you have to like them. I just get sick of bullshit like “product X sucks” then there’s no ass to back it up. I didn’t like Unions, does that make them a bad product?? Hell no, they are extremely well built there just not my thing. My buddy who bought them thinks they rock the shit. i hated the rides because a) the highback was way too soft, b) the screws and other hardware would back itself out of the straps at least once a day c) the buckles were flimsy and didn’t always engage the ladder strap as well as it should.
RANT OFF
carver, you’re right on about matchy-matchyness. must go. horrible. burton, flow: guilty.
bk: i’ve been on ride rx bindings for 3 years and although i don’t have any performance complaints, the hardware is definitely problematic. Baseplate screws back themselves out CONSTANTLY, and i bent one of the plates overtightening it not realizing it wasnt seated properly. None of this would;ve happened with a simple plastic plate, but they use aluminum. WHY? i’m trying some cartels this fall, but i think i’ll end up on some kind of union by christmas. those things just look right. If all that fails. i’ll try this nonsense with the flappy-back, one-strap.
I ride with drake czars in the front and flows in the back. Never have to sit to mount rear foot, easy off the lifts. Full advantage to great strap fit in front with convenience of flows in the rear where you really need it.
Why? Bend at the waist and you don’t have to sit down.
I wasn’t sure about Flows. I gave them a shot last season and they make totally legit gear. Boards and Bindings.
