The end of May for most people is the start of summer. By now you have seen some plus 20-30C degree temps and your clear to white glow you have acquired over the long winter months is turning to a nice tomato red. Most of the snowboard community has wished the 2013 season a good bye till next time.
In Revelstoke recently there was an event for the rest of us. I was lucky enough to get invited and make it to the 1st ever Cabin Fever hosted by Revelstoke Mountain Resort and The Cabin (local skate/snow shop in Revelstoke) and the fearless leaders of this shop Troy Mayhew and Agnes Kowalczuk. After 4 years of working out the kinks and finally getting approval it was on. It was an invitational for the other guy. 200 people was the limit and the event had a private lift, beer and Caesars by donation, sunny weather(thanks mother nature!) side hits and high fives all around.
With most events this day and age making you do tricks, whips and slips to win, it was refreshing to see that this event had a simple agenda: Ride, hit some stuff, grab an adult beverage or two and enjoy the season that was.
It will be interesting to see this event evolve over the years as more people hear about it. But to be honest I have not seen a snowboard event executed this well in some time. We even got underwear at registration! (thanks my package!)
Special thanks to Troy Mayhew and Agnes Kowalczuk in organizing this shindig and Revelstoke Mountain Resort for facilitating this dance. Oh yeah and snowboarding because it is fun as hell.
