DC BDR with K2 Formulas
This is year 2 for DC boards and while they’re not a bad ride and will get you down the mountain I’ve spent more time noticing subtle problems in how they’re built. Granted supposedly they’re changing up manufacturers but we’ll see when the production decks hit stores this fall. Here’s a review of possibly the worst board I’ve ridden all year.
Board: DC BDR (Bender Done Right)
Size: 156
Bindings: K2 Formulas
Stance: 22.5
Angles: 18 negative 15 goofy
Boots: K2 T1 DB
My Weight: 168
Resort: Keystone
Conditions: Cold and shitty with lots of snow coming down
Mindset: So cold
Tunes: Kix
Preconceived Notions: DC boards ride alright for having 2 years but there’s some things that really bother me about them. I started noticing how rushed the quality is when I was looking at them. Its a hand lay up for the decks and you can tell the guy is working on the right side of the bench because if you look at the left side of the board there’s either a huge gap between the tip and tail spacer, the spacer overlaps the sidewall, or its filled with epoxy. This had me questioning how rushed their rocker was.
Flex: Torsionally this board had so much give in it that it would buckle when pressing it on anything. It reminded me of how their PBJ rode. It’s just soft as hell with rocker.
Stability: Was nonexistent, you just couldn’t get it up to any speeds at all.
Ollies/Pop: You can get it up but I think Viagara might help it out a bit.
Butterability: I’ll give it credit for this you can butter the muffin like nobodies business.
Cruising: Why even bother with this thing. Yeah you can get it on edge but it doesn’t hold and riding around on groomers was sketch ball.
Jibbing: You’d think for something this soft it’d be fun to jib with, nope. First jib on it hit the up box and do a BS nose slide yep it bucked me off the box because its too torsionally soft. Hit the urban box and go into a tail press it folds in half and almost bucks me. Hit the flat box and do a BS board slide it bucked me again. It’s just too soft with rocker in a weird spot.
Rider in Mind: Someone that weighs nothing and can’t flex a WWW because they could with this board.
Personal Thoughts: This is by far the worst board I have ridden this season. I would like to cover it in lighter fluid and burn it so no one ever has to ride this thing ever. I would then piss on its ashes and bury them in a hole with nuclear waste. It’s a rushed rocker that didn’t have much thought put into it. DC claims this is a 6 in their flex scale. I’d say its more like a 2 with how soft it was.
Binding Compatibility: I had these dialed in from using them most of the day so it was a good time for me.
Binding Adjustability: You can adjust a K2 binding on the fly with no problems at all.
Straps: Love these straps they’re so cush.
Highbacks: Probably too stiff for this board but I like the way they match up with my boots and riding style.
Binding Flex: Definitely over powered the board.
Ratchets: Smooth like butter.
Rider in Mind: Solid all mountain freestylist that wants a stiffer highback on the outside for driving it through turns.
Personal Thoughts: Guess I’m going back to Unibody.
