Burton Se7en and P1 Grippers a closer look
The se7en has been around for a while and I remember when it came out. God that years version kicked some serious ass. I think its cool to try and ride the constant progression of a board you used to sell back in the day. The P1 speed zone bindings however can suck a nut.
Board: Burton Se7en
Size: 157
Bindings: Burton P1
Stance: 22
Angles: 18 negative 15
Boots: K2 T1 DB size 10
My Weight: 168
Resort: Keystone
Conditions: heavy wet snow coming down, little bit windy, and over cast to hell
Mindset: God speed zone bindings are a fucking joke I laugh at the thought of people buying them.
Tunes: Kix
Preconceived Notions: I know that this board has had some tech changes through the years. While they were setting it up I noticed the scoop tech in the nose which I didn’t realize it had.
Flex: More stable than the Love that’s for sure. Solid mid flex through and through.
Stability: Actually felt more stable on this than the other two.
Ollies/Pop: Omg the pop on this thing was amazing. Flatland cab 5′s and easily could have gone 7 if I pushed it. Off jumps this thing had some serious boost.
Butterability: This is the first time I actually think the scoop tech worked. It was super buttery when putting in the extra effort.
Cruising: Just as narrow as I remember it and easy enough to get it up on edge.
Jibbing: It locked on OK half the time the other time it was inconsistent. I wasn’t too down with it for straight up jibbing but it did get the job done.
Rider in Mind: The kid that wants to pop and charge the rest of the mountain.
Personal Thoughts: The scoop tech is a lot different than the others in their line that have it.
Binding Compatibility: If anything this binding underperformed for this board.
Binding Adjustability: I had initially wanted to try the P1 speed zone but as I found out those things suck balls and wouldn’t work with my boots so I went with the regular P1′s. Once again on the fly adjusting on the chairlift.
Straps: For it being a “Caddy” binding I didn’t think they were super great.
Highbacks: Did their job didn’t notice anything that stood out with them.
Binding Flex: Super predictable.
Ratchets: Easy on easy off.
Rider in Mind: The guy that’s more comfort than performance driven.
Personal Thoughts: I still remember the first year the P1′s came out and had like 485848 things for adjusting. We popped one of the switches to adjust them and it was wound so tight it popped off and flew across the shop, that was interesting. Frankly this binding sucks and was not for me.
