Burton Love and Lowback Customs
I decided to kick it oldschool and ride some vintage graphics on a binding that reminded me of something I might have owned back in the 90′s. Here’s my take on the whole experience.
Board: Burton Love
Size: 155
Bindings: Custom Lowbacks
Stance: Closer to 22.5 but still on the wider side of things
Angles: 18 negative 15
Boots: K2 T1 DB’s
My Weight: 168
Resort:Keystone
Conditions: On the warm side with heavy wet snow coming down and flat light
Mindset: Must narrow stance knees can’t take it.
Tunes: White Lion
Preconceived Notions: My buddy Paul loves this deck, he’s on his second one now. Figuring that back in the day he and I had similar tastes I’d probably enjoy this.
Flex: Really Soft through out.
Stability: It was ok but nothing to really rave about.
Ollies/Pop: Fairly ok I did have some fun with it on the jump line. I can see why Paul likes it for jumping, spinning was pretty effortless.
Butterability: I was having fun spinning this thing around on every variation of butter I could do.
Cruising: Not stable enough for me at speeds, but going from edge to edge was ok.
Jibbing: This thing locked in perfectly for jibs.
Rider in Mind: Lighter weight park kids.
Personal Thoughts: Too soft for me and my style of riding. I didn’t like the lack of dampening as well. Graphic was designed to sell boards.
Binding Compatibility: The customs flex seemed to be ideal for this deck.
Binding Adjustability: All quick on the fly adjustments, once again did these on the chair ride up.
Straps: The pressure on the Inner Navicular wasn’t as intense as on the Un Incs which was nice. The cut out in the toe strap is a solid move in the right way to get them to grip any boot.
Highbacks: More like a low back. Seriously reminded me of kicking it in the 90′s. Tweakability galore.
Binding Flex: Super soft but meshing well with the deck.
Ratchets: No issue with these they went on and did their job.
Rider in Mind: Those oldschool guys that still rave about the Morrow Lunch Tray.
Personal Thoughts: I can’t do lowbacks anymore technology has just advanced so much that I’ve moved past riding something like that.

Did you say lowbacks? That’s a joke! Those things went in and out of the industry as quickly as baseless bindings. What’s next? They’ll probably bring back the Burton Stumpy boots.
Actually the Stumpy boot is back.
