With this being the fourth Winter Olympics that allows snowboarding one can almost expect a rampant onslaught of opinions being voiced by so called “experts”. It gets even worse when they can exploit something that’s negative, anyone remember when Lindsey Jacobellis landed on her head and missed out on gold? This time around it’s not even something that’s remotely negative it’s a straight up tragedy that’s drawing out these would be experts into the limelight.
For those that don’t know Olympic hopeful Kevin Pearce double corked his dome in the half-pipe and was rushed to a Utah hospital where he was in critical condition. Well today one of the over fed jackals of the mainstream media descended on this story to offer their “expert” opinion on the situation. What could have been a truly poignant piece on the price snowboarders pay to progress and compete in the three ring circus that is the Olympics instead became a finger pointing blamefest. You can witness the video here.
The funny thing about this whole thing is the responses that it has generated from the various fellow shred heads. Rumorator took the direct approach to call out the bloated windbag that decided she knows more about snowboarding than real snowboarders and should project her view of it on to the world. While Mr. Todd Richards broke down and had a huge “twitfit” about it. To make things more enjoyable I’ve put Todd’s rant into one place for all to read as it’s well worth the time to read through it.
All the Media attention for Kevin pierce is amazing, but it seems like they are trying to label snowboarders as reckless and wacky again 2ct
Women saying “xtreme” sports to dangerous and they’re only for TV rating http://bit.ly/5MTdN9 Just like her ” reporting ”
abc doing some hack “reporting” on snowboarding and the progression of the sport. this just in, more people get worked trying to learn 360′s
it really pisses me off that these fools at abc call someone with no ties to what is actually happening in the sport to report facts.
call me, ill tell you whats up abc. shit, disney owns espn and abc , i work for espn, call someone that will give a real opinion. uuugh !
weird how abc doesnt have the olympics and nbc does. abc does story on how its all for ratings. yet abc airs x games ? ratings? hypcrcy
i havent been this worked up since george lucas tried to pass that piece of shit episode 1 as a part of star wars.
ding, whats this? an email from someone at espn? how coincidental…stay tuned
christine brennan you are a hack “reporter/consultant” that should actually get real opinions and facts before reporting on “extreme sports”
on a lighter note, here is the latest todcast with travis rice from paris…france not texas. enjoy…christine brennan can still eat it !
here is the deal on why i am le pissed about this abc fiasco: i think of myself as one of the creditable mouth pieces for snowboarding on tv
i really take pride in having snowboarding being shown with integrity to the masses. i may joke and be sarcastic at times but i am….
really protective of the sport that gave me a reason for being. how would a baseball player feel if i was suddenly a self proclaimed…
authority on what professional baseball players should be doing ? i would be strung up by my taint hairs..right ? im doing my job
Got to give Todd credit he really nailed this one on what’s wrong with what this women is saying. Here’s my two cents on the matter the woman obviously has some issue with ratings and the fact that she’s a consultant or what have you with a network that doesn’t host the Olympics. The funny thing is to generate ratings all one needs to do is stir up a bit of controversy and suddenly you’ll have a spike in people reading/watching what ever it is you’re doing. That’s exactly what she’s doing, as is ABC by not posting that video with the ability to embed it.
Now here’s something I propose to people who watch this video, every time the word extreme is uttered you need to take a shot of whiskey. You could play this game solo or with friends but either way you’re going to end up three sheets to the wind. The media really makes me laugh with how they throw buzz words around so much like it emphasizes the point they’re trying to make even more by going over board with its usage.
So who is this blowhard that feels she’s a so called “expert” on snowboarding? Well according to a little google magic she has a website and is an award winning sports columnist. Upon further inspection of her site I learned nothing about her so called “expert” knowledge of snowboarding. I did learn that she seems to like to stir up controversy with comments she makes, which as you can gather from what I mentioned above is what she is doing. Kudos to you for being a dumb wanker that talks out of your ass about something you know nothing about. At least if they had asked Todd about it he could comment from first hand experience as both a former Olympian and professional snowboarder. The mainstream media needs to step back from talking out of their ass with these hack job reporters that don’t know shit about snowboarding and put it back in the hands of those of us that eat, sleep, breath snowboarding.
So where does this leave me the voice of The Angry Snowboarder? Well seeing as I’m never one to refrain from pushing the buttons of people that are doing injustices to snowboarding I sent this tweet to Ms. Brennan “you know you really shouldn’t talk about snowboarding since you obviously have no first hand knowledge about it”. I’ll be patiently awaiting a respone from her to my statement. Till then I hope the positive vibes everyones sending to Kevin help him and he has a speedy recovery.

haha I sent her an email too. It never ceases to amaze me how news networks will find any twobit hack who wrote a second rate book that is only vaguely connected to the topic on hand and call them experts so that they can go on the air and push their crooked agenda.

jesus christ who gives a shit or has ever given a shit what the mainstream thinks of snowboarding

Yeah good job there buddy, lets let the mainstream media influence the people that keep the snowboard industry afloat. Lets have them convince Ma and Pa weekend warrior that parks are bad, that we’re reckless, that snowboarding shouldn’t be so “extreme”. Evidently you’re not from the generation that remembers being on separate runs from skiers or the great no air rule where if you ollied higher than the ski patrols knee you lost your ticket.

First off, vibes to KP. What shows her real disconnect with snowboarding is that she says that the IOC is the leader of the sport. And, that ratings and big-name competitions are the reason that snowboarding progresses. Snowboarding is about having fun and pushing yourself a little, whether that is doing double corks or just making it down a trail without falling.

that vid was awesome, i totally agree with her…banning tricks and asking the riders to catch less air is the perfect solution….HA! Great now my mom is going ask me not to do any more doublecorks. “Mainstream media still doesn’t get it” is the truth

Yeahh, wtf! Umm, obviously she had no clue what she talking about, snowboarding being a tv rating?!! Maybe the “extreme sport” of snowboarding is a lifestyle, an existence for some, but she obviously wouldn’t know that seeing how there is no evidence of snowboarding knowledge coming from her bullsh*t mouth! And I completely agree with everyone here except that nony mouse dudde, and props to you angry snowboarder for putting the truth out there!

I do remember the extreme anti-snowboard “rules” and they sucked, but you know what, if everybody listened and bent over and took it like a little bitch, snowboarding would have died out with the pioneers.
DON’T GIVE A FUCK was the best thing to ever happen to snowboarding!
Posted on January 6th, 2010 at 6:20 pm
How the fuck are they supposed to stop them from doing such “extreme” tricks?! The people who choose to do it all know the consequences of if something went wrong. Also, they want TV ratings to be good yet if some commission did limit them to what tricks they could do they wouldn’t let them do the tricks everybody wants to see the most. That lady is a huge pile of shit. And I agree that DON’T GIVE A FUCK was the best thing to ever happen to snowboarding.

I agree with her, it’s too extreme. We need to bring back a new variation of ski dancing, only on snowoboards. It would consist of butters, boxes, choreographed runs and even couples. It would be much safer for everybody. View for inspiration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=allh-pjXIn4&feature=PlayList&p=E9D9D46638BB88DC&index=0&playnext=1

hahahahhaa… parkcity that vid is freakin hilarious….. I don’t know how she doesn’t pop her knees out of socket every 5 seconds. I was certainly inspired, I was just waiting for sasquatch to come out of the trees and take her outttttttttttttt.

“speed, ice and youth” are what causes these extreeeeem sports injuries? how about every event in the olympics then? this is the winter olympics after all, pretty sure ice, speed and youth are primary in almost all events. how many times have downhill skiers wiped out? and if we include preliminary events and training as kevins injury happened, skiing is practically setting yourself up for broken limbs and possibly death. as we going to have to change every sport? if it was easy without risk, why the hell would people do it? wishing all the best for kevin.

penalties should now be given by the IOC for breaking world records in any sport … pushing the envelope is dangerous!
