Parkumentary: Know Your Roots

Posted by Angrysnowboarder On November - 23 - 2009

When you think about park progression there’s one place that should always remain the true mecca of freestyle snow sliding. A place that has created common park features that are used world wide like the “box”. Bear Mountain definitely solidifies itself as the grandfather of creativity and forward thinking progressive park features and for that anyone that has ever ventured into an orange pill area owes them a debt of gratitude.

Parkumentary takes us for a brisk jaunt down memory lane showcasing not only the progression over the last twenty years but also the riders that have gone to Bear for various events and movie/photo shoots. To think that a little hill in Brocal could become an area that is renowned for producing insane riders and even crazier park features goes to show that geographical location is not all that it’s cracked up to be. The biggest thing to note is how open they were with snowboarding and creating a park from the early freestyle focus.

As Pat “The Eye” Bridges says when interviewed for this film Bear Mountain is continuously 4 years ahead of the game, I would have to agree. Look at pictures of the new features they had up for Hot Dawgz and Handrails and you can see what’s up. Sunday in the park video’s are another example of being ahead of the times. How many parks are now doing video’s like that to play catch up to what Bear started?

So if you’re a park rider take a moment to say thank you to Bear for giving terrain parks world wide a template for progression to follow. Thank you Bear for having a huge part in the history of snowboarding. If you’re a park rider this one little resort should be on your top 5 list of parks to shred before you venture on to the great powdery white unknown.

this is sick! I still remember as I was just beginning to ride watching the mack dawg movies of the late 90′s early 2000′s with all the footage at snow summit. Def. would love to make it to big bear someday!
