This interview had originally started out as being a part of this past summer Their Take series. Shit happens and things come up that altered when and what this interview was about. So instead of it being a belated Their Take we get Matty Ryan talking about his new company, what it would take for him to quit snowboarding, and sponsors. Here are the words of one of the snowboardings real pro snowboarders. No glitz, no glamour, and no bull shit.

The economy sucks everyone knows this, it’s a tough time to be launching a brand what adversities do you potentially see?
Not trying to be a smart ass but i don’t really know what adversities means but I’m gonna assume it has something to do with advertising and if so we only support the small mags right now cause they are back’in us the hardest and there just out there trying to do the same thing we are. And the ad space is free.
With all the bull shit that comes with being a rider is putting control in your hands going to change a lot of the issues you guys have dealt with in the last few years?
Yea kinda, I feel a lot more confident in doing what I wanna do now that we have Bozwreck. Cause fuck man, Ive been through all the bullshit with sponsors and you should do this, you should do that! But now I own a fucking business and I feel that if I’ve accomplished that I mean I’m a fucking grown up now and does what I likes and likes what I do!

How receptive is the mass media (not us little guys) being with you right now? Would you say they make it a bit tougher to get your message out or are they being a lot more supportive to promote a small brand?
I would say for how small we are we have come a long way as far as people knowing what we are all about and to me it seems like a handful of kids are backing what me and Nate are doing so we are gonna keep things rollin. And it just comes down to us loving snowboarding man, I mean fuck we get sidetracked but whatever that don’t change that we have fun when everything works out and we are all just shredding. But to get back to the question yea I think we have a fair amount of people supporting us which is cool and much appreciated but also you always got the homies that you can sense want you to fail. So whatever we just do what we do.
You guys are established riders, but who else can we see on the Bozwreck program, and with all you’ve been through are we going to see a bunch of up and comers graduating from the Bozwreck School of Shred?
We recently got a grip of homies riding the boards so I’m hyped to work on some sort of established team but until we can pay fools for right now it’s a family affair of homies that are just down for Bozwreck. But if you want names,we got Eric Messier, Chris Demolski, Chris Eacott from down under, Joel Mahaffey for legend status, always liked that dude. Antho Herren, Aaron Brimhall, Timmy Ronan and up and coming SLCers. And me and Nate. I’m probably forgetting someone, so sorry.

What’s your take on how the industry pushes out older riders to replace them with the current flavor of the season? Should companies man up and keep the older guys around to mentor the next generation?
I just don’t think snowboarding will ever get it when it comes to that topic. That’s why Bozwreck was created.
With the plethora of companies on the market right now, to the point of over saturation, would you say there’s a need to have more companies that are raw and gritty, ones that take a do it yourself mentality?
Duh!
I’ve had a few emails about where people can find one of your decks, I know you’ll be launching the online store this fall, but will there be any shops that are down for the cause that should get a mention?
Milosport in SLC. and bozwreck.myshopify.com
What can you tell the readers about your decks construction and specs, there’s some curious people out there?
Best boards I’ve ever ridden the day we stop making Bozwreck boards is the day I quit snowboarding.
What’s your take on the abundance of reverse cambered decks on the market? Going to have that as an option this season or saving it for the future?
Never tried one, don’t care to.
If people get one thing out of what Bozwreck is doing what would you hope it is?
We are doing it for the sake of snowboarding. Knowing that we are trying to change shit for the better.
