The Death of Sierra Snowboard and Its Repercussions

Posted by Angrysnowboarder On September - 6 - 2010

As many people have known I’ve followed what has been going on with Sierra Snowboards in regards to the snowboard industry, its business practices, and how this was all going to pan out. Initially it started with Burton Snowboards along with a few others pulling out from them, then it lead to rumors of imminent chapter 11 status as a way to cock block Burton from getting paid up front for their product, and now most recently some new developments have arisen in the form of Michael Horrosh the owner filing a motion to move the bankruptcy from chapter 11 bankruptcy (reorganization) to chapter 7 (liquidation). Selling Out or Cashing In?

Posted by Angrysnowboarder On September - 2 - 2010

Popularity and the mainstream always seem to draw a slight disdain from anyone that has been a part of something that started out small. That remains true with snowboarding, whether it’s a company or a rider we start to label popularity and mainstream successes with selling out. But what if that popularity that we see as selling out is just them cashing in? Read the rest of this entry »

Grease In The East

Posted by Angrysnowboarder On June - 2 - 2010

If you live in New York City or the outlying areas then you’re probably familiar with the bus tour groups they have that take skiers and snowboarders from the city to either Vermont or Hunter mountain. For some this is the only option to get out of the city and ride without shelling out the big bucks and flying westward or commuting up into New England. Two lifelong snowboarders who currently reside in the city have come up with an idea that would bring both environmentally friendly options and a new bus tour system to the Big Apple. But there’s one hitch these two need your help to get there. Read the rest of this entry »

Where’s The Style?

Posted by Angrysnowboarder On May - 20 - 2010

The level of riding today has gotten insane with how many spins and flips people are adding to their repoitoire of tricks. For a while it seemed that snowboarding had stagnated with progressive tricks and then poof it was reignited with double this and triple tractor truck driver that. Then we had the rocker revolution which brought about the saying everything that is old is new again. Yeah well someone needed to tell people that shouldn’t have applied to style. Origins of Gaper Day

Posted by Angrysnowboarder On March - 31 - 2010

Tomorrow is one of the single best days of the year for all resort town people whether it’s the minimum wage snow carnies or the bitter local that is officially “over it”. Yes that’s right I’m talking about Gaper Day or April first. A day for all resort town folks to venture out and celebrate yet another wondrous season. Read the rest of this entry »

The Dying Guard

Posted by Angrysnowboarder On March - 5 - 2010

Chances are if you weren’t shredding in the 90′s or as some have called it “The Golden Age” of snowboarding you probably have never bore witness to The Old Guard. That closed minded group that was still making sure to hold on to the feud between skiers and snowboarders. They were the ones that still felt the urge to let it be known we had no place on the mountain. Read the rest of this entry »

Weather Dependent Ticket Prices

Posted by Angrysnowboarder On March - 2 - 2010

Unless you’re earning your turns you’re part of the pay to play group that is the majority of snowboarding. It’s almost as certain as death and taxes that lift ticket prices are going to go up. It’s also a guarantee that mother nature makes us her bitch with how she decides to disperse the white fluffy goodness across the globe. Read the rest of this entry »

What Have The Olympics Done For Us?

Posted by Angrysnowboarder On February - 17 - 2010

We don’t need the Olympics! I’m talking the collective we as a culture, the one that has let the riders drive the companies, trends, and progression. We were the ones that hiked up golf courses before ski resorts let us, we were the ones that tinkered in our garages, we were the ones that were too busy having fun instead of being judged by an international committee. SIA Day Three

Posted by Angrysnowboarder On January - 31 - 2010

Saturday was definitely a long day for many as was evident with the herds of slow moving buyers and other industry people. Perhaps it was the long night of partying at the Transworld Riders Poll or maybe the fact that doing a bump of blow off a strippers ass just wasn’t as common place as years in the past. Who really knows? Read the rest of this entry »

SIA Day Two

Posted by Angrysnowboarder On January - 29 - 2010

In typical SIA fashion day two usually starts out a bit more mellow. With stories pouring in about how Burton took over Diamond Cabaret you could see the after effects on some of those that were not used to throwing down. While others seemed to have forgone going out and drowning the woes of broshakes and false promises by remaining sober and on top of things. Read the rest of this entry »
