686 Strike Jacket Used and Reviewed
Three in one options? How about four in one options? Yes that’s what this jacket offers with it’s zip out/in vest. Part of the original Smarty line you can guarantee this jacket and vest combo has options and warmth with it. Here’s what our tester had to say about it.
Garment: 686 Strike Jacket
Resort: Breck, Keystone, Copper, and A Basin
Conditions: Everything from sunny preseason warm days to cold and blustery winds.
Fit: Slightly bulkier which gives it a bit of room to layer underneath.
Stitching: Full taped seams that didn’t have any fraying. On the bottom though one side of the waist cinch seems to be cut off as if it has been sewn together.
Pockets: The pass holder on the sleeve is real nice for ease of showing it, the internal audio pocket with the external entry is an added bonus, add to that a plethora of other pockets like the vest and jacket chest, and front zip pockets.
Zippers: Smooth as butter and with solid storm flaps.
Venting: Single zipper pit vents gave it optimal air flow.
Special/Hidden Features: SOS sleeve mirror, zip and hide powder skirt, 4 in 1 options between the vest and the breath right face cover.
Rider in Mind: Technical rider that wants a lot of pockets and fit options.
Personal Thoughts: I’m in love with this jacket and the detachable vest makes it so much more versatile. Possibly the warmest jacket I’ve worn in years which speaks volumes because I’m from Utah and Colorado is far colder than what I’m used to. The hidden extra features are beneficial and not stupid shit that doesn’t work.
What They Say: Smarty is 686’s most popular and established collection, setting the standard for the outerwear industry. Smarty offers three levels of performance – 20K, 15K and 10K, each of which features the world-renowned SMARTY technology de- tachable lining system. With SMARTY, you have the option to wear the liner for extra insulation and warmth on the hill or by itself for when you’re chilling indoors.
