Binding Model: Bent Metal Transfer
Binding Size: Med
Stance and Angles: Goofy, 21in wide, 15/-3
Board Used: Signal Yup 157.5
Boot Used: Ride
Boot Size: 8
Rider Weight: 155lbs
Conditions: Closing day late spring awesomeness. Warm chunder snow with sunny bluebird skies.
Binding Adjustability: The heelcup slides into the frame and has 3 positions to sit in. Loosen the ankle bolts, slide it where you need it, tighten back down. The straps are both on tool-less bolts, spin them out, adjust, spin them back in.
Straps: The ankle strap is thin foam with a plastic outer skeleton. It’s shaped well and has the right amount of give and support to get the job done. The toe strap is simple and effective. Just your basic split toe. It fits over just about any toebox, clamps tight, and stays put.
Ratchets: They have a nice solid in-hand feel. They ratchet, they release.
Highbacks: Bent Metal calls it an “Engineered Polymer Highback”. I don’t have a clue what that means, but it felt like your average mid flex highback. It has a really nice cupped shape to it that helps keep the structure behind your boot so it’s always ready when you need it.
Binding Flex: Just above a mid flex overall. Mid stiff drive plate, mid stiff highback, mid flex straps, and the aluminium heelcups.
Ride: Drive plates are sweet. They’re the frame covers you stand on, made by Mervin near Canada. The plates in the Transfers are sandwich construction with magnesium fibers to create a just above mid flexing feel under foot. They ride smooth.
Rider in Mind: Doing everything. Great binding for a one board quiver style deck, or park boards, or your average all mountain deck.
Personal Thoughts: This binding felt so natural underneath me. These are bindings I would like to own. I can put them on just about any board I own and they’ll do what I need them to. And Drive Plates are sick! Every now and then you get a company that puts out something that actually makes a difference in feel. These do.
