Board: Rome Sawtooth
Camber Option: Free-the-Ride camber. Rocker in the nose, flat under the front foot, and finally camber under the back.
Bindings: K2 Lien AT
Stance: 21.5 Wide 18 Negative 15 Goofy
Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10
My Weight: 177lbs
Resort: Arapahoe Basin
Conditions: Sunny skies, warm spring temps, about a half a foot of snow or more that was thick and heavy, and a bit of wind.
Flex: This board has a unique flex that puts it between middle of the road and stiff freeride deck. Taking in the camber profile and directional shape you start off with a slightly softer nose that drastically stiffens up as you get closer to the front binding, and then the mid section to the tail is stiffer. The torsional flex is there but isn’t highly abundant.
Stability: This board is designed to be stable whether you’re on a groomer or riding through a wind strewn broken cornice full of death slabs. You can run over anything and not feel it.
Ollies/Pop: The rear foot camber gives a unique pop off side hits, rollers, and any other feature you hit. Loading it up takes next to no effort, but the harder you push into it the more snap you get.
Butterability: I wouldn’t say it’s the most butterable board on the planet, but if you really want to do it you can make it happen. Just go fast and use more muscle than you think.
Carving: Initiating this board on edge takes little to no effort, it’s at home carving. When railing hard turns you have to make sure to engage the rear foot camber to push the board through the apex of the turn. I found that the board did want to fight me a bit when doing Euro-carves which just made the ride that much more aggressive.
Rider in Mind: Someone that’s charging powder, groomers, and even tree runs all the time.
Personal Thoughts: This board was fun for cruising through the heavy snow. The tip shape really cut through the heavier fresh snow we had gotten and made it ride like a surfboard. Over all this deck is like a quiver killer for a weekend warrior that’s on the quest for powder.
