2017 Ride Machete Snowboard Review

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On July 29, 2016

Board: Ride Machete

Size: 158

Camber Option: The LowRize. Nearly flat underfoot and past the inserts to minimal rocker in the tips.

Bindings: K2 Indy

Stance: 22.5 Wide 18 Negative 15 Goofy

Boots: K2 T1DB Size 10

My Weight: 175lbs

Resort: Breckenridge

Conditions: Fresh firm corduroy, sunny skies, and brisk temperatures.

Flex: The area with the most flex is in the tips where the rocker is located and then it stiffens up through the middle. There’s also a fair bit of torsional rebound due to the stiffer flex.

Stability: This board is stable. That has to due with the all the carbon. You can ride through varying terrain and it just absorbs the chatter with ease.

Ollies: This board is built to ollie. You have two options for snap with this board, load the tail and get the most out of it, or be lazy and initiate it at the last minute like you would on a skateboard.

Pop On Jumps: The stability of this board only adds to its ability to take on bigger jumps. Never fear a medium to large jump on this deck.

Butterability: The flex pattern really makes you work to butter the muffin. By and large though this board can butter if you hit the sweet spot right at the rocker zone.

Jibbing: The best way to jib on this is keep it basic and go fast. The flex and carbon make it want to rebound out of presses. Just keep your weight centered over the board and you will be golden.

Carving: Short tight turns are not a problem, nor are long drawn out carves. This board wants to turn and turn hard. Railing turns is super fun as you can drive the center of the board through the arc.

Rider in Mind: The consummate all mountain freestyle rider that will dabble in the park as well as go ride through some trees and rip some turns on some groomers.

Personal Thoughts: The Machete is a versatile weapon and reminiscent of the time when Ride introduced Pop Rods to their decks. The snap and rebound is amazing in this board.

For an all around one board quiver. Ride machete VS Yes typo VS Salomon assassin?

Machete is the softest of those three with the Typo and Assassin be close to each other. Typo has a set back which makes it more versatile for all mountain use if you’re riding powder. Personally I would go Typo but that’s me.

    Hi Angry

What board do you recommend between the machete ride and the k2 raygun for an all mountain intermediate profile ?

If you’re more park leaning go with the Machete if it’s more freeride go with the Raygun.

Hey Angry, I really appreciate all the work you have done here. I’m wondering how this compares to the Craft-mainly in the areas of pop and stability.

Stability they’re interchangeable. Craft has more snap.

Hey Angry -I’m an advanced rider. Looking for the best all mountain board geared more to riding groomers and ripping through trees, but also spending a little time in the park. How would you compare this deck to the Capita Mercury? Anything better out there? Also, I’m 5’7″ 155lbs, so size suggestions also appreciated. Thanks.

It’s softer, more freestyle oriented, and not what you’re looking for. For what you’re asking of a board you should be looking more at an all mountain freeride board instead of an all mountain freestyle.

Ok. So is the Mercury the right board for that?

No, I think something more like a Jones Flagship.

My man angry! What’s good bud. Just sold my kink. Super fun board. Debating to go back to machete or try to warpig. How do u compare the too. I’m strictly on grommers, charging, bombing and buttering around. Never do park or jumps. Occasionally I see 6-12 inches of snow barely ever.

You would be better off with the Warpig if you’re not going in the park ever. But if you’re hung up on Ride perhaps a Wildlife or Berzerker would suit you better.
