Board: Jones Explorer
Camber Option: Camrocker. Camber underfoot rocker in the tips.
Bindings: K2 Indy
Stance: 21.5 Wide 18 Negative 15 Goofy
Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10
My Weight: 177lbs
Resort: Arapahoe Basin
Conditions: Sunny bluebird skies, above average warm temperatures, snow that was a mix of being perfect hero conditions to mashed potatoes.
Flex: This board is just a hair above a middle of the road flex from the back foot forward and just a bit stiffer in the tail. There’s an abundance of torsional give as well which makes it very playful.
Stability: Surprisingly this board was stable from the front foot back, while very playful in the tip. This is due to the directional rocker in it as well as the flex pattern. The board is lively but not damp in any way so you do feel a lot of the variations in the snow.
Ollies: Load it up and boost. I sent my normal first side hit of the day three times as far as I have with any other board. I attribute this to the weight of the board coupled with the camber profile and flex. This board can boost with the greatest of ease.
Pop On Jumps: Jumps are no problem on this board, you can really load up and pop if you need to.
Butterability: Surprisingly this board butters really well. The nose has a lot of flex in it so if you pop a 180 into a ground press it does wonders, while just riding around doing high speed tail slappy’s and wheelies was easy.
Jibbing: I wouldn’t say it’s the best jibbing board out there but it gets the job done. Nose presses are easy and it will slide a rail.
Carving: Ripping super aggressive laid out Euro-carves was a dream on this board. Getting so low your knees are hitting the ground while you drag your arm pit is just a blast.
Rider in Mind: The do it all guy that wants a very performance/tech driven snowboard.
Personal Thoughts: The name Explorer aptly fits this board. It went out to find the goods and get them. I spent a lot of hot laps just ripping side hits, bonking trees, and popping off rollers while throwing carves in between.
Comparable Boards: Burton Custom Mystery, Rossignol Krypto, Ride Berzerker
