Binding Model: Fix Winslow
Binding Size: Medium
Stance and Angles: Goofy, 21in wide, 12/-6
Board Used: Niche Aether 156
Boot Used: Ride Fuse
Boot Size: 8
Rider Weight: 155lbs
Conditions: Early spring after a good dumping.
Binding Adjustability: Everything is tool less. The straps are on flip cams that though stiff to pop, are super secure. The straps have an upper and lower position in the frame. You adjust it by pushing the strap into the frame and sliding it up or down into the slot and pulling back up. The straps need deeper room to do this though, I could not get it them pushed down far enough to get them into the higher position. The highback rotation is done similarly but there has been enough room provided for this. It’s still not the easiest adjustment to make, but with some tweaks it will be a lot easier to make the adjustments and it is a smart system.
Straps: The toe strap held my boot well and strapped down firmly. It’s a little bulky compared to what else is out there, but it didn’t present any issues. The ankle strap was very loose feeling in the lower position, based on how much of an improvement moving the straps into the upper position made on the Truce and EPK I assume the same would be said for the Winslows if the straps could get there.
Ratchets: Once the ratchets pop they release smooth, it just takes a little bit of effort to get to pop. Plenty of crank with a secure feeling and stiff retention spring.
Highbacks: It’s a flatter shape that offers some freedom side to side. It’s a little softer torsionally but still stiff and responsive straight back.
Binding Flex: A little above mid flex in the frame. Just enough flex to keep it playful in the park but still more of an all mountain response.
Ride: There is an integrated firm rubber gasket under the frame that offers some good dampening and chatter soak. That and the full eva footbed provide a smooth ride with pretty good landing gear on both rails and jumps.
Rider in Mind: All mountain freestyle rider hitting everything in their way like a park feature.
Personal Thoughts: It was disappointing that I couldn’t get the ankle straps into the higher position. And in my opinion the lower position doesn’t even feel necessary. It just sits so low on the foot, I can’t imagine it being comfortable for any foot shape and with it not pulling your foot back really at all it just doesn’t feel very secure. Other than that the binding was really quite good and performed well.
