Board Interior Plain Project Honalee
Size: 154
Camber Option: 9mm Camber. Traditional Camber.
Bindings: K2 Indy
Stance: 22.5 Wide 18 Negative 15 Goofy
Boots: K2 T1 DB Size 10
My Weight: 170lbs
Resort: Breckenridge
Conditions: Mix of sun and clouds with a little bit of wind and temps in the mid 30’s. A storm moved in near the end of the day drowning out the sun and causing a lack of visibility.
Flex: This board is the snappier one of the Interior Plains Project offerings. This board has a stiffer nose and tail to the start of the inserts, then it softens up from there through the dead middle. The torsional give matches the flex between the inserts. Over all it’s a snappy slightly stiffer middle of the road flex.
Stability: Never once did I feel chatter in this board or that I was going to get bucked. Whether charging hard down a groomer, through a mogul field, in the trees, or through left over powder stashes. This board is lively and poppy, but that liveliness isn’t sacrificed by being overly damp.
Ollies: There’s a carbon strip in the tip and tail from the beginning of the inserts to the end of the tips. This coupled with the elongated tip shape give this board snap. You want to pop? Then by all means send it to the moon! I spent the whole day boosting side hits, popping rollers, and flying off cat tracks.
Pop On Jumps: Much like the Harrow I found myself over shooting jumps with ease due to the pop of this board. This deck unlike it’s counterpart though has even more snap making it more of a bigger jump board.
Butterability: This tip shape is one of my favorites, it really lets you get out on it and play around. While the board does have a carbon strip in the tip, I found that it didn’t overly snap back when I was playing around on the tips. This made for a smooth ground butter that had rebound out of the tricks.
Jibbing: You do have to be on point to land in a press with this deck. If you didn’t lock in perfectly you weren’t getting a solid nose or tail press. Board slides were great as traditional camber just locks in so perfectly. Over all this board commands respect on the jibs as you want to do everything proper.
Carving: Ripping hard aggressive turns was fun with this board, but what I found even more fun were short tight turns that I sprung out of due to the snap in the tail. This board carves like a dream and after sending cat track gaps deep I would rail hard Euro inspired turns much to the chagrin of my party.
Rider in Mind: The guy that loves traditional camber and a board that is super lively.
Personal Thoughts: If I had a hard time putting down the Harrow, I nearly cried knowing I was going to have to leave the Honalee. This board is on par with decks like the Rome Mod. It’s fast, lively, aggressive when you need it, and a board that can do it all. Whether I was hitting log jibs, slashing pow, or jumping off a cat track or park jump it never faltered. The praise for this board and this brand runs high. I strongly suggest you get one.

[…] 2016 model but with different graphics according to Angrysnowboarder. Here is the review by Angry 2016 Interior Plain Project Honalee Snowboard Review – The Angry Snowboarder If you have any questions, please feel free to message me. […]
Does the flex on this compare to a Mod camber? How would you say this stacks up to Arbor’s medium flex, a lot more stable?
Thanks!
I would put it comparable to the Mod Camber, Arbors mid flex park decks like the Westmark or the Relapse. The board is super stable.
Thanks dude. How does it stack up with the Element / Coda?
It’s a little different since those two boards are center reverse (yes you can get a Coda camber). I honestly think it’s a better board.
Looking at the 13/14 models of both Honalee and Harrow. Any significant upgrades in the last two years I should consider? Honestly, I just dig the graphics better on the 13/14 than the 2015 or 2016 if there haven’t been upgrades I shouldn’t miss out on. But I’m a big asker of questions and an indecisive buyer so open to your insight. I spent more time reading your reviews today at work than doing actual said work. Appreciate it!
Pretty sure the 13/14 ones were built in a different factory than the newer ones.
Yea i read that they’re now being built at the Capita factory. Just curious if its worth the extra $200+ for the latest models built in the Capita factory or if I can pocket that cash for new bindings? Thanks, again.
I honestly can’t tell you about the 13/14, but I can tell you that the stuff made at the Capita factory is some of the best in the world. Normally I would say save the cash, but in this instance I think it’s worth paying more.
Had a feeling that might be the case, ha. Last two questions for you… I’m 5-7″ between 135-145lbs. Leaning more towards the Harrow, think the 147 or 152 would be best? I like maneuverability but also don’t want to compromise continuing to be able to progress on the board if its too short. Lastly, binding recommendation?
Literally just saw and read your review of the Harrow. Awesome stuff, man. Really appreciate your help.
47 if you want to do more butters, play around, really flick the board through spins, and jib the fuck out of it. 52 if you’re all “YEE HAW!” then hit the big line, power ollie off small children, and will probably jump off a chairlift.
As far as bindings I’d recommend something middle of the road. I’m a HUGE fan of the K2 line of stuff like the Formula or the Lien FS or At. You could even check out the Rome 390 Boss or Katana.
Hi,
I come from italy and i want to do a question about the honalee .I m about 82kg and i want to buy honalee size 158.
I m afraid that its very difficult for me. I do snowboarding for 4years and last year i used slash atv and i afraid that the honalee is more difficult about its 9mm camber. Please can you help me? I love to go in all-mountain boards to slope and powder. Thanks so much!!
If you’re a strong rider you will be fine.
Angry, I’ve narrowed it down to the 158 Honalee, 159 Rome Mod Rocker and the 158 Arbor Coda. Looking for someone to be the split vote? I’m 6’1″, 210, all men freestyler that loves to balls out, all mountain charge.
All mtn and charger…. F#%€n auto correct
Here’s how I would break it down. Honalee if you want camber otherwise if you want rocker the Mod takes the cake. The Coda is good but I think the Honalee and Mod Rocker beat it out.
Thanks Angry, that was the conclusion I’d pretty much come to, I’ll be checking them both out and choosing one or the other ( Honalee vs Mod). Just want to have both in hand and check the flex.
The rocker will feel softer, better comparison is Mod camber to the Honalee.
Little offtopic because i just bought a Honalee red this thread again and saw you writing about the K2 Lien FS or AT.
Is there a big difference between the FS and the AT?
Could get last years FS or AT for a pretty good price. Any mayor changes this year to your knowledge?
Thx,
Q.
Google holds the answer to the mystery of if you can find the Lien for a good price, I do not. The stiffness is the biggest difference and couldn’t tell you if there is or isn’t a difference between this years and last.
ok thx. yeah on google i mainly find the usual marketing blah blah. is the different stiffness only concerning the highback or the whole binding? i found it fpr 120€ which is about 130$ i think thats ok for last years at model. cheers.
It’s the whole binding. It’s something to do with the amount of nylon or composite in the base that makes the AT stiffer than the FS.
ok thanks that helps!
last question:
what do you think which binding would compliment the honalee 158 better…
fs or at?
Depends. If you want to go more surfy get the FS if you want to be more cocked, locked, and ready to rock get the AT.
ok i think then for me the AT version makes more sense with that board.
Thanks again!
[…] Honorable mentions: Arbor Coda and Interior Plain Project Honalee. […]
What’s up man, curious on the flex on both this and the harrow. If you had to give ithem each a number between 1 and 10 what would you say? My current daily driver is way stiff and I want something that’s more middle of the road to fill the void. Appreciate your time.
Numbers are bullshit. It’s a hair past middle of the road stiffness.
Lol fair enough. I get that. What about the flex on the harrow?
The Harrow is softer than the Honalee more of a easier flexing middle of the road flex, that once it breaks in becomes a soft flexing deck, while the Honalee once it breaks in will flex more like the Harrow did on the first day you had it.
Hi, love the site, best board reviews I’ve found anywhere. Reading through your reviews it seems like the Honalee and Rome Mod follow similar philosophies. Is there one you’d favour over the other? I have size 11 boots, do you think I could get away with it on either? I think the WW on the Mod is 5mm wider. Thanks again for the great reviews.
If you’re talking personally, I own a Honalee 154. The Mod is a tad wider especially in the 159 and 162 sizes.
hi Angry, here’s a challenge for you: i’m a 43 y/o Israeli. most of us start boarding when well into our 20’s (total lack of local snow will do that to a man) – and typically we board once a year for a week (your typical Austrian or French week long travel package). So the scarcity of time + late starting age means we mostly avoid parks like the plague – for fear of wasting precious little snow time + fear of getting hurt when starting out older… Most Israeli chaps who think they can board like bad asses basically go hard and fast doing skid turn down the slopes, nothing too impressive.
BUT.
In the past few years i really improved my ride. i try to ride a lot of Goofy to improve control, i’ve finally learned to carve a proper line, and have also mildly “grown a pair” and get into the parks and hit some kickers and rails. i’ve been riding a Never Summer SL for all mountain – it’s light and fast but has shitty pop, and doesn’t hold a good carve with it’s rocker profile. To improve my park ride i rode a K2 WWW for a couple of years (the 2013 flat base model) – it was great for buttering and rails but not stable on fast pistes and had very little pop, plus was a nightmare in pow (sold it).
SO…here’s the challenge
it’s probably hard for someone who can get out at Breck whenever he wants to get into this mindset, but i read your reviews of the Mod Rocker and the Honalee, and also SBM goodwood on the Capita Mercury and seek your advice, knowing the profile: If i need to rank my priorities, they are like so:
– charge down groomers faster than the other dudes, with a stable ride and good to great carving ability, particularly on the heel
– park kickers
– park rails and boxes
– easy to ride and land switch
– no slouch in powder, because once in a while your yearly trips happens to magically aligns with a snow storm, so i don’t want to be out there killing my back leg trying to stay afloat.
So, which one of the 3 would you go with? i’m 6′, 185lbs.
thanks, appreciate your take!!
The Mod Rocker will be the best profile for what you’re asking for. It’ll have the most versatility of those three decks.
Thanks! Size suggestions?
56 if you want more for playing around the whole mountain, 58/59 for more charging.
Thx!

Hey,
Really enjoy the site & reviews… definitely unique – in a good way.
A few questions:
Other than graphics, are there any differences that you know of between this year model and last year’s?
Is this at all comparable to the Salomon’so Man’should Board?
Thanks
No differences other than graphics. Man’s Board is stiffer.
Thanks for speedy response. I think I’ll go with the Honalee. First camber board since ’09
Hey,
Which bindings would you recommend with the Honalee? I saw you used the K2 Indys – how are those as bindings.
I’m basically looking for binding recommendations
I personally like a meat and potato binding which is what the Indy is. It’s cheap, it has no frills, and it gets the job done. I would say if you’re looking for something that matches the Honalee look at the K2 Formula, Rome Katana or 390 Boss, Salomon District or Hologram, Ride Capo, Now Ipo, and the Burton Cartel.
Hey angry, I’m thinking of buying a 150 honalee I’m 5’9 150 pound size 11 boot, chucking some katanas on it aswell, plan on spending most of my time in the air and getting sore knees. should I finalise this payment and be the happiest bloke in the world?
Going to be a tight fit with a size 11 hoof.
mmmmm, might have to squeeze into my 10.5s
They have a wide board coming out next season.
