The Supernatant is new for 2015. This board is the culmination of longtime DC Snowboards rider Devun Walshes need for a board that can power through the backcountry. Micro camber, a directional flex and shape, coupled with a pointy nose, you can guarantee this board slays powder!
Board: DC Supernatant
Camber Option: Micro Camber. This is DC’s version of the flattened out camber that has replaced traditional camber. So camber in front of the inserts to the upkick and flat from insert pack to insert pack.
Bindings: K2 Formula
Stance: 22.5 Wide 18 Negative 15 Goofy
Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10
My Weight: 175lbs
Conditions: Mix of cloud and sun, high winds, and 5 plus inches of snow on top of serious crust.
Flex: Would this be a stiff board for park? Sure, but in terms of all mountain freestyle it’s actually rather soft. The middle of the board has the most abundance of flex with the nose only being slightly stiffer, the tail is where the stiffest flex is.
Stability: The directional flex does cause for more vibrations in the nose than the tail and with the way this board is built it’s not designed to dampen the ride. This makes for a lively feel. Expect to feel any variation in the terrain.
Ollies/Pop: This board is designed to pop off rollers, pow pillows, moguls, side hits, and everything in between. The amount of snap out of the tail is highly abundant making this a popping machine.
Butterability: Slow speed butters are not its strong suit, but high speed you’re golden. Just be prepared to work for it due to the camber profile.
Carving: Railing turns takes little to no effort. This board transitions from edge to edge with ease. Hard carves are easily initiated and driven from the center of the board.
Rider in Mind: Someone that will play in the powder and maybe occasionally jaunt through the park.
Personal Thoughts: This board really blew me away with how much fun it was and how versatile it could be. Whether ripping tight trees at high speeds or blasting through mid thigh deep snow it just wanted to take it all one. The pop out of the tail is immense and you can send it off any type of feature.
