The Idol is the board of choice of Salomon Backcountry vixen Annie Boulanger. This means that those ladies looking to ride all over should probably check out another deck unless they’re some kind of giant Tundra Wookiee. Here is what Zara had to say about this stick.
Board: Salomon Idol
Size: 150
Camber Option: Cross Profile. Camber between the feet with rocker in the tips.
Bindings: Salomon Absolute Pure
Stance: 21 Inches Wide 15 Negative 15 Regular
Boots: Salomon Kianna Size 6
My Weight: 148
Resort: Breckenridge
Conditions: Sun and crisp fresh groomers.
Flex: Saying this board is stiff is an understatement. This board is designed for hard charging and the flex mirrors that. The torsional give is minimal as well as the flex in the tips.
Stability: You could run over an elk in this and not feel it. The board is stable due to its flex pattern and camber profile.
Ollies: You have to work hard to get pop out of this deck. The flex coupled with the camber makes it tough.
Pop On Jumps: It takes a bit of a leg work out on the take off, but is confident and solid on the landing.
Butterability: Not happening. Just give up on the idea this will butter unless you are a burly mountain woman.
Jibbing: I would not recommend it. This board is meant for B.C. freestyle
Carving: This board was made for fast turns on a variety of terrain with its stiffer flex and excellent stability. When the terrain gets steep and the going gets fast, there isn’t anything to worry about.
Rider in Mind: This is board would be for the lady riding the steep and deep. There is no time for the park when light speed needs to be achieved on this snowboard. The directional nose still allows a nice float in the fluffy stuff while its true to camber profile will hold any type of ice pack. A good solid carver.
Personal Thoughts: Not going to lie, before I got the Idol over into the steeper parts of the mountain… I brought it into Park Lane. I was terrified. There was no playfulness on a park features what so ever. I just maintained my speed and hoped for the best. It redeemed itself when I did get over to the diamonds and got to have some fun carving. I really enjoyed its feel and solid handle on the snow.
