2014 Salomon Gypsy Snowboard Used and Reviewed

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On August 28, 2013

Adding women’s reviews this year was new to us and we weren’t sure how it was going to go over. It seems like it’s been a smashing success and knowing that there has to be one deck that sticks out we let Zara choose her favorite. It comes as no surprise that the Salomon Gypsy was her snowboard of choice.

Best Women

Board: Salomon Gypsy

Size: 147

Camber Option: Rock Out Camber. It’s Salomon’s version of camber reinvented. Flat between the feet with camber under to give pressure and stability.

Bindings: Salomon absolute Pures

Stance: 21 Inches Wide 15 Negative 15 Regular

Boots: Salomon Kianna size 6

My Weight: 148lbs

Resort: Breckenridge

Conditions: Bluebird skies and fresh crisp groomers for mobbing around.

Flex: Softer than middle of the road but stiffer than a jib stick. That right amount of play to performance you would expect from a board like this.

Stability: This board has enough stability to charge around the mountain and not feel like you’re going to get bucked.

Ollies: The camber profile on this allows you to quickly load up and boost. Don’t fear getting over that obstacle in front of you.

Pop On Jumps: The more energy you put in the more spring you get out! Yes that’s right it’s a ladies deck you can jump on.

Butterability: The tips have a fair amount of play in them so getting your weight over the board and spinning around comes easy.

2014 Salomon Gypsy Base

Jibbing: You get the play in the tips which locks into presses easier and the familiarity of camber between the feet so board slides don’t feel like they’re going to wash out. You can jib this board with ease and not have to worry.

Carving: Since it is a bit flexier, this isn’t the board I’d take down the boarder cross course or try to straight line a steep face. The camber allows for better stability than a full reverse at higher speeds but the flex pattern really lets you lean into a turn and drop those knuckles to the ground.

Rider in Mind: The more freestyle rider who loves park but wants to go everywhere in a day. Park? Sure! Trees? Bring it on. Jumps? How high? This deck will play as hard as you do.

Personal Thoughts: I love it! It fits my riding style perfectly but is also versatile enough for others whom want to jib exclusively or cruise around and work on their goggle tan.

    Hi!

I am looking for a board for my girlsfriend and found a unused solomon gypsy from 2012 for a really good price.
Do you have any idea if the tech has changed a lot since then?
Does 2 years mean anything for the lifespan of the board?

Thanks you for an excellent website!

I am male lightweight (135lbs) and small feet (25cm-size 7) intermediate. I’ve realized that I need a very narrow waist and want fast turn initiation and edge to edge. Short of full custom, women’s boards are the only option. Any suggestions for narrow waist board in 148-150 range for all mountain East coast? When I talked with a custom builder, he suggested 23.3 waist. The nearest I’ve seen in that length range is 23.5.
