2014 Ride OMG Snowboard Used and Reviewed

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On August 11, 2013

Alright ladies it’s back for another year! The 2014 Ride OMG the freestyle board that handles like an all mountain stick. Zara took this snowboard for a spin around Breckenridge for a few days and had some things to say about it.

2014 Ride OMG Topsheet

Board: Ride OMG

Size: 147

Camber Option: Hybrid Twin. Micro camber under foot and micro rocker in the tips.

Bindings: Salomon Absolute Pure

Stance: 21 Inches Wide 15 Negative 15 Regular

Boots: Salomon Kianna Size 6

My Weight: 148

Resort: Breckenridge

Conditions: Sunny skies with fresh corduroy. Perfect conditions for testing a board.

Flex: For a twin park board it’s actually stiffer than a mid flex. This makes you have to work a bit harder to get the most out of it.

Stability: The board you can count on at fast speeds or landing a jump and not washing out. It really is a stable ride.

Ollies: The Hybrid Twin camber really adds a lot of snap to this board. It’s just so poppy.

Pop On Jumps: It is just awesome. It pops on command with a stable and trustworthy landing.

Butterability: Although a stiffer more aggressive ladies board, if you have the legs for it the flex pattern will allow to play around and tweak it all over the snow. As mentioned you have to work for it not twerk for it.

Jibbing: Same notion as when buttering. Tt takes a bit of muscle, HOWEVER this deck is stable and reliable on a variety of features due to its shape and flex patterns. Completely disregarding the razor sharp edges of this fresh deck, I took on Park Lane with excitement!

Carving: Excellent. Even as a ‘park board’ its stiff flex and side cut keep total stability even at maximum speeds. There will be no washing out or doubt as you charge down any slope.

Rider in Mind: The all around aggressive go getter chick. Someone who wants to start at the summit of the mountain, charge the trees, and then get playful in the parks jumps and jibs alike.

Personal Thoughts: This deck is the third generation of OMG that I have ridden. This deck has better pop to go with the stiff flex than last years deck making it more fun in the park as well as responsive in the trees. Even as this board is one of my all time favorites of the past few years, the 2014 OMG got me more excited on all the different riding available on the mountain.

Hello, please help me with a pressing issue, as you tested the board and can give me the best feedback.

I can see that the rider weight is 148lbs and is riding a 147 board. It sounds good for me, however, Ride (website) reccomends longer boards on a certain weight than the usual sizes. e.g. on a board of 140cm, they recomend an weight between 60-100.

My question is, for 100lbs, which board (Ride OMG) should I pick, 140, 144 or 147. I asume you will say 144. However, if 144 is not available, for a more freestyle rider, should I go to 140 or is it to small for this weight?

    Thanks!

140 for more of a jibbing and buttering and 144 for more all around riding.

Paul, you are aware this is a woman’s board, right? Not that there’s anything wrong with genderbending on the slopes as long as no one gets hurt…

It is a gift for my girl.
In the shop they only have 140 or 147, so my question is which from the two sizes to chose? She is freestyle oriented, however, she spends a lot of time doing all mounting freestyle, not only park. Weight 110lbs, The boot size is 7.

PS: I have the option to buy 144 on the 2015 model, hoever, I can get last year model at a 150 dollars discount. Should I choose on of the 2014 available (140 or 147, and if so, which one?) or should I forget about the discount and get 144?

    Thanks

Suck it up and take that $150 hit. She’ll do better with the 144.

Hi! Thanks for the review! I just tried this board and liked how it was agressive and fun to carve. It almost felt like my freeride board but as a twin. I’m débating between a capita bird of feather 148 and a ride omg 147. Which is more fun to ollie and ride fast, carve, with? unfortunatly i can’t try the capita.

Hi! Thanks for your review. How did you rind the OMG to ollie? Is it easy? I am debating between the ride OMG and capita bird of feather. I have demo-ed the OMG but unfortunatly only for 1 run so wasn’t enought time to test the board. I did like how it turned and hold at high speed. Thanks for your input!
