We have had a lot of girls suggest the Minx to us as one of those boards that we needed to review. Niche was awesome enough to lend us this snowboard for Zara to put through its paces. Here’s what she had to say about it.
Board: Niche Minx
Camber Option: Flat to rock. Your standard three stage rocker with flat between the feet and rocker in the tips.
Bindings: Salomon Absolute Pure
Stance: 21 inches wide 15 negative 15 regular
Boots: Salomon Kianna size 6
My Weight: 148
Resort: Arapahoe Basin
Conditions: Do the mash potato. That oh so awesome heavy mashed potato snow that just mounds up and makes those fun ollie bumps.
Flex: Slightly softer than a middle of the road park flex which made it playful.
Stability: With the snow being bumped out and super mashed potato snow this board was surprisingly stable through all that crud. I never felt like I was going to get bucked around.
Ollies: This board has some pop which made it so much fun.
Pop On Jumps: Even more so. Pops well with little effort needed.
Butterability: That flat rocker really made it easy to get up on the tips and play around.
Jibbing: Really fun the flex and camber profile allowed it to lock into presses and the softer flex just made it ever so effortless.
Carving: Not bad. For a board on the softer side, it didn’t give off the ripple effect the way some do on a steep down slope when you really engage a carve. The edge to edge transition was smooth and effortless.
Rider in Mind: This deck was made for the girl who wants to have pop, who wants to jib, and wants to play in the park. The flex and flat nature allow decent contact to features while still keeping speed for lead ups and pops.
Personal Thoughts: I was pleasantly surprised. I hadn’t really heard anything about Niche boards and had to tip my hat to this deck. Although this board is clearly not made for steeps and speed, it still held up and didn’t become squirrelly at all.
