2013 Nitro T1 Used and Reviewed

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On May 14, 2012

The T1 isn’t a board for everyone and by that I mean it’s built for bigger park features and high speed trickery. I have a long standing love/hate relationship with this board. At least this current incarnation of it has finally moved more towards where I believe it should be.

Board: Nitro T1

Size: 156

Camber Option: Zero Camber

Bindings: Raiden Phantom

Stance: 22.5 Wide 18 Negative 15 Goofy

Boots: K2 UFO Size 10

My Weight: 165

Resort: Breckenridge

Conditions: Sunny blue skies with slushy ice chunks and push mounds of death.

Flex: This board is designed to being a big feature riders deck. This makes the flex stiffer than the middle of the road for a park deck. There is a little bit of give in the tips but not much compared to the flex between the bindings.

Stability: There’s no question about the stability of this board at all. Any kind of variation in the snow that might buck a lesser board it absorbs and keeps on going.

Ollies: Load the tips up and pop this is what the board excels at.

Pop On Jumps: Small, Medium, and Large jumps are not going to be a problem with this board. There’s more than an ample amount of pop to get the job done.

Butterability: You have to work it a bit more than other decks but you can do it, just be prepared to not be lazy.

Jibbing: The sweet spot in the tips is minimal compared to other decks but if you can lock it into that area you’re going to be pleased.

Carving: You can rail hard turns on this board without any issues as well as short radius set up turns. The sidecut is enough that when you’re locked in you’re set and when you want to be lazy you don’t have to sweat it.

Rider in Mind: The big park feature guy that’s going to send it on booters of death and jibs of doom.

Personal Thoughts: It’s softer than its previous incarnations but in my opinion it still a bit much for the average rider unless you downsize and are a bit over the weight limit. It’s definitely not a board for someone that’s lazy and not ready to push it to the next level.

I’m 6’2″ 175lbs boot size 11.5 would I be disappointed if I replaced my 2011 Rook 154cm with a 2013 T1 156W? I feel like my Rook became too soft after I broke it in and it’s a bit small for my preference (it was fine until I gained like 10-15lbs). I like my 2012 Nitro TG 159W more than my Rook, but I also like having a shorter, flat camber park deck around. Any input/advice?

I’m not a T1 fan by any means but sounds like you want something a hair stiffer so go for it.

    Hi Angry,
Which deck between the rook or t1 is a tad stiffer and handles speed better. From your review the t1 – but other reviews around say the t1 is softer than the rook? maybe their mistake?

    Hi,
Did you give the T1.5 standard camber a try? I’m trying to make an educated choice between the cambered T1.5 and Team Series as my only board for this season. I’m moving on from reverse camber and I’m looking for a solid cambered board to charge on all terains (except urban). Any tips on the two models would be highly appreciated, even in reference to last year’s line.
    Thanks and stay Angry!

T1.5 is going to be more freestyle oriented than the Team and have a different flex pattern.

I got the t1 this year. I like it. its not to soft and not to stiff, jibbing is excellent and the board is very durable.

Hi, I started with camber but switched to RC (Skate Banana) and worked my way to Hybrids (TRS and NS Proto CT) in search of more stable boards. I would like to ride camber again as I feel more confident. My focus is shifting from just carving and occasional park and playfull riding more towards fast runs, park and bigger jumps here in BC Cananda. Nitro now has a lowrider camber which is a mellower version of camber and T1.5 is getting good reviews as a park board. I know it’s a beefed up version of T1 but do you think it will be too stiff? Also which size would be a better fit for 5’9″ 165lb dude, 153 or 156? I have not been on camber for nearly 6 years and my fear is it would be too big of a change for me. Thanks in advance

The size is going to come down on what you want to focus more on. Speed, stability, and over all stiffer board control then go 156. Playfulness, jib ability, and easier board control go 153. It’s going to come down to a few variables if you think it’s too stiff but judging by the fact you’re coming off TRS’s and Proto CT’s you might be shifting towards a stiffer board so you may like it. It will be stiffer than those two decks though.

    hi Angry’
i’m currently riding this T1(vs 2014)/2nd season with it, however i m fighting to get those butter-tricks, as the board is zero-camber and the flex is about medium. i’m feeling the board quite stiff(at least for my experience). i managed to do some 180s(front-side/backside), and nose/tails switches/presses, but i don’t feel it wanting to “rise” in the air… i m currently looking to bataleon disaster(2014 vs) as i found one on ~ 200$(used for 5 days). What’s your opinion for this one?
I m focused more on the slope, so i’m not doing big rails/jumps but more slopes-obstacles and small park-jumps.
    thanks dud’

The new T1 has a mellow camber profile rather than the zero camber, can you ride a review on that one?
