Sometimes even the simplest things can have a bigger impact on what you’re doing. This is where the LT Pin system from Spark R & D comes in. Gary our resident backcountry enthusiast couldn’t stop talking about the difference these little pieces of equipment made. Here’s his full review.
Product: Spark R&D LT Pin System
Purpose: It’s a lighter, stronger, and smoother touring bracket to be used in place of the Voile bracket on your splitboard.
Fit: You just remove the Voile touring brackets and use the screws to install the Spark model. You have to use the touring pins that come with it. They only work with Spark bindings. You have to choose your model of splitbinding you have. Fuse or Blaze/Burner. If you use the regular touring pins, they will shred the bracket. Don’t do it.
Features: It’s slightly lighter than the Voile bracket.
Conditions: Powder, hard pack, corn.
Pros: It’s a smooth, tight interface with the touring pin.
Cons: Price is the only bummer. Don’t let it bum you out.
Durability: These things are bomber. As long as you keep the screws tight, they should last for years.
Personal Thoughts: I was skeptical about these. $79 for a touring bracket? They are not going to make that big of a difference to make it worth that amount of money for a such a small accessory. Wrong. Dead wrong. The LT brackets make the touring interface much more rock solid. They also run smoother with less effort. Steep side hill traverse are easier and more solid with the LT Brackets. All of those who ride splits know that spend most of your time skinning. These made the amount of effort you have to put in just a little bit less with each stride. Which added up to a whole lot of energy saved over a long day. So much so that I now own a set.
What They Say: Seeking an alternative touring bracket that is stiffer, lighter, and more durable than your current set up? Are you experiencing excessive pin wear due to rough edges and misshapen brackets? The new LT Pin System is finally here!!
