2010 Trends

By Angrysnowboarder @angrysnowboard · On August 25, 2009

There’s a certain cycle of life that all things follow. There’s the obvious grand scheme of birth, life, and ultimately death. Then there’s the cycle of life in the snowboarding culture. One that is created from a rebirth of technology and fed on by some of the greatest marketing known to man. Yes that’s right 2010 will be the year of everything old coming back for another visit.

So in the past few seasons we’ve had hipsters, gypsies, snomies, scary art people, and all those various characters. Well 2010 is going to be the year that everything returns back to being metal. Don’t believe me, look at LNP and don’t tell me there isn’t a striking resemblance to Scott Ian from Anthrax.

In the wonderful world of bindings Burton and Technine are bringing back The Wing. Oh yeah get your press on or rail through a turn. Is it really going to make a difference?

So in the past few seasons we’ve had a resurgence of vintage eye wear. First it was Rome with the I Shreds, then Oakley brought back the Frogskin, and now Airblaster has given us that nostalgic piece of history with Glacier Glasses!

As you can tell snowboarding culture is continuing with the what’s old is new again. Perhaps someone will take it one step further and start rocking a MP3 player encased inside a Walkman for pure vintage nostalgia. While we’re at it maybe chicks will go for the vintage Madonna look with lots of lace and gold. Who knows what’s next? Also which recently dead celebrity will get something honoring them?

Bataleon releasing their Badaleon board honoring Michael Jackson. Someone is going to have to figure out how to do a moonwalk on a box in the park.

Moonwalk is just a MJ to 90 degree turn and slide on the edge. I'm working on it.

oddity… you said you saw them in a shop.. im guessing you dont know wat they feel like then, and really have no reason to say they "feel terrible".. really they help for support.. wen youre locked in a press it provides a good feel and support.. atleast i think so. but recently i have switched the front highback to the back and back to front so the wings are inside.. there is tons of scoop in the wings, and wow… they actually help press.. i can press my board with out being strapped in.. they may not be for everyone, but i would give em a shot before totally throwing them out of the question.

ps.. the wings on the inside are rails only for me… super hard to tweak grabs with them like that.

Man another Michael Jackson inspired product, while all this summer i was waiting for Billy Mays to get his own snowboard board, or at least an outwear set.

speaking of trends, just about 1 hour ago I went to the local shop to hopefully find a snowboard jacket.
    Not 1 Black snowboard Jacket!

Everything was either, Neon Green with baby blue strips on it, Pink with black, or some crazy ass pattern.

Gone are the days of plain old Black.
I’ll just keep using my stinky, black snowboard jacket from 1998. Holy crap that’s old.

P.S. By the way, why Black specifically? cuz it’s nice and boring and never goes out of style!

Arnie check out L1 Outerwear you might be stoked on some of their stuff. Lots of blacks and earth tones, their new site isn’t up yet but if you google L1 2010 catalog you should find it in the top 3 or 4 links.

so i met these kids while jibbing a week or so ago. they asked me what brand of coat i have.
i own a special blend jacket. they looked at me like i turned into that monster thing from willow.

they said they’d never heard of that brand and that it must be a new brand. is it just me, or am i now too old to sport that brand?

i know this is off topic. but WOW, there is so much outerwear out there nowadays it makes my head spin.
