2010 Never Summer Summit R

Right now there’s two with the swallow tail in the world. Mine is number two and Dennis Nazari the owner of Salty Peaks snowboard shop in Salt Lake City has the other. Yesterday was the perfect day to test this pow rocket out and I’m glad that I took full advantage of it.

Board: Never Summer Summit R
Size: 167
Bindings: K2 Formulas
Stance: 22.5
Angles: 18 negative 15
Boots: K2 T1 DB 2010
My Weight: 168
Resort: Arapahoe Basin
Conditions: Blue Skies and Fresh Pow that turned into heavy pow
Mindset: Pow Turns
Tunes: Iron Savior

Preconceived Notions: Looking at the swallow tail I had to question if it was fully functional I know that R.C. technology is amazing in powder so adding taper to it this thing has to slay.

Flex: Softer in the nose stiffer under the back set of inserts and a medium flex between the feet. The R.C. tech does make it a bit more playful than my regular summit.

Stability: Little unstable charging hard packed terrain that was rutted out but other than that it was perfectly fine. I did drop some 10 to 20 foot cornices and rocks and it was awesome how you’d land in the backseat and pop right back up.

Ollies/Pop: The swallow tail makes initiation for pop a bit too soft it needs to be stiffened up a bit. But the R.C. technology does make popping in pow a bit easier.

Butterability: I didn’t butter it.

Cruising: The Vario Power grip on hard packed gripped really well or when doing a packed traverse. The super tapered shape lets you roll into turns in the pow and the R.C. brings the nose up even quicker.

Jibbing: I didn’t jib it except off some rocks.

Rider in Mind: The guy that wants a pow slayer

Personal Thoughts: The swallow tail won’t be put into production it will just keep the standard summit shape. Taking everything that was great about the traditional cambered Summit and make it better. This board will be getting a lot of late season pow play from me when I get back from NY.
