100 Days of Product Reviews

With everyone getting their stoke high for the next seasons gear it’s become inevitable that product reviews will be rolling out soon. Product reviews have always made up a third of this sites content and generally have become a viable tool for those doing market research for their next purchase. For 2012 things are going to be a bit different with how the reviews are done.

For the last few years reviews have typically been posted on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sundays for the gear that was ridden after SIA. Most of the time the gear that was ridden was at demo days in less than ideal conditions or in a rushed manner. This has always bothered me personally as I felt that there were decks that needed certain conditions or more time to properly review them, sometimes this lack of conditions or time caused them to fall by the way side and not have a review written for the site.

Enter the official 100 Reviews in 100 Days Campaign. In an industry where the biggest test for boards is based on one run through a spring park by semi-pro riders I hope to shake things up. The goal of this is to provide a comprehensive outlet for published product reviews over 100 days straight.

During SIA and the days after I have been continuously emailing all companies large and small just informing them of what’s going on and trying to get more product for this. Some have responded while others haven’t but the doors open for any company anywhere to be a part of this. The only real cost to them is shipping back and forth plus the time the product is in my possession.

The reviews themselves will be slightly tweaked from the templates you’ve seen and I’m proud to offer splitboard reviews and backcountry accessories thanks to the assistance of Gary Apostolou. We’ll also be delving more into outerwear and other accessories as well. Over all though I just want you to be aware that product reviews will be starting April 1st and running for 100 days straight as this review series continues possibly longer.

How is 100 reviews in 100 days not rushing things like you complain about?

REAL reviews are like the mountain bike tests, over days, in the “right’ conditions.

I saw your Buloco.com, stay angry dude.

  6. Well Dicky I know the concept of doing 100 reviews over 100 days straight eludes you so I’ll break it down. I’m already riding the decks, bindings, and other gear for the reviews. I’ll then have a solid majority stockpiled and scheduled to go come April 1st where for 100 days straight there will be a review posted on the site every 24 hours. I know hard concept to grasp but it sure beats going to an on snow demo where conditions suck and riding 10 boards in 6 hours and writing reviews on it like some other people.

Bahaha. This ain’t no mountain bike blog… “REAL” snowboard reviews are conducted on a variety of terrain in a number of conditions. In case you didn’t realize, mountain weather varies daily and the “right” conditions can be hard to come by… in fact, I would venture to say there is no such thing: It’s funny really, you can be stuck in a stormy powder day with a park board, or a cold front can turn everything to sheet ice overnight, or the sun can make everything insanely slushy… it’s more about how a board performs in a range of conditions versus the “right” ones, which is what Avran is trying to do with the 100 reviews in 100 days initiative. It’s not about testing a new product and posting it up, but gathering 100 products to test over time and come April start publishing one review each day.

Get off your high horse… Dick.
